Setting aside my opinion of Warde, it's objectively kinda sad that Santa is basically doing Warde's job.  Why does the president feel the need to go over the head of the AD to retain the star coach?  When your boss has to step in because you're not getting it done, it usually doesn't portend well for your future...

It's a bit harsh for sure, but at least optics-wise it appears ol Warde is just sitting in his big office doing a whole lot of nothing.  And when you get paid like he does, us "normal" folk don't take kindly to not doin much, 'specially when it impacts one of the things we really love, M football.

I’m no fan of Warde, and I perish the thought of him having to conduct a coaching search.  That being said, Harbaugh’s NFL interest is real and we have no idea how that has played into the timeline for contract negotiations.  I’m also gonna wait for actual information (not Anson’s) before I skewer Warde, since there is near zero solid information that the only barrier is Warde.

I hear you but the observation is a general application about Boss A, Manager B, and Employee C.  If A has confidence in B to retain C (which seems to be the directive), A would delegate and observe at arm's length.  This situation appears to have become the opposite where A's felt the need to come in like "move B, get out the way".

I have stayed out of the Warde Bashing arena, but come on man. There is a preponderance of evidence and sources that Warde is less than all in for the on-going success of the football program and/or the coach. At this point, it seems there will be nothing to convince you of that unless he has a press conference confirming it. I've seen enough to form an opinion and educated guess where Warde stands.

Agree with the sentiment MgerBlerg but technically Ono didn't "go over the head of the AD", he IS over the head of the AD. And Santa appears to be stepping in and pushing Warde to the side because the AD didn't get this negotiation done to his satisfaction.  Ono said nice things about Warde in his tweet to help Warde save face.  If the facts as we understand them are true, Warde will need to go, if for no other reason than he has been neutered in his position.  Look for a graceful exit in the coming months.

My question does Santa think its ok he needs to meet with AD to keep coach happy?  Seems like Santa is playing middle man here which seems strange to me. I've heard of the AD playing middle man between President and coach but not this way very often. Interesting

While I don't know if Santa thinks it's ok that he needs to mediate between Warde and Harbaugh, I think it's a great sign that Santa is taking the initiative to mediate and realizes Harbaugh's importance to the university. Can you imagine how fucked we'd be if Schlissel was still president?

That is why it's called news.  People know more than Harbaugh even his friends are reporting unreliable,"stories!"  The main word that the collective voices can continuously use is,"IF!"  If Warde, then Santa, then Ono!  If this is true.  That cannot be true.  I will never worry about what another man does with his own life, livelihood.  Ultimately I don't care what we're being fed, most of it is mostly high piles of steamy, &$@)!

Santa delivers gifts as late as January now? Who knew!

On a side note, that was quite a timely move by the Board of Regents to oust that pervert president predecessor he had before him

Yet where is Warde’s statement through any of this? At least Harbaugh put one through the Michigan Football account. Everyone weighing in on this except ol Warde

Santa Ono doing Warde’s job and his job. Warde is coming out of this looking like an idiot and I’m not sure how he holds on given that his reputation wasn’t exactly stellar before these last few weeks.

As I said in the other thread last night, if a university president is taking such a close and public role in keeping a football coach, that's a sign that either the AD is a toothless job, or said AD is really, really bad at it. Ordinarily, you should not want, nor need this kind of intervention. And it's sad/laughable that Michigan is in a position to require it.

A breath of fresh air from Santa.

...and finally a non-cryptic message from Harbaugh that doesn't involve the words "I think". Which could be a good sign.

Jim also leaving Wardes name out of the statement he released speaks volumes about his current relationship with Warde.

We're going to have the hap-hap-happiest time since Bing Crosby tap danced with Danny fucking Kaye. And when Santa squeezes his ass down the chimney, he's going to find the jolliest bunch of assholes after signing Jim.

What job is Warde supposed to be doing except trying to maybe give Harbaugh a tiny bump in base pay to get him over Day and Mel. Maybe fixing the buyout so Harbaugh stops doing this charade every off season.

And if he’s doing this why does he have to broadcast this all over?

Glad we have someone who just gets it. Even if Harbaugh doesn't come back, it at least looks like he gave it his best shot.

If Schlissel was still here, he probably would've stayed as far away from these convos as possible, and would've expressed complete and utter disdain for having to participate in them.

Man, I have no info to confirm this, but it sure the fuck feels like Warde's seat is getting a little warm. Honestly, I feel like an athletic program with the size and prestige of Michigan's can do better at the AD position.
