The OSU Dirt - Can It Even Be Weopnized

Submitted by Bo Harbaugh on November 17th, 2023 at 1:57 PM

Many of you will poo-poo this post and don't think I'm credible, but I know for a fact as do most folks that are actual insiders at Schembechler Hall (which I am not), that UM has binders and folders full of dirt on mainly OSU and other programs from just the past decade. Some has indeed been reported and the NCAA just ignored it. I would love for Brian or Sam Webb or others to confirm, but my buddy who was formerly employed by the AD is not a bullshitter, has shared just what he knows...and I'm certain it goes much deeper than what he - an assistant staffer -  knew.

I'm disgusted we capitulated give the PI investigation and PR hit job led by OSU.  And yes, it was OSU that hired the PI.  The entire situation is fucking absurd for a level 3 violation.

1) OSU has been playing players for years, well before NIL

2) OSU continues to pay players (just for recruiting visits - CHEATING!, even under NIL). I have 4 names of commits from this fucking cycle they paid for visits (illegal!) and then promised very nice packages (legal). Let's just say Larry Johnson wasn't pulling in the 5 stars this cycle until Ryan Day asked for $15mil more in NIL - which was misappropriated towards visits.

I absolutely guarantee what happened with SIGNGATE!!!! would make other programs look like serial killers if all cards were put on the table.  Anybody that knows the inner working of NCAA football, at places like Bama, UGA, OSU, and are saying anything about UM right now, are absurd hypocrites, projecting like crazy, or have an agenda to push (CLICKS!).

Further, this is so fucking absurd as the NCAA has had a hard-on for Harbaugh since the satellite camps and then his comments on rev share.  It doesn't take a genius to see what this is about.

The NCAA which is supposed to help and promote college athletes does everything in their power to limit their financial upside and optionality, then shit on a coach and label him a "cheater" based on what is at most a level 3 violation.  ESPN, Thamel, etc getting clicks for the outrage machine and rival fanbases with soft shit teams crying like bitches.

I know with 99% certainty that UM has a ton of dirt on OSU.

The question now is, how to weaponize it and leave or at least damage the B1G. UM was sooooo far behind on this in the PR war, that their intel is essentially useless at this point.  Anything that drips out now will still pale in comparison to SIGNGATE!, and that is what's most frustrating here.

I know, for a fact, after the Rutgers, OSU, Purdue collusion was pushed out, and it barely moved the national media dialogue and narrative on UM, there was a sense of defeat in the athletic dept. about how leaking trash about OSU would help UM.  UM got beat off the field on this one, no other way to really spin it.

Downvote me to hell, I'm sure many don't believe what my buddy has shared at this point, but I am steadfast in the amount of dirt UM has on OSU, and the firms that UM hired to investigate what happen - helped uncover the Don Brown stolen signals issue, the Rutgers - OSU - Purdue collusion, as well as the fact that OSU continues to break bagging rules (confirmed) even after NIL. One of the firms is also conducting an internal investigation on UM's own "signgate" fwiw - as they attempt to get all the facts to cleanse the situation as much as possible.

I wish a real "insider" or Brian or Webb would confirm what I'm saying and more importantly, wish UM could find a way to weaponize the info.

Downvote me to hell, shit on my credibility - but I know what's been shared to some level

And...Fuck the B1G, Fuck the NCAA.

The dossier of doom doesn't exit.  There isn't some guy with a 3 hole punch compiling dirty laundry on other programs to save for a rainy day or whatever.  This binder thing was probably the biggest fucking joke to come out of this besides suspending JH.

I really don't care who informed on Michigan. We should live up to our own standards and fix what needs to be fixed. We can only control what we can control.

If Michigan has evidence of serious wrongdoing on the part of others, I hope they file a complaint and turn over what they have. If the NCAA chooses to investigate or not - same with the Conference - is out of our control.

I dislike the rationalizing that we and they should ignore our transgressions because others have done worse.

Nobody is saying to ignore our transgressions.  Break the rule, get the punishment.

What we are saying though is that the punishment should fit the crime.

The NCAA has set a clear and consistent precedent about this level of gamesmanship that they accept, over and over.

Now when we come along and break an administrative rule designed to cut costs it's a MAJOR SCANDAL!!

No, it's not.

It's a parking ticket, not jail time.

I can tell you with certainty the NCAA has been notified many time of Ohio State's transgressions and its been ignored for decades.  You can include most of the SEC, Texas, TAM, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Colorado and a good chunck of the Pac12.  All ignored, repeatedly over the years.  Its a gross gross sport sometimes.

When we beat Day by 23 without Harbaugh on the sideline it is going to be sweet.  Day's softness will be on full display.  That is the revenge I want.

I feel exactly like the lineman that gets punched in the face after a play and then retaliates with a little shove . . . and then gets the unsportsmanlike penalty while the instigator just laughs.

We are guilty of not knowing how to craftily break the little rules, while the other guys get away with breaking the big rules because they are good at it.

Fuck this.

The problem with burning “it” all down is that we are part of the “it”. I like watching college football. Mutually assured destruction affects my fall Saturday viewing habits. If there is a way to penalize OSU without starting college football Armageddon, I’m all for that. In the meantime, let’s beat their asses on the field.

Given the history of NCAA enforcement and Michigan's experience with the media circus, what reason is there to think that release of more dirt is going to make things any better?

Better to try to find a group of ADs / university presidents who think their athletic programs should focus on athletics, leave the NCAA, and create a new governing body that actually lives by a well-articulated set of shared principles.  Start with football, and then incorporate other sports down the road.

It’s always baffling to me in this day and age how people in our fan base still don’t understand that the B1G and NCAA have hitched their wagons to Ohio state.

We could have video evidence of Ryan Day punching Columbus area babies and nothing would happen, it’s just a fact.

Is this another insider take?  I will believe The Binders exist when I see them.  Until then it is more wishful thinking, which this blog and board and everyone else has been full of.

If there was a big binder 'o' dirt -- provable dirt, as opposed to just rumors and hearsay -- it would be out there already, dude. Use your brain.

Didn't we just hire one of the world's leaders in corporate espionage a couple of weeks ago?

Did people really imagine we'd have actionable results in ten work days? Especially since their first task is probably internal security, before they move on to the good stuff.

This is a very long game and the bad guys have a big head start. I think some patience is called for.

This is Q anon level bullshit.  Was “the binder” on Epstein’s jet?  Did Hunter Biden take it to the Ukraine?

Michigan has no magic binder full of proof that OSU is cheating.  This is fantastical thinking and total nonsense.  I’m sure they  have stories they’ve heard but if they had rock solid evidence that would have been deployed by now.

Michigan dropped the most relevant, on topic, and recent dirt they had on OSU specific to this scandal in an attempt to counter Signgate - The OSU-Rutgers-Purdue collusion to steal UM's signs.

This was as bad if not worse than Stalions amateurish spying efforts and was literally documented and endorsed by these 3 B1G institutions' staffs.  How the fuck is that not "cheating" or breaking the tenants of "sportsmanship"

This leak led to....womp, womp.  Nobody gives a shit.  Michigan bad and cheats, other schools stealing signs "the right way"

There's plenty of dirt amigo, the question is whether anybody gives as shit given the narrative and OUTRAGE! OSU and the media has managed to set towards UM.

If the biggest dirt was OSU Purdue collusion to share signs, then they don’t have a binder of dirt, they have a binder full of useless nits to pick.  OSU sold the conference on a nit pick as a scandal but Michigan will need more than an equivalently minor gripe.  And they don’t have anything more than what they’ve shown in some fucking binder.

It plays out the same way everytime there's a scandal. Saying someone else is doing something worse and getting away with it always always always backfires. Should it? Hell no. But critics will line up saying "oh here comes the cheater with their whataboutisms." Every. Time.

Michigan can leak info to the media about OSU and somebody will publish it. I don't know if they will with the new "we are going to play nice" strategy. The Rutgers, OSU, Purdue thing wasn't big enough to do anything. They have to truly go balls to the wall on this and soon if they want Harbaugh to coach here next year.

Downvote you? I want to be your best friend!  I bet most of what you're saying is true and I'm having a hard time disagreeing. Everytime Thamel's "source" (that idiot couldn't find a story unless it was spoon fed to him) dripped another minute detail and he breathlessly "broke" it I felt guiltier and guiltier. Then I took a step back and realized what you and many Michigan Men and Women are saying. We're bowing and scraping for a weird guy who wanted to Take Over Michigan Football doing some extremely worthless yet apparently illegal jaywalking. Meanwhile the usual top 5 programs are taking a break from bank robbery and assault to attack us.

FK everyone, and honestly fk the playoffs. I just want to conquer Ohio. Yet again.

I'm not an insider at UofM, so I don't know if any of this stuff really exists or to what extent, but I can say a few things that are obvious.

(1) Anything Michigan puts out now is seen as a desperate diversion attempt by everyone but Michigan homers. In fact, anything you put out is basically burned. So don't do it. It can't be Michigan that pushes allegations vs OSU or MSU.

(2) It's a long game. It would be a matter of a year plus to get something like this going. You need some proof to get the ball rolling and then it takes a ton of investigative work to solidify the case. We can say all day that OSU pays for visits and all that junk, but you need receipts and witnesses.

(3) Michigan was easily politically outfoxed due to the nature of the violation. Michigan's actions affected most teams in the conference and thus created natural allies for OSU in pursuing this. This conference is full of coaches who need excuses and you just handed them a nifty one. It won't matter to them that OSU would have done it purely out of self-interest. They're all 'injured parties'. Who's the injured party if OSU goes out of its way to get Michigan in NCAA trouble? Just Michigan, so don't count on support from anyone to get 'even'.

It sounds like the best way is to release this to the media perhaps after the season when this controversy dies, because it seems like releasing it now only causes it to get lost in the madness of the signgate stuff.

I highly doubt that Michigan wouldn’t lead with the biggest usable gun they had, which probably was the Purdue/Rutgers/OSU leak

If they are strategically sitting on other information, then it is a good likelihood that the same accusation can be thrown right back at themselves and don’t want to engage in friendly-fire.

Yeoman

November 17th, 2023 at 6:10 PM ^

It wasn't about size, it was about relevance. That particular leak spoke directly to the competitive advantage Michigan supposedly had, to the ease with which signs are stolen, and to the frivolity of the "safety of the players" garbage. And the proof was, literally, at hand.

ESPN and the NCAA love OSU so does the B1G. OSU is basically an SEC school up north. When Urban came up there he thought them how to cheat and get away with it. If UM tries to expose them it will fall on deaf ears because it will look like sour grapes.

Face it, Michigan doesn't know how to play with the big boys. We're too old school and think that if we play fair so will they.  There is no fair. Michigan is as dirty as anyone now in the court of public opinion.  But the University doesn't see that the football program is the face of the university and it should do everything in its power to promote and raise it to the highest level. They just don't care that much. The proof will be when there is no extension for Harbaugh and he leaves. And we go back to Hoke days again.

Obviously I'm late to this party and I'm not reading 170 comments.

I've said my piece on this before, so continue to disregard it, I suppose.

1) The Rutgers/OSU/Purdue thing absolutely did work. The Big Ten doesn't care because apparently the Big Ten has made getting rid of Harbaugh part of its agenda.

2) No one will ever fucking care that Urban Meyer paid for players. We can tear that shit out of our binder right now.

3) If we have rock solid proof on OSU currently paying players directly (so violating NIL) then yeah, that could do something, maybe. But we look stupid pathetic if we just throw it out there ourselves unless and until we prove definitively that OSU hired the PI firm that turned in Stalions. And on that note, we may as well hire a third party to deliver our info to the NCAA since apparently that's how it's done anyway. So yeah, what's the hold up with that, exactly? That is why people doubt this proof exists.
