Seriously that window sounds like a major overreaction to a positive test.  Should be 14 days at most and 10 sounds most reasonable.  I know we're trying to minimize outbreaks but 21 days is ridiculous.  I guarantee that rule is going to bite Michigan at some point this season.

I'm curious as to why we don't do this with other viruses. There is some evidence that certain flu outbreaks have about a 10% incidence of myocarditis though we have few studies since we don't test for it very often (or almost ever) after the flu. If it's so important to do it for Covid-19, shouldn't every single athlete who gets the flu be out an extended period of time to allow a full work-up? It's inconsistencies like these that drive a portion of our population insane. This isn't saying Covid-19 is like the flu in other terms, because clearly it is not. We do know, however, that it does cause temporary heart issues in a percentage of people.

The time frame is because they are worried about myocarditis. They want to make sure the players are carefully monitored. It's not to prevent the spread. It seems to me that was the compromise made between the schools that disagreed on whether to play this fall.

They can still monitor after 14 days, since if there is signs of Myocarditis then the player will need to be out for 3 months, essentially out of the season. The risk of Myocarditis is much lower with COVID than first thought, in fact any cold or flu can result in Myocarditis.

An average person gets 14 days isolation on d/c from me at the hospital but said person isn't having 200-300 lb bodies hitting them on a daily basis. We don't know what cardiac effects the virus may have that go un-noticed in clinically stable patients. Better safe than sorry.

The extra 7 days is for testing the player's health for return to play ... must take a battery of heart and lung tests over that extra time period.  If those tests go OK, then the player can return to practice.  But if those tests are not OK, then the player could be out more than 21 days.

I hope and anticipate he will be healthy and okay, regardless. Interestingly, 21 days from today is the Sunday after we play Wisconsin. Could the football gods be showing us mercy for the first time in over two decades?  Almost certainly not.

We already have different conferences who will end the season with different numbers of games played.

The answer is to get "style points" for blowouts.  Its one reason I wish we had kept our foot on the gas last night and hung 24 more points on them.

Its a short season and if you want to move up, you have to blow teams out.
