OTish: MSU TE Maliq Carr in transfer portal
Not sure if Michigan is interested or not, but he's a local kid with at one time mutual interest and an offer.

Jeremiah Beasley from Belleville.

Supported his brother/cousin when he committed. Has talent. If he's willing to work, bring him in. Coaches earned our trust on transfers

I mean there’s something there to unlock in my opinion if he commits to work with Coach Herbert gets rocked up and works to block harder he could contribute a lot.

My guess is that a lot of these players are just trying to see what their worth is on the open market (NIL). Which they should it just makes the sport absurd right now...

Not just Maliq Carr this weekend - 6 other MSU players as well, including starting CB Charles Brantley. MSU going to be an entirely different wretched pile of donkey poo next year.

Don't worry about it, RCMB has Aidan Chiles with 7 of the next 28 Heismans behind one of the best OL in the country!!!!!!!!
December 10th, 2023 at 12:07 PM ^
My dream is Oregon or Washington convince him to transfer in. The RCMB melt down/helping secure Dante Moore would be an epic win/win.

He was a Big Ten offensive player of the week in November:

Give him a chance to prove he can block because he has a lot of raw talent as a receiving tight end.

That TD at the end is hilarious. He's a big boy if nothing else.
December 10th, 2023 at 12:40 PM ^
Holy shit. How did the LT not get flagged for holding on that play. He yanked the edge rusher from behind right in front of the official. B1G refs are horrible.
December 9th, 2023 at 8:51 PM ^
Take him. Herbert can shape him physically and UM offense will use his skills.
Hey, he can go from B1G cellar to penthouse with the right work ethic,
December 9th, 2023 at 8:53 PM ^
Definitely a take if he wants to come over to the good guys, embrace the culture and get to work. Alot of talent and potential there to unlock.

Are both Barner and Loveland returning? I don't think he'll see the field much at Michigan, but no harm in taking him if there's a roster spot open.
December 9th, 2023 at 10:16 PM ^
Loveland for sure, he is a true sophomore. Barner can come back but may try the NFL route.

Guy is a physical freak who was coached badly. Literally guys bounce off him like they are 100 lbs below him. Lets get him here.
December 9th, 2023 at 10:52 PM ^
Is he interested in focusing on basketball because we could use him there.

was looking at 247 this morning and prior to Carr they had 4 enter the portal and 1 yesterday. Carr and Kristian Phillips have them approaching TWO DOZEN DEPARTING . This is a revolving door that Tucker created. He tried to bring in 20+ a year through the portal. What this did was disenfranchise the program guys that had been there. So his lack of continuity led to the inevitable this year, enough guys to fill jerseys but ZERO cohesion, no program culture-or a negative one if any.
I checked Ourlads to see a projected depth chart. Looks like 0 RTs, 1 RG who happens to be a RS Freshman. Smith has got a lot of holes to fill and a ‘current 24 recruiting class of 7 is not going to cut it. I’m not sure how much he’s recruited this region of America, probably not much from OR State so he’ll be well behind the curve to close the 24 class. So he’ll have to desperately recruit through the portal. What kid in his right mind wants to come to EL to get his teeth kicked in? Look at mid-season ‘24 for MSU: Ohio State, at Oregon, Iowa then at Michigan.
As for Chiles, I think he may have blindly chose to follow a coach not understanding the dearth of talent awaiting. He better have serious wheels because that O line will have him running for his life.

p.s. the current MSU recruiting class is ranked #101, below Western, Central and Eastern Michigan. maybe even worse than Northern or GVSU, possibly Oakland, who doesn’t even have a football program.

Don't underestimate new coach smell plus immediate playing time. Whether patching an okay team together this year will even help them much on the path go building back up a program, I'm not so sure. Sure, you could get some mercenaries to patch holes, and then have the same issue next season. Might have to bite the bullet and bottom out for a few years.
December 10th, 2023 at 1:01 PM ^
MSU is basically where Colorado was with Coach Prime except Smith isn’t running guys off and he isn’t getting a Shaduer Sanders or Travis Hunter.
Chiles has never started a game or thrown more than 13 passes in a game. MSU is placing a lot of expectations on a kid who needs time to develop.
December 10th, 2023 at 6:16 AM ^
We should get him for the simple reason his brother is coming. Plus he can give us good reps at Flex TE
December 10th, 2023 at 10:04 AM ^
My first instinct is to say "pass," he never really impressed me much other than being better than the rest of their unplayable TEs. But Barner didn't exactly get us stoked at first so if the staff sees untapped potential..
December 10th, 2023 at 10:37 AM ^
Shit, I thought he was their best offensive player this season.
December 11th, 2023 at 10:01 AM ^
*weeps*
You're kinda not wrong. Carter had some flashes, Foster and Mosley were OKish, but Carr is definitely in the conversation. Which, given what I wrote earlier about him, explains a lot about how bad MSU was this season offensively.

I believe there is plenty to say about team culture. I may be going out on a limb here, but my impression of Sparty's culture is less than ideal. Makes it tough for an individual to "put in the extra effort" when the world around him is a dumpster fire....
HOWEVER, the mental aspect of "buying in" to a winning culture makes it easier to hit the weight room harder; run some extra gasser at the end of practice; follow the lead of the team culture. Winning is the ultimate team bonding... This isn't Allen Iverson coming into the program, this is a young man that wants to play with his brother and is willing to buy into the winning ways.
Bottom line, he is going to truly learn what it takes to be a champion. Immense talent, just needs to learn how to maximize it...
December 10th, 2023 at 12:11 PM ^
He could be a beast with our development/system but could also get lost in a deep room.
December 10th, 2023 at 12:58 PM ^
Three TE sets with Barner, Carr, and Loveland. Who needs big receivers?
December 11th, 2023 at 9:42 AM ^
As long as he's not trying to head-butt and spear people like Spartans do, why not? Dude is freaky.
