When it comes to apparel, money should be the determining factor. Not the only factor, but if they money isn't close to equal, I would hope the AD takes the most lucrative deal.
We all want things that cost lots of money (like Jim Harbaigh, hello). In order to have those things that cost lots of money, we need lots of money. And since everyone bitches about ticket prices and PSDs, why not let Adidas fund that stuff for us?

I agree money should be the deciding factor between Adidas and Nike but I'd definitely want the AD to do some due diligance on UA's shoes and make sure they could provide competitive equiptment in sports like hockey where their size disadvantage really shows.

This is the second best rumor I've heard all week.

I tweeted this joker twice asking for a link or a source and got nothing.
If Michigan does go in a different direction, hopefully they announce it in a year in advance so I make sure not to buy any adidas-made gear unless it's championship gear.
Sigh. Pretty much everything I own that doesn't have a block M on it is adidas. Shirts, shorts, socks, boxers, shoes. That would have to change. The Michigan stuff would just be put aside for the new Nike Michigan gear similar to how I did it back in 2008.

Serious question: why do you care so much? The regular polos, hoodies, and what not are not really that different than nike. I was a student right in the middle of the adidas switch and worked for the athletic department. I got a ton of free gear, much of it I still wear today. When I hear "Adults" (quotes because I guess I'm one now) say how they refuse to purchase a brand that's basically the same as the one they uphold, I laugh.
Really, it's fine stuff. I don't know what the big deal is. The only thing I've really disliked about adidas is the football uniforms tearing apart, which seemed to be a fixed issues, and the cookie cutter basketball tournament uniforms.
However, let's not kid ourselves: We told adidas to do the alternate uniforms and had we been Nike at the time, there still would have been clowniforms. That's on us telling our provider what to do and putting the appropriate restrictions on them.

Because it matters to us.
December 24th, 2014 at 1:54 PM ^
With that said, I do have a few Adidas items and I like the stuff I have, just prefer Nike. However, I do have to admit that UA makes a few items that I really like too, but across the board, Nike has the most products I like. Nike also tends to have a larger selection, so I can always find something I like.
...and lastly, we had Nike when I was at UM and we won a NC, so there is that sentimental aspect too.

Your post makes sense. We all have preferences. But to say that you won't order any apparel for years just because it's Adidas instead of Nike is outrageous and silly.

Does this imply UM is breaking it's current contract? Or just as soon as the Adidididisis contract is up, Nike is looking to be UM's apparel supplier? Because if it's the latter, then, duh. I mean I bet UA would also take a shot to be the supplier if offered.

I think he is implying the next contract deal will be Nike. Remember, Martin signed the adidas deal a year in advance of it actually happening.
There is not two more years left with adidas. It expires after the 2015-16 athletic season, which is next year (2016).

This new year is turning out to be TOO MUCH already... And Marvel is likely getting Spider-Man back from Sony to incorporate him into their Marvel Cinematic Universe!! Ahhhhhhh!!
... Unrelated I know but still!

i can say with 100% certainty that the previous regime intended to switch back to nike even though it was less money for them. it was an open secret.

I used to like Adidas, but ever since M switched to them it's been 90% misery and lots of terrible products, therefore, I associate them with crap and terribleness. Give me Nike or UA every single time!

Adidas sucks balls. The zubaz uniforms they made teams in the tournament wear a few years ago was an attack on society.

IT'S HAPPENING!!!!
December 24th, 2014 at 1:18 PM ^
The contract doesn't end until after the 15-16 school year but they renegotiate it much earlier to ensure enough lead time for production. The adidas deal did not begin until 2008 but it was agreed upon in late 2006.

That is great news. It'll be nice getting our Maize back instead of that fluorescent yellow.

That Nike swish on the Michigan unis was badass.
December 24th, 2014 at 1:35 PM ^
not really. But after the craptacular stuff Adidas has put us in, dealing with the swoosh on the jerseys is a small price to pay.

What the hell is "bad ass" about having a giant corporate logo on the front of your uniform?
What was actually "bad ass" was when our uniforms didn't have any giant corporate logos on them at all, but that kind of thing doesn't happen these days because of branding.

If we get Harbaugh AND we get Nike back???
oohh my.... God.... *faints*
December 24th, 2014 at 1:33 PM ^
You think Nike would possibly come calling early if/when Jimbo is formally introduced? JH hire will make massive waves and I know Nike would want to tie its cart to this horse until it can't pull anymore. Perhaps offering a buyout of Adidas' remaining contract if Nike wants us bad enough

Like that negative shit Harbaugh said about Michigan when he was at Stanford?

How about all that negative shit Harbaugh said about Michigan's academics? Are you still pissed about that?
