OT - Former Michigan Target Skyy Clark Leaves Illinois Basketball Program Mid-Season
Skyy Clark was a former top-40 recruit that Michigan targeted but ultimately ended up at Illinois. Started nearly every game this year for them at point guard (averaging 7/4/2). He announced today that he's leaving the Illinois program mid-season - maybe a potential target for Juwan next year? Either way seems obvious Underwood has lost that locker room

no matter how hard i try i cant hope for good things for illinois so ....
haha

Eh out of all the Big ten teams aside from the two obvious satanic cults i would have Illinois near the bottom of most annoying fanbases. Indiana (basketball), Penn state, Nebraska fans are far more repulsive
January 6th, 2023 at 3:40 PM ^
Um...you need to live within the gulch of the Illinois fanbase to know that they have no more passionate loathing for any team beyond Michigan.

this ...

WCB, having lived in Illinois for quite a while, I agree completely…

I live in Urbana and can confirm.

It's really feels like every fan base has no more passionate loathing for any team beyond Michigan...

I had a meeting with a new hire a few years back and we got to talking about alma maters. I told her I went to Michigan and she gave me a sheepish grin and said, "Oh no! I went to one of your big rivals. I hope you won't hold that against me!" I assumed she meant OSU or MSU. I had to hold back my laughter when I learned that she was referring to Illinois.
January 6th, 2023 at 4:23 PM ^
This is patently wrong. They hate Michigan essentially as much as MSU and OSU do to be honest. We are there primary rivals without question (I can say this with confidence living in chicago).

Which is mainly just sad. Illinois is one of those teams I have to remind myself is in the conference. They just occupy no head space.

Nebraska? For decades they’ve had a reputation as the nicest fans in the B10.
January 7th, 2023 at 11:03 AM ^
They’ve only been in the conference for one decade, but during that time, they’ve indeed had a rep as nice fans.
January 6th, 2023 at 5:22 PM ^
You, sir or madam, have clearly never been to /r/CBB or twitter. I applaud your good decision making.
January 6th, 2023 at 5:39 PM ^
Oh, that fanbase sucks ass in a big way. It’s not their hatred for Michigan. There’s tons of Michigan loyalty hanging around Chicago anyway to wash it out.
Here it is: When Illinois basketball and football sucks, which is most of the time, it’s really as if they have no fans at all. But, when they do have a good team, well, damn, then they act like they have been a goddamn dynasty year in and year out since time immemorial.
Its the worst fair weather status you could imagine. And every last one of them is guilty.

Indiana basketball fans are definitely special.
I'm a longtime Chicagoan and ... I can't relate to a lot of the responses here about Illinois fans. I must have been lucky. I've heard plenty about their "rivalry" with Michigan but most of the alums I know recognize that it's a little ridiculous.
January 6th, 2023 at 3:25 PM ^
I wouldn't play for this guy either.
January 6th, 2023 at 3:28 PM ^
Wow, had not noticed before but now I can't "not" see it.
January 6th, 2023 at 4:28 PM ^
Well at least not the marty crouch version.
January 6th, 2023 at 3:27 PM ^
Only Texas (before firing their BB coach) could claim to have a bigger pair of asshats run their FB and BB programs than Illinois. Underwood and Bielema are pathetic.

Auburn says hello
January 6th, 2023 at 3:45 PM ^
You are correct, Milk. Sometimes I wonder if Auburn is even a school.
Past Baylor coach tandems have also been mind blowingly terrible.
January 6th, 2023 at 3:29 PM ^
We'll sign him then Dug will leave. Rinse repeat.
January 6th, 2023 at 3:49 PM ^
If history is the predictor of the future BINGO! I'm not sure how he is going to solidify the position in the program but it needs work beyond question
January 6th, 2023 at 5:26 PM ^
I have major basketball bpone right now. Doesn't feel like we'll ever get it right. Need a football like turnaround.
January 6th, 2023 at 3:35 PM ^
i think he should be able to transfer and play immediately. that's the fair thing right? i mean regular students can transfer between semesters.
January 6th, 2023 at 3:49 PM ^
We certainly could use him.
January 6th, 2023 at 3:48 PM ^
The good thing is that as a freshman the credits thing won’t be an issue for Michigan. He ultimately will head to the NBA in a year or so anyway. Can’t remember where he was at on our list but may be worth kicking the tires on. It’s only fair after they got Shannon after we couldn’t accept him as a transfer.
January 6th, 2023 at 3:49 PM ^
I don't remember who said it first on this blog, but now every time I think of Underwood, I see Mama Fratelli
January 6th, 2023 at 5:18 PM ^
I think Underwood should be able to find recruits...
IN A VAN DOWN BY THE RIVER!
January 6th, 2023 at 5:21 PM ^
Can Shannon come in a package deal?
January 6th, 2023 at 6:14 PM ^
An Illini friend of mine told me they were having problems. I thought they got off to a good start. After we lost to CMU I stopped keeping track of the others because it became impossible for us to come out on top in the schadenfreude competition.
January 6th, 2023 at 7:01 PM ^
He ain't coming to Michigan given Dugie is also afrosh.
January 6th, 2023 at 7:57 PM ^
Given he has a PG brother with an offer from Kansas coming out in 23, I would think the return of the pursuit of Skyy would make a lot of sense for a Michigan team with only one true point currently on the roster and none committed for 23. Michigan is all about keeping it in the family.
January 6th, 2023 at 10:08 PM ^
We shall see. Underwood says that Skyy Clark remains a part of the program. For his part Clark is saying this is purely a personal/family situation. He's probably done at Illinois -- but even that isn't totally clear.

Underwood is an absolute lunatic on the bench, but because of the incident last year, if Juwan looks at a ref the wrong way it’s plastered all over the internet that he’s a loose cannon.
