In reality who could Michigan get to be a better HC?

Submitted by WeimyWoodson on December 29th, 2018 at 3:47 PM

I'm now onboard with the idea that Harbaugh is not the guy to get it done here, but who really could?  I feel like "eh this is kinda Michigan football, its not going to get better".  But really Michigan needs a coach who can come in here and revamp the offense.  No more of these FB dives, hand off to the running back to run up the gut for a year, slow tempo, delay of game when down like 30....

Not that Michigan would part ways but would would be a realistic coach to fix this mess because Saban and Dabo are not coming.

It is the arrogance of Michigan fans that thinks you have to have a bagman or cheat to win.

Read everything you can get your hands on regarding Clemson.  You will find a program that has no other reputation than being 100% legit, above board, and full of integrity.  Dabo has created a machine, and by all accounts, has done it the right way.

I do think that there are plenty of people in this forum room who understand football is well as Harbaugh does and could do just as good a job coaching the team in a game.

There are a lot of Young and Hungry coaches out there with brilliant football Minds we just wanted to be given a chance.  We were all so hot for Michigan  hiring Harbaugh that we were blinded.

If this team plays in games next season like they did in games this year, it's time for Harbaugh to go, or the athletic director in important alumni to force him to bring in better offense coaches.  Hardball needs to quit kissing a picture of Bo's rear end before every game and start playing football like it's 2019, not 1970

I love this opinion ...  Amongst a blog forum of armchair QBs, you think there is a head coach who could be better at Michigan than Harbaugh?!

Bahahaha.  Maybe if they’re allowed to play NCAA14.

My gosh, the internet makes people think they’re smarter than they are and type stupid things.

Anybody but a “michigan man.” Saban wasnt a bama man. Dabo wasnt a clemson man. Too man sunshine elitist in the um fanbase to let an outsider come in and fix it.

Not saying I am 100% fire Harbaugh, but would love to see what Matt Campbell could do with this talent. Has top 20/25 recruiting class coming to ISU, young guy, gets up for big games. Another guy I like is Pat Fitzgerald. Doubt he leaves his alma mater though (nfl is so, heard GB job).

Re Matt Campbell

"gets up for big games"

- loses 13 - 3 to Iowa and the Fighting Ferentz Family this year

- the following week loses by 10 to Oklahoma

- beats Akron by 13

- the following week loses 17 - 14 to TCU

- beats WVU, Texas Tech and Kansas

- then loses 24 - 10 to Texas

- beats Kansas State 42 - f'n 38

 - beat Drake (nm) fcuking Drake is on their schedule as it was God's Plan

- loses 28 -26 to the Pirate and WSU in their bowl

Um, okay, yeah, they "get up for big games".

I do not get the Matt Campbell nut huggers here. Not even a bit. Guy is a less accomplished version of Rich Rod as a candidate. No thank you.

Recruiting rankings don't matter though.

My take on Harbaugh: UM runs systems on both sides of the ball that rely on talent overwhelming opponent. Struggle against similar talent level. UM can win a title with JH but need to recruit on Bama/UGa/OSU level to do it. Not quite there yet.

Matt Rhule is a good coach (was coach at my alma mater Temple) but you would hate his offense which is largely unwatchable. If he retained Phil Snow at DC might be an interesting hire (though bring back some bad memories for Lions fans who remember Phil Snow as an assistant).

Hard to say if Rhule can bring back Baylor or not.

None of these candidates would have the cache that Michigan would need to make the hire to keep the donor base happy.

If Harbaugh leaves, the following list should be examined more thoroughly:

Lane Kiffin: basically Harbaugh but with a modern offense. Would be able to recruit top 5 classes annually. Not a proven winner as head coach.

Bronco Mendenhall: proven to be a winner at BYU and now building Virginia. Has a more modern like offense and defensively has been decent. Landed some surprising 4* talent at UVA.

Kevin Wilson: Yeah, he was mean to players at IU. Who cares? He is an offensive genius and rebuilt IU. His offenses have been elite at Ohio State.

Josh McDaniels: no clue if any interest in college, but he seems like a college guy. High energy, young, seems like a natural recruiter.

For those traditionalists: Jack Del Rio is available and would be intriguing. Hire him and demand he bring in a spread coordinator on offense.

Unless Justin Fields goes to OSU, we are going to be favorites to win the big ten next year. I'm not going back to the fucking era of losing to Rutgers and Maryland. We are inches away and everyone wants to scrap the program
