Peacock Experience
How was the viewing experience for everyone with Peacock?
I thought Tirico was great as expected
The game coverage was overall good with few missed plays and good replay angles, but the image quality streaming to the TV left a lot to be desired. I would have rather had 4K image quality on a broadcast stream, but so it is with streaming services

I loved Peacock and everything about it. /s
September 2nd, 2023 at 5:02 PM ^
Saw comments about technical issues with the stream itself. Ironically, watching from an "unconventional" streaming service, I had no interruptions or technical issues.
September 2nd, 2023 at 5:54 PM ^
I had no interruptions either save the commercials which sometimes went so long there was a bit of the game missing.
I used to have YouTube TV. I swear that Peacock was a better viewing experience in terms of visual clarity.
Edit: I don't have any cable tv or other sources to switch to so I can't comment on switching back and forth to others games. I thought that the commercials were frequent, long and sometimes annoying. I figured with all of the reconfiguring of the conferences, and the billions paid by the networks that this was a given.

The whole episode after the Wallace turnover didn't show, restarting with ECU still having the ball and my cat suddenly walking out of the room like it just did a moment ago.
September 2nd, 2023 at 6:55 PM ^
Yeah. I was none too happy about that.
September 2nd, 2023 at 6:56 PM ^
as many mentioned elsewhere, the receiver was out of bounds when it went off his hands to Wallace, so it was a dead ball, but I don't think Tirico or Simms explained that, which they should have.
September 2nd, 2023 at 7:59 PM ^
Yeah, they blew that. Never explained a thing.
September 3rd, 2023 at 10:36 AM ^
Which is ridiculous. Chris Simms should know the rule and if he didn’t, they have a freaking former official as their “rules analyst” that they can bring in. I didn’t understand the ruling until I read about it this morning.
other than that, I thought the “Peacock experience” was fine. The picture quality was excellent for me and I had no technical difficulties. I love how they started the stream 5 min early to show the band. Tirico is one of the best in the business, although I think both announcers were a tad rusty…but then again it was Week 1.
September 4th, 2023 at 12:34 AM ^
There were more instances of this. How much you noticed them may have depended on how well you know the game. Meaning maybe you didn't notice but I sure did. I would have liked some thoughts on the shanked XP and why McCarthy's forward pass stood. There were some other instances too but I've already forgot them.
September 2nd, 2023 at 5:02 PM ^
It was wonderful!
September 2nd, 2023 at 5:02 PM ^
Hated it. Wanting to switch to other games was annoying because of having to change apps on the TV. Lost audio for a second. Tirico is refreshing.
September 2nd, 2023 at 5:03 PM ^
Honestly, watched the game on Peacock and thought it was fine tech-wise. Signal was crisp and consistent. NBC wasn't great but mostly because their rules guy seemed to not understand any of the rulebook because he was off 2-3 times when they went to him.
September 2nd, 2023 at 5:29 PM ^
Yes, having the rules guy not know the rules wasn’t great. Did he think he was auditioning to be the hot-take guy? JJ was a full yard across the line, when his heel is right at the line? Close call maybe, but he thought it was going to be an obvious overturn.
JJ gets earholed after releasing the ball, and he thinks there’s no problem? Not great, Bob.
September 2nd, 2023 at 6:13 PM ^
This. I thought tirico was really bad, it was like he didn't know anything.
September 2nd, 2023 at 6:23 PM ^
Agreed. Sounded like he really mailed it in. But then again the poor guy had to sit next to that jabbering idiot Simms all day/
September 2nd, 2023 at 6:34 PM ^
Yes. The ECU player literally launched and hit helmet to helmet into JJ. That's been called targeting since they made the rule. It's kind of the job of the announcing crew to understand basic rules.
September 4th, 2023 at 12:38 AM ^
THANK YOU. I knew there was another one I was forgetting. I actually ended up texting my dad about that one to refresh my memory and intent is not needed, forceful refers to how hard it hits, and it looked like it hit hard. No commentary, no explanation, no analysis, nothing. My dad of course was not watching because who wants to turn on Peacock for a game if it is not their team. (He usually watches Michigan because we usually discuss but he's an OSU guy). I was behind so I couldn't ask anyone else for their take.
September 2nd, 2023 at 7:59 PM ^
Come on, dude. JJ looked to be a good yard over the line.
September 3rd, 2023 at 2:38 AM ^
In fairness, we got away with one there. That was quite plainly an illegal forward pass.
September 2nd, 2023 at 5:03 PM ^
I thought the commentary was some of the worst I have ever had to listen to. Example, they said they see absolutely no evidence that JJ got targeted while scrambling out of bounds. Then they talked about how it was a crap call for like 3 minutes afterward. Hope I only have to listen to that group once a year or less. I watched 4th quarter on mute.
second example was the not understanding, a possible penalty wasn’t reviewable, they were blown away. So ridiculous to me.
September 2nd, 2023 at 5:44 PM ^
section 3 article 6 rule A seems to say that the replay official can issue that penalty.
September 2nd, 2023 at 5:52 PM ^
He was awful. Warren came in the game and he said nothing just talked about M getting beat by Clowney. Terrible
September 3rd, 2023 at 2:41 AM ^
That was cringe-worthy. They spent like five minutes talking about one play in a game from over ten years ago while the action in the current game was still unfolding.
September 2nd, 2023 at 5:05 PM ^
Canceled my subscription. No need for it anymore. Got it for the rest of September so I’ll tune in for any other B1G games. Tirico is always good. No other games on so I couldn’t flip Channels to check those so that was annoying.
September 2nd, 2023 at 5:07 PM ^
Not impressed. On the big tv the resolution was far from perfect and the audio was out of sync at times. I tried switching channels to the Iowa game once but it required too many clicks and too much time.
in the second half I watched on my laptop instead and the experience was much better. Overall for one game this season plus a few background games I won’t complain but since you asked…not great Bob.
September 2nd, 2023 at 5:07 PM ^
Maybe it's Xfinity's fault but I had some reloads. I hate how long it takes to switch so that I watched all their commercials. Tirico and Sims, meh, not terrible, not great. The rules guy was the best part as he's comically bad. By the end I was shouting at my TV, "Ask Terry!"
September 2nd, 2023 at 5:09 PM ^
Had free access to someone else's account. With the exception of one point when there was just the stadium sound and no announcing at all, it was just like it would have been if the game was on one of the networks. They completely missed plays, the commercials were repetitive and annoying, they were consistently wrong on what they thought the outcome would be when talking about replays.
This is completely unnecessary, nothing more than a money grab, do not support this.
Edit to add, my stream was consistently at least a minute behind espn's data.
September 2nd, 2023 at 5:09 PM ^
I absolutely loved it, thanks for asking. It was if heaven itself designed a sports streaming platform for my enjoyment alone. The announcers were beyond brilliant and insightful and the stream redefined the word excellence.
Oh wait, absolutely none of that which is why I posted a thread “If there is a worse ap than Peacock I haven’t tried it” about an hour or so ago.
September 2nd, 2023 at 5:09 PM ^
The picture for me was flawless. Looked great. Sucked not switching games. Especially the Buffs- TCU game.
September 2nd, 2023 at 5:31 PM ^
That’s exactly how I feel. biggest issue was the lack of ability to easily switch games during commercials. Looking forward to canceling my subscription later today/tomorrow
September 2nd, 2023 at 5:42 PM ^
One of the biggest downsides to streaming. I’d say the biggest but that won’t be the case until streaming is as reliable as cable, signal-wise, and we’re a long way from that.
September 2nd, 2023 at 5:11 PM ^
I thought it was fine. I’m just confused how OSU and Indiana are on CBS right now.
September 2nd, 2023 at 6:03 PM ^
It's not their turn yet. Peacock will be rotating through the season. I'm almost positive that no one will have more than one game.
I think we will see more of it for men's/women's bball, hockey and olympic sports.
Go Blue!
September 3rd, 2023 at 2:45 AM ^
That was also cringe-worthy. It was as if Gary Danielson and Brad Nessler knew absolutely nothing about OSU, IU, or the B1G.
September 2nd, 2023 at 5:11 PM ^
One app crash to start the second half, so I missed the first offensive play. Volume was much lower than other channels, but that could just be my setup. Hated not being able to easily flip to other games, and hated to watch without skipping ads. The latter was a problem for my son, who apparently is behind watching Ahsoka, and I couldn’t stop the promo.
September 2nd, 2023 at 5:12 PM ^
Production quality was a bit rough, which is a truck/crew problem. Chris Simms was meh, Tirico good as usual, but there were some errors that could easily happen on broadcast tv and would be embarrassing there.
I have a personal issue with Peacock putting stuff out in ads that isn’t family appropriate (not specific to this game only, it’s a general problem). Streaming in general is not as good as DVR for backing up and seeing things again—it’s difficult to get back live. And I fell victim to one of those periodic internet slowdowns that happen that interrupted my stream for a few minutes on my end.
On the other hand, I could pop out of the stream and hop right back in, something that can be a problem on other services. Picture was good. Peacock’s pregame feed just had a live feed from a stadium camera, which may have shown the band (wasn’t watching but it looks like it) which would be awesome.
But streaming is just not as good for flipping and stuff. And I like to see other games occasionally.
September 2nd, 2023 at 5:15 PM ^
I signed up last night specifically for the game, so this was my 1st experience with the app. Seemed no different than any other streaming app we use. I counted about 3 buffering issues that lasted 2 seconds or so but didn't miss a play. The overturned interception had no sound for the 1st 2 plays and that was annoying but that happens with cable sometimes too.
As an aside, if you have spectrum cable you can get 12 months of free Peacock and 90 days if only spectrum internet. I hadn't seen that mentioned in the lead up to the game and only found out last night while I was researching my options.
September 2nd, 2023 at 6:06 PM ^
I have Spectrum cable and internet, how do you get Peacock free?
September 2nd, 2023 at 7:10 PM ^
this way my friend: https://www.peacocktv.com/spectrum
September 2nd, 2023 at 5:20 PM ^
I had no issues. Watched first half on my TV and second half on my phone. Minor audio issue only. Would have liked more out of town scores maybe?
September 2nd, 2023 at 5:24 PM ^
Generally very good. Picture quality was much better than standard YTTV. They need to figure out the commercials. It was like whiplash ending and starting on top of each other. Only complaint is the non INT from Wallace. The audio cut out when they came back from commercial and the viewers got no explanation.
I watched on PS5 FWIW
September 2nd, 2023 at 5:29 PM ^
The only things I liked were the showing of the marching band pregame, and Mike Tirico. Felt like they never showed player stats, or team stats, never saw scores/highlights from other games, there was a lot to be desired.
September 2nd, 2023 at 5:30 PM ^
Meh. Average.
September 2nd, 2023 at 5:30 PM ^
Is there a way to easily tape a game on Peacock? I tried to find a repeat of the gam and I had no luck.
September 2nd, 2023 at 5:39 PM ^
Replay is there now. I just messed with it; there appears to be a timeline when ads occur. If you FF past one, you’re forced to see 1 minute of ads before you get to the game. And you can’t see where you’re at in the game beyond real-time counter. But at least it’s there if you missed it and want to watch everything from start to finish.
September 2nd, 2023 at 5:32 PM ^
The experience of trying to wait and go back to watch without ads (wanted to watch with my dad) was brutal. Fast forward and rewind was awful.
Picture was good, announcers were bad, glad we don't have to deal with it the rest of the season.
September 2nd, 2023 at 5:34 PM ^
Not bad, not great. There was a time in the second half, I think it was, that the announcers were missing for a bit. Didn't care for the repeated same commercials all game long. Maybe it'll get better. Like Tirico, but Gus Johnson is my favorite on game day.
September 2nd, 2023 at 5:34 PM ^
The streaming was flawless for me. Quality was crisp. If you had issues, it was likely due to internet service that wasn't fast or reliable, or perhaps your TV was too old? I don't know. I was happy with it, although some of the announcing left something to be desired.
September 2nd, 2023 at 5:34 PM ^
It was good.... high quality broadcast
only complaint is the player doesn't have the ability to fast forward 15 seconds at a time...... I like to watch slightly on replay to avoid commercials and it's easier to do with that feature
