Peacock Experience

Submitted by Dr Vorax on September 2nd, 2023 at 4:59 PM

How was the viewing experience for everyone with Peacock?

I thought Tirico was great as expected

The game coverage was overall good with few missed plays and good replay angles, but the image quality streaming to the TV left a lot to be desired. I would have rather had 4K image quality on a broadcast stream, but so it is with streaming services

I've had Peacock for a couple of years for Premier League & it is consistently the worst streaming app that I use.  It's a joke trying to rewind and I consistently have audio glitches or dropouts no matter which streaming device I use (Apple TV, Roku or iOS)

Watching the game in 4k was great. Thr video quality was great. There was a period of game action where there was no announcers speaking but could hear the stadium which was the only negative. The people complaining about the video quality must have had internet speed issues.

The ads streamed smoothly.  The game was choppy and had periods where the  sound and picture were out of sync.

Tirico was OK.  The color guy was terrible and and I wish I could remember his name so I could dislike him as an announcer more personally.

Didn’t like it.

It was acceptable through the hiccups. Video and Audio quality were good. Tirico was pretty good but the production van sucked ass.

The Jack'sLink's Jerky commercial with Bigfoot in the bathroom saved it.

Edit: Thanks for the neg Juiceman. You're probably a real hoot @ parties dude.

Tirico was fine as usual

Chris Simms was lame, seems to be living off of his dad’s name more than anything. Made sure to remind us he was the #1 QB recruit 24 years ago.

Stream was okay, seemed a little below the caliber that a Mike Tirico broadcast would demand, as there were at least 2 missed plays by production crew and the app was initially giving me 2 audio feeds the first couple minutes that were about 3 seconds apart, so I was hearing the audio ahead of the play on screen, then 3 seconds later in tandem with the play on screen, which obviously gave the play result away before it happened and it was just irritating to listen to.

But I turned my phone off, logged back in and all seemed fine after that.

App crashed once but otherwise a very smooth watching experience. And while I have no problem with the announcers, it was nice not to have to listen to them for a few minutes when their sound was cut off and we could hear the crowd and announcers. I have watched  a game without the announcers where you could only hear the crowd and PA and I truly enjoyed that experience. It's like being at the game where only your are the main source of paying attention to the game instead of having to listen to the announcers. And before some smart ass responds with, "turn the volume off, Dick!" recall I mentioned that the sound of the stadium along with the PA is what I can hear...not total silence.

I had 2 years free through my internet provider, it expired 2 days ago. I paid for the game today and I want a refund.

It froze over and over and over in the second half. We kept rebooting and had to fast forward back to where we left off. Then it would glitch constantly. We basically lost 15 minutes in the second half, it skipped to the last minute just in time to watch the blown shut out.

What a shitty app. Get bent NBC.

Peacock is bleeding cash - luckily they have the Comcast mothership to keep them in business.  Wouldn’t doubt they traded cash to the B1G for broadcast rights in the hope they would get more money back in subscriptions.  Didn’t work for me.

Picture and connection was good. Announcing was shaky. Audio was terrible. I hate that I have to use a separate app for this. I hate that they removed a % of game time this year and traded it for commercials, which is obviously not exclusive to Peacock. I already need a secondary task like cleaning my living room to make this doable solo at home.

Only 2 concerns:

missed multiple starts of plays or key ref discussions due to coming back from break late or showing another replay.

Also, the rewind is the worst I’ve ever seen on a streaming site. Click once, expect to go 10 seconds to rewatch the last play, instead with one click I’m watching Tim Biakabutuka breaking a tackle and I look down and I’m wearing Bugle Boy and No Fear.

Didn't read through all the comments but we lost the announcers for about five minutes in the middle of the game. We could hear the crowd and the stadium announcer but nothing else.

So I watched it from the app on my phone and what was great was I was able to watch other games on other apps simultaneously. The viewing quality was pretty good.

The service is set up for movie watching not live sports.  Peacock provides a terrible, frustrating experience for any sports viewing.

- I wasn't able to watch the game until 1 1/4 hour after kick-off.  Peacock does not provide watch from start feature.  So I had to hit live and then rewind.  Of course I saw the score at that point.  #@$%&!

- The rewind/fast forward feature is so clunky that you can only skip/repeat 60ish second increments.  Where is the 15 sec skip repeat buttons?  #@$%&!

- Since I was watching from behind and couldn't use my usual remote skills to catch up, the game ended before I finished the game.  At the 3 hour mark, the feed was finished and I was left wondering how the last 6.5 minutes of the fourth quarter went.  There was a message that replay of the game was not posted yet.  @$%& you Peacock.

missed some plays and replays because their timing for breaks seemed off.

some brief periods of pixelation and sub-prime picture quality.

some inconsistency with sound clarity and volume.

a few instances of buffering.

FF/RW controls on the app are a bit wonky too.

All in all, worth the $5.  I'd have spent a lot more than that going to a bar to watch it and eat lunch, and at the bar I wouldn't have been able to hear the broadcast, or press pause when needed.

But I'm glad M only has one more game on that platform this season.

What is it with these networks covering more of the screen with graphics of the scoreboard, to the point where on some plays I couldn't tell if there were receivers to the bottom of the screen or not?

If they're going to make the graphics that big, you'd think they'd have it programmed to recognize and disappear when there is movement (player, ball, etc.) in that part of the screen.

Peacock got me good. My favorite was Chris Simms showing up seemingly “unexpected” to begin coverage followed by a UM interception that was allegedly overturned and never addressed by Peacock. Yet we continued to watch an entire ECU drive with zero commentary. A few kinks to be ironed out.

I listened to the radio feed on the the varsity network app and was able to get some yardwork done at the same time. Now I'm watching all the highlights on nbcsports.com. No problems at all!

Overall good quality video, app crashed once but during a commercial so didn't miss anything.

Not enough replays.

The jack links commercial of Bigfoot pissing was ridiculously stupid and cringey and played far too often. Was I the only one seeing that ad?

I listen to the game on radio.  Big Ten can do a lot better than dealing with Peacock.  Who ever in the Big Ten decided on Peacock should be handed their papers.

It was fine, but I always dvr games and start them about an hour late to avoid having to watch commercials. Not being able to flip between games and having to watch commercials makes watching college football almost unbearable.

Was ok until about halftime and then got a lot of stuttering and buffering. Had to restart app and cast to my chromecast again. Happened a few times after that. The phone app is a bit wonky and crashed once or twice too.

Coverage was so so, Tirico was good but they missed plays and commentary dropped out for a minute after the non-INT

Upgraded to high speed fiber optic streaming months ago in preparation of the season, and the app was unwatchable.  Hulu worked great all day, but Peacock froze up dozens of times and reloaded every 2 minutes.  Missed JJ's 3nd TD pass.  I literally can't wait to delete this horrid excuse for an app.

I usually don't get to watch Noon games live as I work on Saturday mornings. I get home and load up the game on Peacock and do I get an option to start it from the beginning or live in progress? No. So I got to see we were up 23-0. This really ticked me off. I did go back to the start however and it was nice being able to skip all the TV timeouts. I don't know if you guys didn't have commercials but it seemed as soon as I caught up to where I joined the broadcast I started to get commercials instead of the "we will be right back" screen. As soon as I reached commercials I could not skip them like I can do with any regular DVR. This also ticked me off. At least Mike Tirico calling the game wasn't bad...

Rant over.

I give Peacock a 4/10 and that might be generous.

Absolutely terrible. Anyone who thinks cutting the cord and saving $30/mo to watch on apps is a good idea, is a complete moron. Trying to keep up with multiple games going in and out of the app is completely obnoxious. It’s no way to live unless you’re an extremely poor.

It is painful to watch games on Peacock vs. Youtube TV.  Besides being forced to watch ads, the functionality of their Roku app is horrible.

FWIW, I managed to watch the game on an iPad from France so Peacock at least managed an international detour. I actually enjoyed the moment when the announcer audio dropped out and I could watch a few plays with just the stadium noise. There should be a switch for that on every game.

My favorite part of the stream were the moments that weren't filled with senseless banter. For example, the 'pre-coverage' broadcast with the marching band, and the people setting up the banner. This is rarely ever seen on a traditional broadcast. The fact it was shown and without commentary made it feel more like the stadium experience.

Least favorite point is the inability to quickly flip between another game or two because it was in an app.

I use peacock regularly for premier league and Indycar viewing and almost never have any technical/buffering issues. I had several yesterday.  Makes me wonder if they aren’t quite prepared for the streaming/server load that big draw college football demands.
