OT - RIP John Hoke (Coach Hoke's father)

Submitted by born1ntheArbor on

I read this earlier on another forum but didn't want to post anything until I found solid proof. It was confirmed by a friend at Michigan. Brady Hoke's father passed away yesterday. He was battling stage 4 lung cancer.

And may your father rest in peace.

Lost my father to cancer 20 years ago this week. It is a strange pain that is hard to explain.

Big Ups to Mr. Hoke for fathering a child who would later go on to coach our beloved football program. He raised a good man. Double Hoke Point towards the sky on that one.

I hope and pray Coach Hoke can get through this difficult time.  Hopefully he can be comforted by the fact that his father got to see him obtain his dream position and have a very successful first season.

I'd like to think that Mr. Hoke is sitting down right now with Bo enjoying a cold beer and making fun of Woody for punching that kid during the Gator Bowl.

Rest in Peace, John. Thoughts and prayers to the entire Hoke family. He must have been a great man to raise and instill in Coach Hoke such solid principles.

Having lost my own father to Cancer as a teenager, I feel for Coach Hoke and his family.  In life, sometimes we try to "prepare" ourselves when a loved one is terminally ill, but as much as we try to "prepare" ourselves, you never are "ready" to lose a loved one.  Even though Coach Hoke is in his 50's, it's still a tough thing for a son to deal with losing his father, no matter the age.  My thoughts and prayers are with the Hoke family.

May Mr. Hoke Rest In Peace...

...may our players practice in his memory and practice harder than they ever have in their lives this spring.

Coach Hoke, we love you and our prayers are with you. Must have been one hell of a father and man judging by how you turned out. At least he got to see his boy fulfill his dreams and coach a spectacular season at Michigan before he passed.

My thoughts are with Hoke and his family. His father will be watching over him and this team and be proud, I'm sure of it.

RIP John. Cancer took my dad 13 years ago. Stomach cancer and when the docs opened up dad to take a look, they closed him right back up. It had spread to the liver, gall bladder and intestines. Two weeks in a hospice and no more. The last hour with my dad was spent watching a Jim Brown special. Football was a bonding experience for him and myself.

But I can't imagine a much better time to go. You've just watched your son achieve his number one goal in life, beat Ohio State, win the Sugar Bowl and cement the Hoke family name in the pages of history for ... well... forever. When it's time for me to go, I hope I can feel even a fraction as satisfied with my life and the legacy my family will leave.
