Ramzy from 11Warriors has spoken!

So like some of you i do check out that's going on over there occasionally. last year Ramzy wrote an amazing piece which ended with me needing a cigarette.

"Losing to Michigan like that is how Ohio State fans go full-cartoon and start talking about replacing a guy winning games at a 90% clip. But that's not just because he lost. It's because we've seen this type of loss so many times before, and we know what happens to coaches who lose to Michigan like this. They keep losing to them."

Here is this years' article for those inclined. Haven't read it yet, expect it to be just as good.

In all seriousness he really is their version of Brian.  They're both a little obtuse at times, Brian writing about turgid Shrek and Ramzy writing about hair color, but at the end of the day they are both so,so good at what they do.  I love reading his stuff, even if I dont always like what he's saying.

I love Brian and Seth. Been reading this blog for well nigh 15 years. Great writers. Ramzy is as well. That the team he roots for is anathema to all us here does not detract from his considerable talents.

Let's all make a year end beveled guilt contribution this holiday season and ask that they be used to add Ramzy to the staff. That would be hilarious. Writers transfer portal anyone?

Ramzy lost it over Stalions. I messaged him to pull back, he didn't. I told him I'm not bothering again.

It's a fine article today, good writing, understandable in an "oh there goes Uncle Ramzy fretting about hair color and getting it" way. He lies to himself, but you're allowed to do that, and he does it to keep loving his team, which is something I get and would do.

That wasn't the case last week. His "here's what I understand" take last week was linked in today's UFR as a cautionary tale for letting hatred dictate your reason. He lied. Not just to himself; he lied to his readership, told them 42-27 and 45-23 were just Stalions, told them the powers that be will justly take those away, knowing there isn't a shred of truth to it, because he wanted to hurt Michigan, to take away the wins the Michigan players earned and Michigan fans celebrated.

He lost a lot of credibility, maybe all of it, with that. To use a platform like this to lie, in order to hurt, out of hatred? It is not something I get, or would ever do. And it really bothers me that he did.

Yep.  Every "pundit" I hear who claims or alludes to sign stealing as the reason Michigan beat the brakes off OSU in '21 and '22 loses all credibility.  They're either idiots or liars, or both.

Although, I do enjoy it when the cooler-poopers say that the proof sign-stealing was a factor in Michigan's wins was because OSU only lost by 6 points this time.  Ha!  Only losing by six is all they can muster now.  How sad.  They got nuthin.

He lost a lot of credibility, maybe all of it, with that.

I feel that way with a number of media members that I thought were above that, that I thought were trustworthy.  This experience has been an incredible disillusionment.

And then to make it worse, the people that are just untrustworthy trolls are the ones taking our side.  Of course they are doing it just to be contrarian to troll everyone else.

At then end of the day nobody actually believes their own shit, and they don't care.  What they say is just a tool for some agenda.

But I guess I'm just being naive.  Why should sports be any different then anything else?

You're a better person than I for trying to reach out, Seth, but.... this is just who they are.

Also, Ramzy is the same guy who - after the fact - said he "wrote around" for years everyone on the OSU beat knowing that Zach Smith was a POS.  He's just another water carrier with a Grammarly account.

Articles were good.  I like the 2022 article where the writing makes you feel as if you are there.  I also like how he says that Third Base hasn't gone gray but we all know better.

Losing to these guys is almost worth it because it makes beating them all that much more euphoric.

It's not that it's bad writing--it's not great either. It's mostly lots of words to say Day "doesn't get it" and has got no balls.

It was interesting at the end when he suggested that Day needs to give up his play calling role.

A point he made in the middle that seemed wrong to me is that Day is making a mistake by trying to win the game from the previous year (i.e., played to stuff the run in 2022, then played to stop the explosives in 2023).

Here's what OSU just won't accept: It does not matter what you do, Ohio State. We will win The Game either way.

If you played 11 in the box in 2021, Cade would have thrown it over heads like JJ did in 2022.

Yes, in 2022 it was an overreaction to a ridiculous degree from their defense which led to the explosives.

But we saw the alternative this year in 2023. And what OSU did this year was a much better idea than in 2022! Ramzy says it was wrong but it was not wrong; it was very much the correct response. It almost worked.

But the reason it didn't ultimately work is because--surprise!--we're a very good and balanced team!

I mean, look at what Ramzy writes about the difference between 2022 and 2023:

Over the weekend he did it again. Day made the necessary corrections to win the 2022 game a full year too late, deploying a defensive strategy fine-tuned to avoid allowing all of those big plays from Columbus last November.

It worked! His defense didn't make any big plays, either. Another dated, paper strategy.

Coaches rarely win this game on paper. The Wolverines, who have no explosive edge players, were happy to plod along at four yards per snap and dink/dunk their way down the field to tight ends being covered by one linebacker who often doesn't know where he is and another playing with only one functional arm.

It's the same offense as last year! It's practically all the same players! What did he think would happen as soon OSU stacked the box? We saw it last year, so we don't have to guess.

Interesting points Henson. From a military perspective, two thoughts:

1. Initiative is far superior to reaction.

2. The ability to pivot midbattle due to unfolding events is initiative defined.

That we could beat them either way speaks to the preparation necessary to preserve all possible options during battle. Without saying it, I think Ramzy believes Day does not have the ability to prepare for the initiative or the courage to change plans in real time. And for 11 games a year Day doesn't have to do anything of the sort. He will simply out talent everybody he plays.

Ryan Day is a fraud, an imposter.  He knows he is not built for this. Ramzy nailed it.

All the whining and crying about sign gate, being a general bitch on B1G calls, hiring a PI!!!! Firm fergodsakes!…

Dude is an offensive coordinator, not a steward of a top 3-5 CFB program in the country.
We’ve seen how unhinged he is already, with the Lou Holtz rant and whining about bully UM and SiGNs! To the B1G.

I am petrified that OSU hires Mike Vrabel and he brings along young and talented NFL coordinators - The OSU program would then be Bama/UGA North, or More talented Michigan if they get the culture right.

As Pacino said in GlennGary -

Who told him that he was allowed to work with men.

Like the article, comments are a laugh-riot.

Seriously, though, would they really fire a coach who goes 12-1 every year with the lone loss coming to Michigan? Losing The Game sucks (as we all know), but that would be bonkers to do so.

He actually said this about Jim Tressel and Urban Meyer

Distinguished gentlemen. This is the reward for embodying What Good Looks Like.

And we're supposed to exhibit even an ounce of respect for him?

I do think its amusing how games that are like 51/49 affairs end up with dramatic sweeping conclusions coming from them. OSU was not far from winning this game, but they did not so its crisis mode in Columbus yet again. If they had won, Michigan would be getting ruthlessly dunked on right now. The difference may have been Jaylen Harrell barreling over OSU's left guard to end the game

He does not have gray hair. This is how Day shows his anxiety. He cowers in the moment in the one game on Ohio State's schedule where you cannot coach from a place of fear.

DAY TAKES THE GAME OUT OF HIS BEST PLAYERS' HANDS - THE NIL GUYS, THE PROGRAM MARQUEE GUYS, MY-KID-HAS-YOUR-JERSEY GUYS. IT'S NOT A GLITCH, IT'S HIS DEFAULT MICHIGAN GAME BEHAVIOR.

He talks about how previous coaches have aged because they coach at ohio state.

I wonder why Day has no gray hair.

It was a good read. First time I've been over at the site in a year, now I need a bleach shower.

I'm coming around to the idea that Day is just a different version of James Franklin.

Both coaches have their strengths --- Day has a great offensive mind, Franklin consistently brings in talent and players who genuinally seem to like their coaches and each other.

But neither one exudes ANY sort of confidence in the big game on their schedule (and it rubs off on their players).

Just watch --- I'd bet $100 now that OSU and PSU will go 2-0 in their non-CFP Bowl games, against whoever they play (even if it's a Alabama or Texas).  Their 2023 teams are legitimately good.  And the pressure will be off.  The Bowl game won't really matter, so then they'll play their best.

They're not killers. They're strategizers and recruiters and managers. But neither seems to have that piece that makes them a little crazy and dangerous. Harbaugh's disliked by the people he plays against because he's not scared, and you can sense that. He'll say whatever he thinks (or used to, I think he's intentionally toned that down), he doesn't care how it comes off. That's disconcerting to people who are social contract rule followers.

Dont have time to read the whole thing yet but Im guessing Ramzy's going to nail it based off this

Day forfeited the advantages of flawless weather, superior star talent, individual mismatches and home-field advantage to Jim Harbaugh by treating Michigan as just another game.

What wrinkle did OSU throw out? Did any of their players looked amped to be there? Michigan threw out the Edwards pass, the Orji bash, the Loveland pass on 4th & 1. There wasn't a ton of frippery, but it was enough to make it obvious Michigan was not treating this like any other game. That was the 3rd straight year where I felt like Day just came in with his base offense and expected to score 50 points or something (much appreciated Ryan xoxo)

My understanding is that most of Michigan's innovations were on defense coverages. Moore had an interview where he says that because Michigan had such a good practice, they kept it vanilla to focus more on execution. Webb notes that, for example, the Edwards pass is a play from last year.

But if you read Neck Sharpies, it's possible that even the idea that Ohio State didn't prep anything special for Michigan is wrong. They had some clever ways to take away McCarthy reads, for example (apparently squeezing the A-gaps shut, or something like that), but in any case, they had some special things in mind.

Beautifully written and insightful as to the anxieties of the job coaching Ohio. I do not think the narrative is accurate, however. It is not simply a matter of whether Ryan Day understands the rivalry. He had Ohio in a position to win and they damn near did. The way Ohio’s defense contained Michigan most of the game he did not need to gamble. Michigan *did* because without aggressive play calling the Ohio receivers are the difference in the game. Day was not out-coached. Michigan simply made plays. This game is the same if Urban is coaching and Day is calling plays. Michigan is playing with confidence and has an elite quarterback. It is more about what Michigan did than some flaw in Day’s psyche or game plan.

I think what he may be saying though is that the players didn't feel like they could win. It's like in 2014, I hoped Michigan would beat OSU but I didn't really believe it could happen, even on the final 2 pt conversion. same in 2016 and 2017...and now OSU coaches and players are playing tentatively.

It is a good read. Though the reality for me is not so much Day not having the cahoonas to call a play on 4th down but the ineptitude of their defense.

Over the past three games, UM in the 3rd and 4th quarter have a total of one punt and one missed FG. Six quarters of football and that’s all the OSU defense could accomplish.  UM has scored 9 TD and 3 FG in the second half over the past three years. That’s almost Don Brown bad style of The Game defense.

I hadn't read last years article yet, so I started with that one. Even Ramzy has some weird takes:

Michigan's third and fourth cornerbacks are both atrocious. Dayt had every opportunity to humiliate them, demoralize them and bring down the rest of the team with them. Day should have had C.J. Stroud pick on that scab until it bled.

Who does he think our third and fourth cornerbacks were? DJ Turner, the second round draft pick? Gemon Green, a starter who was coming back from injury? Did he really just underrate Mike Sainristil? I know he wasn't talking about Will Johnson, and those 4 were the only cornerbacks who got snaps in 2022.
