For One Amazing Fall

Submitted by JMo on December 16th, 2021 at 10:50 AM

And for one amazing fall, our University of Michigan mighty Wolverines went 11-1, beat Ohio, won the Big Ten Championship, made the college football playoffs...

and MGoBlog became the single best site for Urban Meyer content on the entire internet.

In honor of this achievement, I have created a new site banner for when I assume Brian will soon be renaming this place UrbGoBlog.

Don't let all this Urban Meyer crap distract us from the fact that the 19th ranked recruiter in the country (as of right now) was coaching high school football less than a year ago.  Cheers to Ron Bellamy and many more years of him being great for this program and this university.

Great coaching, ie: Ron Bellamy, results in overachieving 3*. It's not always how highly rated these recruits are or aren't but how they will fit into the system and develop.

Let's not forget how well Mike Hart has done with the RB room. Then there's....I could name all of the assistant coaches who deserve as much credit to this fantastic football season.

Hail to the Victors!

I thought poem initially, then thought hype video with the Kenny Chesney "Boys of Fall" song.

When I feel that chill, smell that fresh cut grass
I'm back in my helmet, cleats, and shoulder pads
Standin' in the huddle listenin' to the call
Fans goin' crazy for the boys of fall

They didn't let just anybody in that club
Took every ounce of heart and sweat and blood
To get to wear those game day jerseys down the hall
The kings of the school, man, we're the boys of fall

Well it's, turn and face the stars and stripes
It's fightin' back them butterflies
It's call it in the air alright yes sir we want the ball
And it's knockin' heads and talkin' trash
It's slingin' mud and dirt and grass
It's I got your number, I got your back
When your back's against the wall
You mess with one man, you got us all
The boys of fall

In little towns like mine that's all they got
Newspaper clippings fill the coffee shops
The old men will always think they know it all
Young girls will dream about the boys of fall

Highjacking this unnecessary thread (We don't need another Urbs thread haha) to post a nice medley of my favorite 11W bad takes, Schadenfraude & cope:

(Disclaimer - any spelling/grammar errors (of which there are many) were taken verbatim from the comment)

- "They're always trying to make a villain out of Urban Meyer. He's a football coach, and up to this point a HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL one. All of these examples of his alleged "poor decision making" don't really amount to an ant hill's level of problems. Some drunken chick was grinding on him? Oh, that's an unforgivable sin that's never happened to any celebrity. Did he show up with her and leave with her? No. Let's leave that to Shelley to deal with. And let me be the first one to remind folks that Meyer wouldn't be the first man, athlete, coach, celeb to cheat on his wife... Look, at the end of the day, Urban Meyer is one of the greatest coaches of all time in college football. End of story. All this firing does is further make the Jags look like the total shit show that they are. You simply DO NOT fire a first year head coach, especially Urban Meyer. If I'm Meyer's lawyers, I'm getting ready my defamation and libel lawsuits right now. The list of horribles is really not that bad."

- "Typical with people like Urban, the things you love about them are the things you hate…Belien going to the Cavs is a bigger head scratcher to me…..why would you do that"

- "I just don't get the entire notion that you have to be comfortable and affirmed in every aspect of your job or when playing sports. This new generation expects it. If I played for Meyer I would total get what he was doing if he was giving me the cold shoulder or if he didn't know my name. If he yanked at my face mask or jersey. I don't look at this stuff as abusive. I mean we're playing football. I remember being a smart ass during film one morning and my HS coach told me he'd kick me square in my ass in front of everyone. Today, that gets reported and he gets fired. But,  I deserved it. I didn't go and give an interview about how my coach abused me, how toxic he wasdidn't love me or hug me, or tell me how special I was, or didn't give me what I'm entitled too."

- "Hey Buckeye fans, instead of casting Urban out, how about show a little support to a guy that brought you several years of unbelievable memories and good times."

- "Urban for NIL and transfer portal coordinator?... And consultant for beating SCUM"

- "I can't buy the he was too bossy with the players bit. He's not the only control freak coach in the NFL. In the end, you don't fire a coach because of snowflakes who don't like to be yelled at and expect to be reaffirmed every five minutes in the league. I mean, it also may not get results and then you fire him for that. But not after half a season.

I just think there was a lot of butt hurt, and enough of the media that disliked him (activist journalists) that they snowballed the guy. This was completely a PR fire by the owner and he had no choice since he's trying to rebrand the team and the media was making that impossible as long as Meyer was at the helm.

I'm not saying Meyer didn't make mistakes, but this was a sabotage through and through. I'm also very surprised at our fanbase. Man we turned on him faster than a Gator fan on jet skies. As far as was reported. He didn't do anything wrong at Ohio State other than probably be a jerk, didn't give warm hugs like the youngsters expect these days, and be old school. That may not be your cup of tea, but it's not something to hang a guy over. You can say he underperformed, which he did. But man, we have a serious mob mentality going on at Buckeye Nation that I am pretty upset about."

- "I love Urban. He rescued the Buckeye football program. Undefeated against the Wolverines. National Championship. He is made to be a college coach. He is an elite recruiter and motivator. Those skills don't translate to the NFL. Although the Jaguars failure is totally because they have the worst roster in the league."

- "I'm not defending 5he guy but the kicker claiming just yesterday he was kicked in practice during the pre season. Just doesn't make any sense, unless that story is made up and just being used as justification for firing with cause."

- "Does the Bucks have an opening for a Big Game/Michigan consultant available?"

- "To demonstrate fairness as an intellectual standard of thought, it would not be diar to say that Urban Meyer "groped" a woman, when it appeared that she was groping him."

- "You love him when he’s coaching your team and hate him when he’s not. Urban comes with a lot of baggage. "

- "Heal up coach!!! We don’t know all the facts about any of the BS in the press.  Take some time now to heal and to focus on family."

- "He can be on Zach Smith's podcast, right??"

The entire football world is shitting on Meyer today. Reading the comments in r/nfl, and fandom from all teams recognizing what a disgrace this guy has proven himself to be. The top comment in one of the posts is literally "Was Urban the worst coaching hire of all time?" I doubt it but the fact that he's in the conversation... wew lad

Two quit, two got fired. The only guy who made it back to CFB and was successful was Lou.

I agree that FSU will likely be the next and perhaps final stop for Urban - the ethics at that school are so low they played a guy accused of rape at QB just to win a NC.

Even OSU will not take him back - Luke is destined to coach there soon enough.

Given the mood many of us had during the B1G summer conferences in Indy and Urban with his new "toy" - it's incredible that we are in such as great place today.

Who's go it better than us? NO ONE!

I laughed. And I'm not ashamed about it either.

Ask for the tweet about the four coaches, I feel bad for poor Pete McCulley (even though I don't know a thing about him) for being grouped with The Three Schmucks: 'Moe' Meyer, 'Larry' Petrino, and 'Curly' Holtz.
