Solid summary, Doc.  I also…

Solid summary, Doc.  I also think Harbaugh is a great coach.  We will regret it if we as fans run him off IMO.

Agree with and appreciate your analysis, Doc.  I also typically step away from this blog after a tough loss. The “eat your young” mentality here after a loss is too much negativity for me.  The world is not perfect, and often IMO fandom requires a bit more blind faith and support than many here seem willing to give.  If I didn’t feel like Harbaugh was “all in” it would be different, but I feel he’s as frustrated as we are. He’s too competitive not to be.

See you back here soon.

Thanks for sharing this!

I’ve got a good feeling…

I’ve got a good feeling about this year!  Go Blue!

Well deserved!

Well deserved!

Maybe a 4th reason too.

My sense is JB might like to see his son follow him coaching UM when he retires.

One key additional explanation about last year’s

experience that hasn’t been brought into this yet is everything Jim was likely going through personally. A new, and premature, child born in January must have drawn a fair amount of his attention all of last season. Many have observed here how different and distracted Jim seemed last year. While some of that have been the result of a calculated change on his part, some was also perhaps him coping with everything he had on his plate last year. I give Jim credit for such a strong set of moves to fix things. I think good things are ahead for us for this year. Go Blue!

Boys need to have jobs and work IMO.

The earlier, the better. Best way to get and keep them on the right track. Even if they are great students having a real job builds great character traits.

Go Jags!

Great win. Expecting to win is the kiss of death. Jags will give Brady all he wants next week.

Reasonable point, but different dynamics

between college and NFL. Harbaugh promised O'Korn he'd have an even shot at the UM QB job. Clearly, Harbaugh gave him that opportunity - probably to a fault. That's all you can ask for when you transfer in - a fair shot.

Peters.

"A rising tide lifts all boats."

Plus, Harbaugh loyalty.  Loyalty down begets loyalty up.  Hence, Peters' job to lose.

Is addition by subtraction,

still addition?

I am so sorry.

Be kind to each other. Things will get better. God bless you both.

Parker's BBQ

in Wilson, NC.  Best vinegar based BBQ around IMO.

I'm old enough to remember a time when

being a fan didn't include the invisibility of the internet, and the mindless, meaningless, and hurtful opinions that flow so carelessly from it.  I also remember when the "expectation reality" button didn't automatically reset every year to expectations for a 12+ win season - no matter what.  We always hated losing, but your team (and ALL its players) was always your team - win or lose.  Unfortunately, that middle ground position of being unhappy and frustrated over a loss, while still being supportive of the team, has now been surrendered to the internet trolls that scream the loudest and want instant gratification.

I too have tended to leave this site this year after a loss.  I handle losing ok, but this kind of fan disloyalty not so much.  Thank you, Brian, for taking the stand you have.  And thanks to John O'Korn for giving UM his best effort.  Go Blue!

Yep. Love the BGE!

No better way to grille or smoke.

Michigan is better than people think,

And Wisconsin is not as good as people think.

34 - 10 Michigan

Edit: Nice follow up MeanJoe.

Invictus.  Perhaps the greatest poem ever written.

Out of the night that covers me,

Black as the pit from pole to pole,

I thank whatever gods may be

For my unconquerable soul.

On Michigan, Beat Wisconsin!

+1 You win

the internet for today (as long as your wife doesn't find out).

Go get 'em, Karan!

Well earned success. Keep a goin'

Very, very sorry EYB.

I'm just seeing this having chosen to stay away from the negative insanity of this blog after the 2 losses. My heart just aches for you and your wife. May God be with you and your family. I hope you do come back. Will miss your contributions.

The other counterbalance to not redshirting

is that the kids are working hard and getting better, and therefore at some point some of them deserve to play. I think a too strict adherence to a red shirting mentality is counterproductive to team success and team morale.

That last bit

is one impressively long sentence.

Amen!

This AF game is one that Hoke likely loses. Harbaugh and Brown jack hammered enough fundamentals into the new guys to get the win, and to overcome a plethora of mistakes - both on offense and defense.

Thanks for the solid analysis and write up.

I pretty much agree with your take on Speight and I'm glad to see your support for him coming from true facts. I think he gets too little credit for his good plays. As just one example, his QB scramble early in the game for a first down. The OL is clearly a WIP. It's a bit ridiculous to expect that our OL's inconsistency in pocket protection would not make any QB a bit skiddish. My take is that Speight is often throwing the ball a beat or two before or after he should. He hasn't quite figured that part out yet, and the OL issues don't make that any easier. Brady's key strength IMO is his pocket presence - and Speight has shown flashes of that. In big games though, he too often drifts into, "Don't throw a pick" mode, which is Speight trying to honor Harbaugh's key expectation for QBs. He also seems to me to often "aim" his throws vs. letting it go. Overall, most of these negatives get fixed only with more confidence and more experience IMO - which is why I think Harbaugh continues to support him. And, count me among the "no booing" side. These are college kids, not pro athletes.

I think Filiaga also played.

.

Grant Perry seems to have gotten the message. He personally

handed the ball to the referees after each catch. Hey - it's the best I've got! I'm looking hard for ANY growth from week 1 to week 2.

I feel like I need a support group after watching

this game.

Can someone please tell me how to unwatch

this game?

Will be interested to see how Ulizio

grades out. Looked like he struggled.

What no drupal?

Yes, ^^^ cornerbacks still need a lot of work in pass coverage. CB depth also a concern.

Summer Festivus! I love it.

Merchandise that is missing the bar code price info drives me crazy.

That's an un 'common' mistake.

Nice catch.

Is that Ulizio lined up at RT

with the one's?

Hold out for the new

Toyota Supra.

To analyze this properly you also need to consider:

1. The weariness factor on the defense if they know that more often than not they are going to have to stop you on 4 downs vs. 3 downs to get the ball back, and

2. The fact that if as a coach you know you are going to be more prone to go for it on 4th, you also alter the play you'd otherwise call on 3rd down to more accomodating to a short yardage 4th down try if you don't make it on 3rd down.

^^^^ This. A savvy move by McElwain.

By taking this position he proactively shields himself from critics, covering his downside for the whole season and for the UM game which UF was/is going to lose anyway. He also sends a message to future players about what behavior is unacceptable under his watch at UF. McElwain is the winner with this brilliant, and unexpected, move to suspend these players.

What about our 'ole buddy at Arkansas,

Bret Bielema?   22 - 19 in four seasons, combined with a bad season this year, probably gets him the axe.  Those Razorback fans are dying to be relevant again.

Penn State's schedule looks to me like

they lose at least 2 games.  The middle part is a tough run with 4 of 6 games away (Iowa, NW, OSU, and MSU) and 2 home games against UM and Indiana.  The BIG East Division is tough for everybody though.

Not entirely accurate.

We could actually play ND this year.  Both teams go unbeaten and play for the National Championship, or perhaps a bit more likely, UM and ND meet in one of the bowl games.  Wouldn't that be a precious and unique opportunity to kick their butts!  Oh God, please make it so!

Sitting higher up

might be better vs. the lower rows given the way the exits work.

The headline in the Oxford newspaper nailed it.

"Escorted Out"

-1 for "Irregardless"

But I agree with everything else you said so I gave you a plus one.

Yeah, that behind the back stretch

was Rocky's trademark. I did it too!

Dick McAuliffe says hello.

He had the best batting stance ever!

A Rocky Colavito fan growing up.

I've always thought hitting four home runs in a game was one of the neatest stats in baseball. It's amazing to me how many people have done it. Colavito was one of them.
