OT How can Mew be more powerful than Mewtwo?

Submitted by Frito Bandito on
Mewtwo is a clone of Mew and is supposed to be an advanced copy of Mew. However Mew can learn any attack in Pokemon red or blue making him much more valuable. Can anyone explain this?

Mama by Genesis is my favorite song of all-time.

I get some evil thoughts when I play it while driving since it was on GTA IV.

I personally have no idea, but my daughter is damn near expert on all things Pokemon, which makes it a shame that she is at her grandmother's for the night, otherwise I would quite literally sit her in front of my computer so she could respond to this one. I am afraid Pokemon was after my time, though I do get bits and pieces of it whenever the kids have it on.

The Blue and Red versions were before her time. Those were all the rage when I was in school. I was more of a Gold/Silver era, though.

They banned Gameboys and the cards at my school when kids got in a fistfight over them.

I got my carmander card taken away by Mrs. Hutchinson in 2nd grade. Broke my heart. I too had both Gen 1 and Gen 2, but I played gold waaaay more than I did red or blue. ended up with something like a level 97 vaporeon as the pokemon I'd take through and beat everyone with just him (or her? don't remember). when I was in college someone whipped out a Gameboy color with gold in it during a 3 hour night class. that was the last time I played. it was amazing.

Because the White Supremacist Capitalist Patriarchal society which runs the video game industry made him that way. /s

but in Mewtwo's bio page it is said that he "has a savage heart, lacks compassion and strikes fear into opponents with his cold, glowing eyes".

Sounds like our football coach.

Good Gotham... I get this all day from my 5 year old and now it's here too? "This one is a fire type and it does 50 damage..." I'm considering slipping a porno into his room just to shove him out of this stage.

Sorry, but Mew has nothing on Mewtwo. Mew may be able to learn any technical machine (TM) attack in the game, but there's one very important attack in Pokemon Red/Blue that isn't a TM - Amnesia. If you've forgotten what it does (or used it yourself) it jacks the user's special stat to insane levels. Due to a programming quirk, the special stat affects both offense and defense. So it turns the user into a brick wall that hits like a nuke. And Mew can't learn that move. Who can? Motha-effin' Mewtwo.

Yeah I always wanted mew to be better. I liked mew better back in the day. no idea why. maybe it's the good guy/bad guy thing. regardless, mewtwo is better for this exact reason. well done. also, finally a pokemon thread on mgoblog! my elementary self thanks you.

As far as the games go, Mewtwo is much more powerful than Mew. While Mew is rarer and has a more diverse move pool, Mewtwo's base stats are much higher. And that doesn't even take into account Mewtwo's mega evolutions, which make him far and away more powerful than Mew.

Mew is a solid 5 star recruit. Mewtwo will need to earn an invite to the "Pokemon Opening". Depending on that, and other Pokemon camp performances, a 5th star isn't out of the question

Because mew is an older character, and has what no fancy upgraded new character could ever have, the ultimate secret weapon of any fighting genre: nostalgic plot-armor. Also, mew is a veteran. Experience counts. See: Soldier with Kurt Russell, or Skyfall with Daniel Craig, or Space Cowboys with everybody.
