In reality who could Michigan get to be a better HC?

Submitted by WeimyWoodson on December 29th, 2018 at 3:47 PM

I'm now onboard with the idea that Harbaugh is not the guy to get it done here, but who really could?  I feel like "eh this is kinda Michigan football, its not going to get better".  But really Michigan needs a coach who can come in here and revamp the offense.  No more of these FB dives, hand off to the running back to run up the gut for a year, slow tempo, delay of game when down like 30....

Not that Michigan would part ways but would would be a realistic coach to fix this mess because Saban and Dabo are not coming.

What talent? Offensively we lose: Higdon and replace him with Charbonnet. We lose JBB and he sucked.

Defendively we lose: Bush (tough to replace.) We also lose Gary who played like 7 total games all year; Winovich (tough to replace), Mone (did he even do anything this year?), and Kinnel (replaced by Dax). Teams floor next year is 10 wins. Ceiling is much more.

Almost like I was talking about 2016 OSU, 2015 MSU, and OSU - Maryland from this year. What happens if Maryland gets that two point conversion? For argument's sake we'll say that we still lose 62-39. You think we're losing to northwestern? Nope. So that's a big ten title and a rose bowl against a team worse than Florida. 12-2 season because of a literal inch

I'd gladly take Scotty Walden from Southern Miss over Harbaugh. The old guard would consider it a controversial move because he doesn't have the "experience" they're looking for, but it's better than being complacent with slightly-above-average coaches who believe they're coaching in the 1950s. Innovation > Tradition

I'm sick of people linking young, innovative coaching candidates with Rich Rod just because they share spread similarities. Just in case you didn't know, not all spread offenses are identical. Rich Rod's spread offense was run-oriented (heavy use of zone read). In fact, at West Virginia, he ran the ball almost 70% of the time. And when his QBs did actually throw the ball, they were generally inefficient - as they completed less than 58% of their passes, averaged about 7 yards per attempt, and had a paltry TD/INT ratio of 1.4. He leaned heavily towards the less efficient play (the run) and couldn't coach up his QBs to become great passers when they did throw. That's terrible considering so many people, at the time, believed he was a great offensive mind. Meanwhile, if you look at Walden's offenses, they've proven to be much more balanced (which is key characteristic of many championship-caliber teams). During his years as either an offensive coordinator or head coach, he's passed 47% of the time (as opposed to RR's 32%) while also getting a bunch of terrible QBs, RBs and WRs to play efficiently and break a bunch of school records. His QBs have completed almost 65% of their passes, averaged over 8.5 yards per attempt and had a TD/INT ratio of 2.5. Just imagine what he could do with Dylan McCaffrey, DPJ, Tarik and Nico.

Don't think we need a new HC.  Just need a good OC.  I would look at Dan Enos.  I have no clue what to do with defense.  I am not a fire this guy or fire that guy kind of person.  I just know if I was the HC I would sit down and say to myself "what didn't work and what do I need to do to fix it"?  From answering those questions you make some hard decisions.  That is what a good leader does.  You do for the greater good regardless if it means severing a long relationship (Drevno). There is definitely changes coming, you can bank on it. What they are? Who knows.

As I sit and watch the NCG semifinal, I'm reminded that ND fans (and I live in Indiana) wanted Brian Kelly run out of town also.  I'm not impressed with the results either, but let's cool our jets for a bit.  The last two games sucked, but 10-3 is something that both RR and Brady couldn't produce on a regular.   So ya, it could be worse, and no, not every Coach can sleep walk to 9-10 win seasons here.

No one. The job at UM is incredibly hard for a few reasons: 1) zero tolerance for violations - the admin was seriously miffed with just the taint if stretchgate, 2) academic standards - not like Stanford level but the unwillingness to take JCs and even a guy like Van Jefferson who hurt us today, 3) no thugs - no way would 2 UM guys would be involved in a questionable shooting and playing a few days later like LSU or have a player caught on campus with a loaded handgun with no missed time like Williams at Bama, 4) our football alums have an incredible voice in the AD and they want old school football.

It’s not mine or anyone on this board’s job to offer up better coaches. What most of us know is what Harbaugh is giving us does not meet expectations, unless your expectations are Iowa.

Give me, or anyone, the resources of the University of Michigan, and we will conduct a search and “get you names”

We have the worst fanbase in football hands down.

It is only the fourth time in program history that Michigan has had three 10 win seasons in four years. And you're all calling for the coaches head. Idiots.

These fucking idiots don’t seem to realize that we play more games now. Yes Hoke sucks. Yes RR sucks. Yes Harbaugh is better. Yes Harbaugh is going to get embarrassed any time he faces a legitimately good team.

Remember when Jim Tresel, newly hired as a “nobody” said “I can assure you that you will be proud of your young people in the classroom, in the community, and most especially in 310 days in Ann Arbor, Michigan.”  Flipped the rivalry in just one year and OSU has left us in the dust ever since.   To all the Harbaugh defenders...  Where’s Jim Harbaugh’s signature win?

Why all the love and devotion, other than he played for Bo, which is cool, but ancient history?

Listen I’m just as frustrated, I get the sentiment. the offense should be better.  I’m just saying that since Jim was hired people expected a meteoric rise like Alabama.  That doesn’t happen ever, Jim has kept the program in the discussion every year he’s routinely won double digit games it’s frustrating that the team can’t seem to get over the hump and plays disinterested in big games but it doesn’t help that a bunch of players sat out.  I look at the programs over the past 25 years or so which ascended to elite from the pack and the players love college football and representing there team, Miami in the 80’s and 90’s Bama and Clemson, couldn’t see Ed Reed, Donta highwtower or  deshaun Watson skipping games.  Jim would run through a wall for the school, Players can do what they want b I’m not vilanizing them but it’s not going to win championships.

Clearly, you aren’t completely dumb, because you have chosen the best possible debate strategy: call the author stupid and swear, then swear more.

I say not completely dumb because the alternative of trying to justify Harbaugh with facts, on field results, and his record vs top 10 would be a futile and moronic choice.

So, you are one notch above completely dumb.  Kind of like Harbaughs winning record against teams that suck.  I see why you would like him.

I don’t want to see Harbaugh go.  With that being said, there was an expectation when he came in. Fair or not, that’s what happens when you are one of the highest paid coaches.

The expectation was not to only beat the bad teams, but be competitive and beat the top ranked teams including OSU. This has not happened, the statistics show that.

He’s HAS to get an OC. We also need to look at the QB situation. Is Shea really the best option?

When it comes to Don Brown, his plan has been exposed. Just like the offense, he has to adapt.

Its going to be an interesting off-season
