Grew up in Washington state…

Grew up in Washington state and am back here now. Lifelong Seahawks fan. Excited for the new staff. The Lions and the Dolphins are my out of state teams.

As a Hawks fan I endorse this. Also as a Hawks fan it is my job to point out that John Schneider loves trading his first round picks for a haul of late picks. Maybe that was a Pete Carroll thing though, so this draft will certainly tell us some interesting things about the new direction of the organization.

It's great to be a Michigan Wolverine!

Correct reversal.

Correct reversal.

How does it work? This has been a very educational night for us non-lawyers so far.

I know nothing about how…

I know nothing about how this kind of thing works. Would the judge being a UM alum and lecturer require his recusal? If he doesn't recuse himself and makes a ruling in UM's favor, is this something that would affect an appeal or the legal fight in any way?

Lol. You're supposed to set…

Lol. You're supposed to set the line so the under is at least plausible.

Gotta hand it to em. That was a ballsy but smart play at the end.

I've got an XL big green egg for large and/or long cooks or when we're entertaining. We use the Weber propane grill for hot dogs, burgers, and just family dinners. The wife and I have been thinking about getting a pizza oven and building an island out on the patio for all the various implements.

Hell yeah! 2 in a row. Let's fucking go!

Easy there Lennie.

Even with the SEC bias it's…

Even with the SEC bias it's a tough sell to put a 2 loss LSU in over any undefeated or 1 loss conference champions (especially if one of them is USC). In that case LSU likely ends up being just like the 2016 Penn State team that won the conference but had to "settle" for the Rose Bowl.

Georgia is not dropping past…

Georgia is not dropping past 3 even if they lose the SEC title game. Every other 1 loss team has significantly worse resume. Same is probably true with Michigan. At this point M and UGA are both all but guaranteed spots even if they lose their respective title games. That would be absolute chaos then for the other 2 spots. TCU wins out and they're in. Number 4 comes down to a bunch of people yelling about whose one or two losses look the best. Barring some crazy conference title game shenanigans; USC with a one or two loss PAC 12 title, LSU with a two loss SEC title, and OSU (ugh) would probably have the best cases.

Image link works now. 3-4 of those 6 losses look pretty forgivable given the competition.

Turner's shield get dropped when he missed the pick 6 or something?

Nature just published a…

Nature just published a paper this week highlighting the extreme inequality among hiring and retention of academic faculty. Long story short, almost all faculty in the US are doctorally trained by a group of schools that comprise only 20% of all universities in the United States. Further, approximately 1/8 of all faculty come from five schools, Michigan being one of them. These statistics mostly hold true even when evaluating fields of study individually. So it is pretty safe to say a Michigan degree, regardless of field, is pretty damn prestigious.

Link for those interested. Figure 2 is your money shot.

Bummer, I was really hoping…

Bummer, I was really hoping he would take a victory lap at next year's Wimbledon and get the proper sendoff he deserves. Amazing career. As a Nadal fan, he always annoyed/frustrated me but I've gotta say the way he played, the shots he was capable of making, and the touch he had was so beautiful to watch. He was so dominant in his prime. I truly think if courts hadn't been slowed down significantly throughout the years that Nadal and Djokovic would not have passed his GS records.

Now just imagine it was…

Now just imagine it was called correctly. I was never salty about the loss but that boiled my blood. They took what was quite possibly the best defensive play of the entire tournament away from a guy during one of the best games of the year. Garbage.

Fucking lol. I used to say…

Fucking lol. I used to say this every time I got smoked at H-O-R-S-E in elementary school. I'm still technically undefeated.

They did just dismantle the…

They did just dismantle the last undefeated Power 5 team on the biggest stage possible. However, any normal week and Michigan would simply slide up to #1 after this performance and the UGA loss.

Iowa: We have the #1 special…

Iowa: We have the #1 special teams

Michigan: And I took that personal.

Michigan may end up number 1…

Michigan may end up number 1, but they would just drop UGA to 4 then. At this point the seeding doesn't really matter. They are not going to set up a semifinal rematch of a game everyone just saw. There's nothing to be done about it.

Iowa's offense so far better…

Iowa's offense so far better than the special teams. Whoda thunk it?

I will never understand NBA…

I will never understand NBA draft talent evaluation. Houstan moved DOWN to 14 and somehow Diabate just appeared as a potential 2rd rounder. Even before their college debuts and performance so far I would have assumed those spots would be reversed.

Man I remember your…

Man I remember your infectious optimism from before and during this year even during hard times. You claimed this season would be great and that it will be a prelude to many more. You're correct so far and I just want to say I'm so glad that there are people like you to counter brutal glass half-empties like myself. You smile as much as you want for as long as you want. Eventually it starts to help people like me.

Gonna disagree here. There…

Gonna disagree here. There is a degree of subjectivity in UFR. There will be pretty notable differences in scoring between two people and I think even Seth commented on it once or twice. For comparisons sake and uniformity it should be done by Seth since he's done them all this year. Brian can still give his special type of prose and 1,000 foot view on Monday.

Ohio State so we can beat…

Ohio State so we can beat their ass again.

I really wish I still had…

I really wish I still had the capacity for this kind of optimism. I want nothing but good things for you and hope you end up being correct.

Just get a pair of white Adidas Stan Smith's. Go with everything and will not go out of style. Keep em clean using some Jason Markk's repellent.

What kinda witchcraft does this UCLA team have to force the other teams to miss their free throws?

It is absolutely incredible…

It is absolutely incredible that Few has been able to turn that program into such a powerhouse that kids are willing to live in Spokane, Washington during their college years.

I grew up in Spokane, Washington so don't @ me.

Correct, coaching is…

Correct, coaching is performed on talent. They start with more talent and it gets better at a greater rate than Michigan. The gap that is already present based on recruiting only gets wider based on coaching. I'm glad we can agree.

You're going to push back on…

You're going to push back on the notion of a talent gap by pointing to OSU developing talent better (which they already get more of than Michigan) as a reason there... isn't a talent gap?

What metric could we…

What metric could we possibly use to try and prove there isn't a talent gap between Michigan and OSU in football? Unless we are taking the whole of their histories which is probably a bad idea since they still have more Heisman winners and claimed national titles, including a better overall winning percentage at this point. Just looking at the past 20 or so years it looks like this:

Recruiting rankings - gap

NFL draft picks - massive gap

On-field performance - historically massive gap.

That's why the statement that there is no talent gap is incorrect. I hate writing it just as much as any Michigan fan hates reading it, but let's not be delusional.

For real. If that's what it was supposed to look like he's got even more explaining to do.

That's on the coach to fill…

That's on the coach to fill a team of recruits willing to do that and is who is also supposed to motivate them. Let's be honest though, the culture of the program and probably the athletic department in general is what needs to change before Michigan finally get with the times and ever wins another conference championship let alone competes for the playoff.

Penn state is gonna be in a…

Penn state is gonna be in a much better position than Michigan when we both get new coaches. Our cupboard is straight up empty.

How do you foresee those…

How do you foresee those games going in this, Harbaugh’s 6th, season?

Do you feel the Michigan program is in a better place than either PSU or Wisconsin?

I think we’re arguing the…

I think we’re arguing the same thing in different ways. Michigan is already a second tier team. You change coaches to move up a tier not spin your wheels. If we change coaches we need to do so because we’re prepared to do what it takes to make that next step not because we want to ensure we beat Indiana and MSU, but still get mollywhopped by OSU, PSU, and Wiscy.

It doesn't matter. Until…

It doesn't matter. Until Michigan is willing to do what other perennial winners do to compete it's not gonna matter if they somehow magically get Bill Belichick. There's gonna be a lot of pearl clutching regarding this but it's just a foregone conclusion at this point.

The teams that consistently compete for titles gave up the pretense of focusing on the student portion of student-athlete a long time ago. Yes, that means putting together a vast network of bagmen and essentially making classwork all but optional. I'm not even making a value judgment on this. If you prefer your student-athletes to be focused on their education that's fine, but don't get up in arms when they can't beat an Ohio State squad that's built on the scaffolding of 5 star athletes at every position that can't tell you their class schedule but get pissed if they drop into the second round of the NFL draft. If instead you prefer to build that kind of program, don't then get upset because the student can't spell their last name or solve the most basic algebra problem for X. Firing Harbaugh for another coach, but being unwilling to move away from a greater focus on student education to athlete preparation for the NFL makes no sense whatsoever.
