OT - Favorite Sports Movies, by Sport
With the absence of sports and running out of shows to binge, I've been watching and re-watching a lot of movies, some of which are my favorite sports movies. There are so many good ones but which are your favorites, per sport? They can be based on real life events or original screenplays, just not Documentaries. Here are mine, feel free to add any sports that I didn't add.

Snow Skiing: “Hot Dog: The Movie”
It also ranks as one of the best soft core porns ever. And it has one of the best burns, when the bad guy sleeps with the good guy’s girlfriend Sunny: “I had sunny side up. And I had sunny side down. And I had sunny side all ze vay around...”
Better off Dead was a great skiing movie too.

Ping Pong: Forrest Gump
Balls of fury
Football - Rudy
Baseball - Field of Dreams
Hockey - Slap Shot
Golf - Happy Gilmore
Basketball - Blue Chips

Any Michigan fan that says “Rudy” is the best at anything should be forced to get an OSU face tat
Some people prefer fiction.

Good call on Vision Quest.
Out Cold is not a very good movie (for skiing/snowboarding) but I love this scene.
Out Cold is a very enjoyable movie that does not take itself seriously at all. I probably watch it once every 2-3 years and have a good time.
Good off-center call with Everybody Wants Some.
Remember the Titans
Baseball: Bull Durham / The Natural
Basketball: Hoosiers
Football: Friday Night Lights
Hockey: Slap Shot
Boxing: Cinderella Man
Golf: Caddy Shack
Auto Racing: Talladega Nights
Thank you for bringing up The Natural.
Ooooh, The Natural has me really thinking. I think I'll stick with Everybody Wants Some, but The Natural is such a great movie.
Hard Target with Jean Claude Van-Damme
Baseball: One in a Million, The Ron Leflore Story

I'll just cover my ranking of Rocky movies....
1. Rocky IV
2. Rocky III
3. Rocky II
4. Rocky
5. Creed
The above are all great movies, but wayyyyy down here.....
6. Rocky V
(Haven't seen Creed II yet. Heard it's great though.)
Extremely rare for a movie franchise, IMO, for each sequel to be better than the previous movie, for the most part.
What about Rocky Balboa?
All of you should be ashamed. No one has Mighty Ducks as a favorite hockey movie in this thread. Mighty Ducks I & II set the standard for sports movies.
Mighty Ducks 2 wasn't good. Mighty Ducks, though, was very good! Hockey is hard to make a movie out of because most movies end is last second heroics and unless you're un Sudden Death, the sport just doesn't work like that. Miracle was an incredible docu-drama from an incredible real life story. Slapshot was an insanely funny movie and Youngblood gave a good look at the Major Junior life.
Cricket - Lagaan
Hockey: Threat Level Midnight
Sailing:
1. Maiden - if you have daughters, a must see.
2. Morning Light - great if you have teenagers.
3. What About Bob? - “I’m sailing!” is one of my favorite movie lines.
Hockey - Slapshot
Martial Arts - 5 Deadly Venoms
Skiing - Ski School 2
Miracle. This and nothing Else. They hired hockey players and taught Them how to act, not vice versa. Every other sports move feels fake
Baseball - Major League
Football - Varsity Blue and The Program. Any Given Sunday also up there, mostly because of the Pacino speech and how insane it is a backup QB gets a rap video in, like, 2 weeks.
Basketball - White Men Can't Jump and Space Jam
Boxing - Creed
Hockey - Miracle or Mighty Ducks
Unsanctioned Fighting to the Death - Bloodsport
Kickboxing - Kickboxer
Golf - Tin Cup
Running - Prefontaine or Without Limits (and I dare anyone to remember the differences without looking them up).
Wrestling - Wrestling With Shadows
Auto-Racing - Days of Thunder
Really, really intense mixed martial arts - Gladiator
Cycling - Breaking Away
Hoosiers
The Waterboy
Miracle
Bull Durahm
Baseball - Bad News Bears
Football - Any Given Sunday (just for the one inch speech)
Hockey - Miracle (but only because it reminds me of the real thing)
Boxing - Rocky
Running - Chariots of Fire, Prefontaine
Martial Arts - Karate Kid
Global Thermonuclear War - Wargames
Would you like to place a nice game of chess?
Miracle was beyond excellent, even though not my favorite. Not to say it wasn't the best.
Baseball - 61*, 61*, I think 61* , Major League
Remember the Titans, Rudy
Miracle, Slap Shot
Hoosiers, Blue Chips (brother in crowd)
Breaking Away (co-worker has very long hair in crowd). Must see movie as is 61*
Tin Cup
Man's Favorite Sport (fishing, Paula Prentiss for boomers)
Boxing: The Fighter
Baseball: Sandlot, Major League, Bull Durham
Football: The Replacements
Hockey: Miracle
Basketball: Hoosiers
Basketball: Hoop Dreams
Baseball: Bull Durham
Auto Racing: Rush
Hockey: Slapshot

Golf: Caddyshack
Boxing: The Fighter
The board always comes through on these topics. Many excellent choices.
I don’t think I saw these two but might have missed them.
Olympics - Icarus
Ice Skating - The Cutting Edge - Moira Kelly!
Baseball - Moneyball, Football - Varsity Blues, Hockey - Miracle, Basketball - tie between White Men Can’t Jump and Above The Rim (RIP, Amaru), Boxing -Rocky 4, Tennis - I like tennis, but do not recall seeing a movie centered on it, Golf - The Legend of Bagger Vance, Olympics - never seen any but want to see I, Tonya, Martial Arts - The Karate Kid, Racing - Days of Thunder
Wrestling - Vision Quest
Football - The Best of Times
And 8-mile is the best non-sports sports movie.
The Warrior was pretty good for MMA.
