Freakbass was worse

This post is a remembrance of crappy UM history during the era of the worst AD in our history. I don’t think it is a bad thing to remember the atrocities of the past so we don’t repeat the same mistakes.
January 23rd, 2023 at 12:12 PM ^
It could have been (slightly) worse
January 23rd, 2023 at 12:48 PM ^
Ill never understand why in gods name either school thought these were good ideas. Both were awful
January 23rd, 2023 at 12:54 PM ^
I feel badly and will probably get negged to hell and back by saying I never minded that song.
It seemed to fit the majority of the RichRod and Hoke dark ages.
If I remember right, they used to play Muse' Uprising during team warmups in that era and I thought that was good also.
January 23rd, 2023 at 5:11 PM ^
I played both for my middle school students today. They loved the Michigan one and thought the ND one was cheesy. I'm in Indiana as well.
January 23rd, 2023 at 12:51 PM ^
I actually watch this once in a while for a good laugh. It is so bad that it is actually good.
January 23rd, 2023 at 1:07 PM ^
I think it was just bad. I had buried it somewhere and someone had to dig it out.
January 23rd, 2023 at 12:58 PM ^
exactly

FreakBass lol. Never gets old.

4 minutes of my life I will not get back. Was hoping to see Brian Kelly break out some smooth dance moves.

This time the OP did us a service by not embedding the link. And you sir should get what's coming to you.

I don't recognize the word "cringe" as properly part of the English language when used as an adjective.
January 23rd, 2023 at 12:52 PM ^
Ben Mathers would use that word. A lot.

Also, the Halo predates Brandon. It was the brainchild of Lee Bollinger, then president of UM, and some east coast architects who thought it would look from the Goodyear Blimp. They rammed it by our feckless AD, Tom Goss.
January 23rd, 2023 at 9:12 PM ^
Venturi, Scott, Brown! They were a pretty important firm* that had a winking interest in pop-culture. However, being architects they also didn't understand football culture at all and overestimated the fan base's interest in humorous self-reflection.

The halo, the halo, the halo.

This post sucks and you should feel bad
January 23rd, 2023 at 12:12 PM ^
Cant be worse than Mr. Brightside... great song/crappy football music
January 23rd, 2023 at 12:58 PM ^
I agreee, but it's at least better than Sweet Caroline.
January 23rd, 2023 at 1:51 PM ^
Not usually the ban words and songs/politically correct sort but not sure how anything with the following line was allowed at Penn State:
"Hands, touchin' hands
Reachin' out, touchin' me
Touchin' you."
If I'm a university that went through what PSU did, I'm looking for almost anything else to play at the stadium.
January 23rd, 2023 at 3:07 PM ^
Even more so when you learn that Sweet Caroline was partially inspired by seeing a picture of Caroline Kennedy as a child. (To be perfectly clear, there was a whole conflation of images in motifs that went into the song as with any other song, so I'm definitely not accusing Neil Diamond of being a pedo)
January 23rd, 2023 at 3:38 PM ^
I'm just kind of starting to assume that most of them are.
January 23rd, 2023 at 5:32 PM ^
Not taking the moral high ground since #BoKnew, but PSU's AD doubled down being tone deaf when athletes started sporting #409 hashtags.
Self awareness is not the strong suit of football factories apparently.

The stupid DJ guy
January 23rd, 2023 at 5:31 PM ^
Especially for a day game. The PSU game this year was really weird. Good thing there was good football to watch
January 23rd, 2023 at 9:23 PM ^
DJ Skee is the worst.
January 23rd, 2023 at 10:42 PM ^
DJ Skee is absolute dog shit. DJ Truth was great at the MSU game. But even Skee is nothing compared to how awful the MC they had this past season was. I'll take thirty DJ Skees over another year with that minor league baseball MC shit.
January 23rd, 2023 at 12:13 PM ^
Honestly, I don't think that would be terrible as a snippet playing as they show highlights before the break on tv.
It was really bad to play in the stadium, but it's not the worst marketing song.
January 23rd, 2023 at 12:15 PM ^
Went to the PSU game this year and that DJ they had was probably worse than the halo. Terrible idea and executed as poorly as possible.
January 23rd, 2023 at 1:36 PM ^
I’m with you. The whole DJ situation is weird. It seems awkward, forced, most of them aren’t great, and just overall very meh. Hopefully the players like it.
January 23rd, 2023 at 1:56 PM ^
The sound quality is also terrible. Absolutely zero bass. Bad in every way possible.
January 23rd, 2023 at 12:16 PM ^
Hail and Unite (replacing The Victors and then rebranding it -- after the backlash, as a pump up song) is the most cringe thing in Michigan history. Full stop.
January 23rd, 2023 at 7:54 PM ^
Wow, I did not know about this. It's like the intersection of Michigan arrogance and younger generations of students not knowing how to do the wave variations in correct order. Sheer audacity blended with incompetence.
Howeva, cringe can lead to the best lulz, so I tried mightily to find a video of this song. I could not. Maybe (hopefully) because it doesn't exist? Hopefully. Because they are doomed to fail. If you're going to make a pump-up song called "Hail and ____" then there is a 0% chance that you can top this:
January 23rd, 2023 at 10:54 PM ^
It was on this board for a while.
The tl;dr is the song never made it to fruition. Despite a very detailed business plan of crowdsourcing and soon to be celebrity endorsements. Weird huh?
It was just some b-school douchebag's class project.
He was subjected to immediate scorn/shame for even implying to get rid of The Victors for something else and instead of licking his wounds and regrouping, he doubled down on being a fucking moron about it all.
The Hail and Unite page is still up on the university servers and all the social media (twitter, IG, FB) are still up so you can see the emperor's new clothes of it all if you're bored out of your mind.

That 2014 Minnesota game and the immediate aftermath. The legacies Dave Brandon and Brady Hoke left at Michigan are pathetic and embarrassing...
January 23rd, 2023 at 1:07 PM ^
come on. brandon may have been related to satan but hoke left a semi-full cupboard for harbaugh and was generally loved by his players.
January 23rd, 2023 at 2:48 PM ^
His team's couldn't execute (loved it when the snap hit the guy in motion), and he looked like a Fred Flintstone buffoon out there most of the time. He had not clue one when Shane had the concussion. It was embarrassing having him represent Michigan as the head coach. He was a dolt...
January 23rd, 2023 at 4:59 PM ^
I'm always surprised that the Shane Morris issue is laid solely at Brady Hoke's feet. Obviously, he's the head guy, and that's where the buck eventually stops.
But I'd have thought that the QB coach (Nussmeier) should have been considered the primary culprit, as Shane was Nussmeier's main (only?) responsibility.
Moreover, I'm surprised that Shane's teammates didn't step in and keep Shane from returning to the game.
It really appears as if there were no adults in the room that day.
