OT: Best/Worst Christmas movies

Submitted by Hotel Putingrad on
Sitting at home waiting for the furnace guy to show up, I stumble across "Santa with Muscles," starring Hulk Hogan and the incomparable Ed Begley, Jr. I'm still not sure which category this one falls into for me, but what are your picks for best and/or worst Christmas movie ever?

Best: Christmas Vacation closely followed by any of the Rankin/Bass stop motions...especially The Year Without A Santa Claus.

Worst: Saving Christmas

Side note of anger: I hate that NBC bought the rights to this movie so it's usually only shown twice a year and they don't seem to advertise it much.  When I was a kid, I could catch that movie on multiple stations every day from Thanksgiving to Christmas.  In one night, you could catch it in black and white, color and technicolor.  That and ND football are two reasons I hate that network.

WTF, I hate NBC.  If you don't want to wait until Christmas Eve.  They are showing it a few times on USA Network (I guess they own the station now).

USA Network: Sunday, Dec. 13 at 8pm; Monday, Dec. 14 at 1am; Sunday, Dec. 20 at 3:04pm ET/PT

So back-to-back on a Sunday night and then at 3:04(!)pm the following Sunday.  Apparently NBC/USA Network hates football fans.

Its not one of the best ones out there, but I kind of like the Vince Vaughn/Reese witherspoon "Four Christmases." My parents are divorced, so we have to rotate the holidays between 3 families (thankfully my wife's parents are married) plus do our own Christmas, so that one I can totally identify with.

Otherwise, Elf, Die Hard, and Home Alone would be my faves. Gotta love A Charlie Brown Christmas too.

Best is I would say The Ultimate Christmas Present that premiered on the Disney channel in 2000 starring John Salley

I also enjoy Home Alone 2 over Home Alone 1

Worst is NBCs Christmas Vacation part 2

My favorite two are Bad Santa and Christmas Vacation.

And I know they are not Christmas movies, but I used to really enjoy when Spike TV(?) used to do the James Bond marathons in December. I could watch those back to back to back all day.

A Christmas Story, and The Home Alone series are classics.

I really don't like, "Christmas with the Kranks." I feel like they tried to hard to be funny in that movie.

I have three: The Santa Claus (only the first one), Bad Santa (great drinking game), and Elf.

I have really grown to like Surviving Christmas, it's actually funny. You also cannot beat Home Alone 1 & 2

I'm on the same page with most (Christmas Story, Home Alone, Die Hard).  Batman Returns is pretty good.

I did not see too many Shane Black movies, though, as he loves to incorporate that into all of his screenplays.  Lethal Weapon and Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang are two of my favorites.

even though its not just about Christmas - great movie!  I'll also put in a vote for "Love Actually" - just to hear Joanna (Olivia Olsen) sing "All I Want for Christmas is You" at the end of the movie is totally worth watching.  Puts me in the Chistmas spirit!

one of my new favorites is Four Christmases with Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon. Don't know why but I always get a kick out of it.

Christmas Vacation, Christmas Story and Elf are in my quiver, too.

unless it's hosted by those Chrisley assholes, which is what they're doing on USA. That automatically puts it into the no-watch list.
