It’s a brazen approach, anyway.  If you’re going to go with the Shaggy Defense, you’d better either be telling the truth or be absolutely sure you’ve covered your tracks.  It sounds like Michigan has text message logs, so unless this is a really elaborate dark op, it seems that Day is really going out on a limb here, and Michigan’s got the saw.

It’s also weird because OSU is the team with the best motive to provide Purdue with the signs — they thought a Michigan loss would help them get into the CFP.  If it were somebody else — say, Staee — it’d just be because their entire school mantra is “a Michigan loss is better than a MSU victory.”

If he’s lying — and I know we’re all assuming that, but I’m trying to give him the benefit of the doubt because it seems lying would be extremely stupid — he’s not only going to look like a giant hypocrite, he may work his way out of a job.  Being caught in a lie wouldn’t be as embarrassing as losing to Michigan by an average of 18.5 points per game the last two years, but it might end up being the straw that breaks the camel’s back, particularly if Michigan gets its third in a row as we all expect.

Sidebar: Around 2001 or 2002 there was an awesome Wonder Woman rap/re-mix that I thought was done by Shaggy, but haven't been able to find it since.  Anyone know what I'm talking about?

As far as Day goes I agree that it seems like an unforced error unless he's 100% sure.  Here's my tinfoil hat conspiracy theory:  OSU wants to bring Urban Meyer back and they're setting Day up.  They fire Day for this and say that Michigan should do the same with Harbaugh.  There is no "known" connection between Day and the PI firm because it is the Ohio State [deep state] working for Urban.

If you haven't looked at the rules and think Ryan Day is telling the truth, the optics on the CS stuff is bad.  From OSU's perspective (not mine):

1. Sign stealing is cheating.  If someone steals signs they win the game. Michigan stole two National Championships from OSU with this cheating. (Never mind that OSU still got in last year and lost.  Had they played TCU they would have easily won it all.) There are photos of CS talking to Jim Harbaugh holding a laminated sheet of opposing teams' signs.   Clear undeniable evidence of sign stealing.

2. Michigan organized a vast network of known friends and trusted agents to steal signs illegally scouting in person which, in their minds, is on top of the crime of sign stealing.   There are venmo receipts and other schools have verified the purchases.  This is undeniable proof from multiple sources of sign stealing and in-person scouting.  Michigan is caught dead to rights.

3. Harbaugh is a control freak and knows every detail of everything going on at Michigan and there is no way he doesn't know about this.   The CMU pics are evidence that Harbaugh asked Jim M to let CS spy in person. Undeniable photographic evidence.

4.  Michigan thinks they are morally superior (we are.)  OSU hates us for that.  They've had to fire Woody Hayes for hitting  a player(what about Juwan?), Tressel for tattoos(who wrote two books on ethics) and Urban Meyer of Zach Smith (who they brought back to teach a class on ethics even though they fired him themselves for ethics violations.)   If OSU has to fire coaches for small things which are totally unrelated to the actual game of football, then Michigan should have to fire Harbaugh for cheating at football. (See #1)

5.  Michigan is totally unrepentant and thinks they're smart with all of their reading and lawyerin'.

6. Ohio State would never steal signs even though they have someone on staff to steal signs.

7. OSU would never share signs with another team and Ryan Day said so. Michigan is engaging in fake whataboutism. There should be additional penalties for that.

______________

If the tables were reversed I'd be filled with the same righteous indignation.  It looks really bad if you ignore that:

A. Sign stealing is legal.

B. Everyone does it.

C. Connor Stalions is an insane workaholic with a 600 page manifesto and Harbaugh didn't actually know.

_______________

With Tressel's scandal he got busted for lying about it.  Had he admitted it and punished his players immediately he would have been fine. The funny thing about that scandal is that supposedly, everyone pays their superstar players in elaborate untraceable ways. Terrell Pryor totally got paid to go to OSU over Michigan and it never came out. He got busted for something insignificant, but it looked bad. The important thing is the image of propriety and not propriety itself and so it became an issue. That's where we're in trouble.  For the 99.9% of people who don't read the rules it looks like Michigan is cheating.

I'm glad we're fighting back.

Ryan Day probably did not PERSONALLY do that, I can believe that. But someone who worked for him for sure did. And I'm guessing Michigan has a cell phone number at a minimum, and probably a name to go with it.
