OT: Kentucky QB Gunnar Hoak to grad-transfer to Ohio State
I've learned that Gunner Hoak, the former Kentucky QB from Dublin, will be transferring to Ohio State. The expectation is that he will compete with Justin Fields for the starting job and not just be an extra roster arm, though Fields is obviously the front-runner.

Kind of a follow-up to previous board discussion of OSU's backup QB Matt Baldwin entering the transfer portal from an already depleted QB room from a depth perspective.
This will give Ohio State 3 scholarship QBs going into the 2019-2020 season, and the drop-off is pretty steep.
- Justin Fields
- Gunnar Hoak -or- Chris Chugunov (former grad-transfer from WVU)
Never heard of her.
Oh just f*ck those cheaters. So tired of them.

A quick look at his stats at Kentucky allow.....no actual basis for a judgment, as there really isn't a lot to look at.
Yeah, I did a quick google search out of curiosity and boredom.
Sounds like Gunnar Hoak (RsFr.) narrowly lost the starting QB job at Kentucky to Terry Wilson (RsJr.) before the 2018 season. Hoak was even put in for a couple games early in the season when Wilson struggled.
Wilson eventually solidified his starting position, and decided to return for this redshirt senior season. Now Hoak is grad-transferring with two years of eligibility left.
So you are saying that he really is going to columbus for that EXCELLENT education, wow who would have thought!
/arrogant Michigan education snob, I know
Low 3 star with MAC offers and a Syracuse offer coming out of HS and he got no run at UK. He's not competing with Fields no matter how hard they try to sell that.
Worth noting that Gunnar Hoak was also born and raised in Columbus as a Buckeye legacy, so he also sees it as coming back home as well. Hoak's father, uncle, and his cousin all played for the Buckeyes.

Does that mean he gets extra time to finish his exams?
With a last name like that...his ass is grass!
slaps on butt...
Clap...clap...clap

Are you.. making that ass clap?
Eviscerate a little more Tito’s
Harbaugh can't develop his own QB recruits! Oh wait, nevermind.
Dylan McCaffrey seems to be doing pretty well.

I realize that you’re an Ohio fan, so mostly likely a fucking retard, but Harbaugh had a long career before coming to Michigan. A career in which he developed many good QBs.
Peters didn’t work out, but he got Wilton within inches of beating a great Ohio team. A shitty QB coach can’t do that.
Not scared. Bring them on...
Let’s hope we see a lot of him on the field for the Buckeyes this fall.
Yea, their backups always fail spectacularly when they play Michigan just like in 2014 and 2017.
First Mattison, now Brady’s son.
Great.
So if fields loses the starting job will he transfer? I mean there is a good chance someone at OSU says something negative.
He might not feel safe with all this competition...

Never heard of him, next.
April 27th, 2019 at 10:30 PM ^
I'm sure he'll enter in the second half against us for an injured Fields and proceed to drop a few key third-down dimes while leading the Buckeyes to yet another impressive victory.

They also took a preferred walk-on 3 star with one FBS offer (from South Alabama). So their QB depth chart is:
1) True Sophomore with 42 career attempts in his first year in the system.
2) RS JR with 26 career attempts who couldn't beat out a JUCO transfer with 11 TDs to 8 INTs at Kentucky last year.
3) RS SR former walk-on transfer from WVU.
4) Walk-ons.
Yikes.

Yikes is right.
Maybe Pony can hold them under 60 this year. I'm cautiously optimistic.
but it's Ohio State so we know how it will go. Either Fields plays at a near-Heisman level all season and is never injured or he is injured, one of these back-ups enters and plays miraculously well for them, and once they graduate will never play a second of professional football anywhere

I prefer talking smack when we actually accomplish something rather than chirping as April B10 champs. Adding gasoline to the narrative of a cocky and arrogant UM team that hasn't put much of a whisper in the W column in the last 2 decades and then losing to an unknown coach without a preseason functioning quarterback doesnt have a nice ring to my ears.

lol
the single comment on the ozone about the transfer
'nice to add a body'
April 27th, 2019 at 10:58 PM ^
I'm sure we'll hear how Clappy Hoak has good pad level and had a good week of practice.
Speaking of obsessed....why don’t we take a look at the OSU fan trolling a Michigan board. Pot, meet kettle.
Seems pertinent to discuss your arch rivals #1 thin spot, no? At least we're not doing something pathetic like trolling our arch rivals board complaining about what they post.
Says the Ohio State fan spending his Saturday night posting on a Michigan forum.
This from the guy who signed up on his rival's most visited message board and pretended to be a fan of said rival. Talk about a fucking loser.
Take it easy on the guy. He's probably 11.

It'll be interesting to see if they let Fields run a lot.
April 28th, 2019 at 12:48 AM ^
Despite that being a strength, I hope they don’t let him run. It takes a QB a full year to learn the offense. Two grad transfers in their first year with the program are not going to be a serviceable true backup. Chugunov enrolled early but he still won’t be fully up to speed.
You have to let Fields be who he is! If his running is effective, I think they will call his number especially in big games.
April 28th, 2019 at 10:47 AM ^
You’re 100% right Worldwide, I’d rather they didn’t, but your comments are spot on.
April 27th, 2019 at 11:53 PM ^
First time since 2011 I can say that I wouldn't trade our QB room for theirs. Gotta think that's a huge step
April 28th, 2019 at 12:44 AM ^
?
All dumb ass OSU posters are saying, “day better get a grad transfer to fill in”. What college kid is gonna go to OSU to be a back up for a year when they left their original team because they were gonna be a back up? Fucking idiots I tell ya.
sad to hear it
Knowing our luck, Fields gets injured and Hoak ends up being Hiesmen level talent...don't worry he too will get hurt...but then this Chugunov kid will end up being the best of three...for about 4 games...which inevitably will include a beat down in Ann Arbor...I'm gonna go cry at the thought of it now.
This is the year. Gotta beat them this year. New coach, new QB, home game. Gotta win.
April 28th, 2019 at 12:34 PM ^
So here are Gunner Hoak's Kentucky stats from last year:
4 games 13/26 = 50% 167 yds 2 TDs 1 Int
Maybe we should hope he wins the job, with only a month of practice to learn the system ;o)
Let’s just stay quiet, keep our heads down and watch this unfold. Going to be interesting.
Transferring from UK to OSU is a bitch boi move on his part tbh. I wish him nothing but misery and failure.
