Rational Takes - Who do we get?

Submitted by clarkiefromcanada on October 31st, 2020 at 3:58 PM

I'm a longer term season ticket holder (back when you could actually go to games and things like that). I'm upset with this outcome and you too are probably upset with this outcome.

Rational takes then: who do we get if the Harbaugh experiment hasn't worked? Looking back at RichRod, Hoke and now Harbaugh (and I acknowledge the this team is a lot better off than Hoke era) but not good enough.

So who do we get?

Do we sell our souls and get Urban. Honestly, on this day, I think I'm willing.

I just don’t think Manual is the person to turn up any heat on Harbaugh. I really think Harbaugh will have to willingly leave or some type of scandal situation. I hope neither happen but conversation needs to happen soon discussing how to get over the hump. MSU shouldn’t be the catalyst for it though.

I know hindsight is 20/20, but when they slapped the banner and didn’t form a huddle immediately, I knew something was off.

at this point, you are what your records says you are. Harbaugh has yet to pull off an upset, and Mel did in 2 games against his most important rival!? You have to win big games.

I am not in the fire harbaugh camp, yet. I want to see the rest of the season play out. But he needs a couple of big wins this year. If not, it’s time to move on.

No one because anyone outside of the bo family will get shit on from inside Schembechler Hall. This program will forever be stuck in the Bo Schembechler way of things making that guy a god of coaching despite the fact that he was just good in a really crappy League.

People will support you if you win.  But, they won't give a new person the chance to rebuild.  A new "out of the family" guy has to be good enough to come right in and win 10 games in year one.  They won't allow one step back to take two forward.

Chris Klieman from K State.
3 years younger than Harbaugh. Won a ton at NDSU, and in his 2nd year at K State has them rolling.

He’s a realistic candidate to accept an offer, and would FINALLY let us move on from the Bo era forever.

Urban? Hahahaha that’s a good one.

All Urban would do with a Michigan offer is call a press conference at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center, invite every news outlet that would have him and listen to him, invite Day and the entire OSU football team onstage, wave the contract for all to see, proceed to wipe his ass with it, and then allow Day and OSU’s team to have a turn with wiping their asses with it as well.

Meyer would never, ever come here. And I honestly don’t know who Michigan could get who would change anything. I feel like who we are on the field is so far ingrained beyond just who the coach is.

Joe Brady and Luke Fickell would be my short list. Would also give a ring to Fleck and Mullen but wouldn’t invest too much in that. Maybe a Hail Mary gauge of interest to Urban but wouldn’t even try unless he is interested.

Brent Venables, Matt Campbell, Luke Fickel, would have to be the top 3 choices.

also see if throwing money at Gary Patterson to see if he would ever leave TCU if he was made top 3 highest paid coach in NCAA.

1. It doesn't matter what we offered Urban, he isn't coming north. Period... so let's stop kidding ourselves.

2. Matt Campbell I think is a real option, give an up and comer a chance.

3. Didn't Chris Peterson step down in Washington? I would wait until he's ready to coach and make him an offer for sure.

I mean, anyone know what the fuck Bob Stoops and Chris Peterson are up to?

There are options.

Mike Hart Associate Head Coach at Indiana actually looks like he fires his players up there. I know people don't want Michigan ties anymore but I honestly don't think there are legitimate coaches out there would coach Michigan.

Not sure how this can be called the “Harbaugh Experiment.” That generally refers to an attempt that was off the wall or had no evidence to support an expectation for success. Harbaugh was a pretty much a sure bet when he came here, was Harbaugh for 1-2 seasons, then for some reason mellowed out and turned into something else, and we are now seeing a gradual decline in quality of play. Rather than an experiment I would call it a long Harbaugh kick in the nuts.

Anybody not named Jim Harbaugh. MSU is won a rivalry in its first year with a 5-7 coach. Hire somebody less expensive. Save some money and if it works some great.

Save some money for what? The program is swimming in cash. We could double Harbaugh’s salary and not be hurting. Really don’t see why his salary is such a major talking point. Results are results. Do you honestly feel any better about Harbaugh’s results if he was paid $4 million instead of $8 million?

You guys are nuts if you think Fickell would coach Michigan. Dude was born in Cbus + played and coached there. There's just no way.

Don’t laugh..

Brady Hoke? He recruited better than Harbaugh and did better against our rivals than Harbaugh, including giving us the only win against OSU in recent memory.

I always felt like he should have got another year.

being a head coach these days is almost more about making good administrative decisions as it is about actually coaching the team.
