Ohio State opens as 30 point favorite against Michigan

This is the largest point spread in the rivalry since 1978, when the FBS and FCS split into separate divisions.

The previous largest point spread came in 2014 when the Buckeyes opened as 21-point favorites against the Wolverines. In other words, Harbaugh is leading one of the worst Michigan teams ever against Ohio State. Smoke them if you got them, boys.

Honest question: who is our third string QB? Can’t possibly be a scholarship player.

If we’re down to a walk-on at QB next week, you honestly just have to stop and laugh at the whole situation. The football gods seem intent on continually punishing Michigan and teaching them some lesson that they think we haven’t learned multiple times over throughout the last 20 years. I could not imagine a more divinely inspired way of the universe giving a big fat fuck you to Michigan football by throwing a walk-on QB into the starting role, in Columbus, against a top-5 bloodthirsty OSU squad out to bury you in the ground, when you’re already on the heels of a 2-4 season and you’re one of the worst teams in America.

Honestly I'm not sure we have learned the lesson all the way yet. We're six years in and some of our fans still act like we're something just because we used to be something.

Finally most people are coming around to the idea that this whole thing has been a sham. So many of us thought that wins were automatically coming just because what Harbaugh was at previous stops and that's not how it works.

Part of me wants this game to be played and for us to take the beating that is most likely coming in the hopes that it will expedite Harbaugh’s departure.

Anybody else feel this way?

Yes yes yes. I am not a huge weird stat guy. Some will always remember the books say worse loss of all time? To me, if it gets us Campbell then I will be the happiest fan on this blog. Who cares if we lose by 70 or 20+ like we have the last few years. A beat down is a beat down. Maryland not happening last week sucks too, each loss made the noise louder.

Jesus, do we need to go over this again? The 2014 team lost to OSU by 14. That team had infinitely more talent than this team, as shown by the 2015 and 2016 teams which were Harbaugh's best teams.

OSU is still a playoff team, we're 2-4 about to be 2-5, and will now lose by more than three scores for the third year in a row.

Want to explain how the gap isn't wider again?

You are now making the argument that the gap is wider in 2020 than in 2014, which I could believe. What ISN'T true is the gap was wider in 2019 than 2014, because it wasn't. Stop gaslighting and read your own OP.

If you think Michigan was making itself worse in 2014 with the side effect of... also making OSU worse, get yourself committed.

I think this is a psychology experiment to test Michigan fans’ support of Jim Harbaugh by measuring what percentage of us take the over.

OSU covers and then some. This is going to be an absolute bloodbath. Just in time for all of their starters to get healthy. I have no doubt Day is going to look to score 100, and his starters could be in for a while.

Worst loss in the history of the rivalry on the docket this weekend.

I am staying clear of this game from a betting perspective.  I hate betting against Michigan.  I did it once and felt like a dirty whore.  It was a miserable experience.  That said, we will need a couple handful's more than 30 points.

This game, if played, will not be any fun for Michigan coaches, players, alumni or fans.  I hope to the almighty heavens that I am completely wrong.  But I don't think so.

I am not emotionally attached this year.  I just see the line and bet accordingly.  I was right against Minnesota and wrong against Michigan State.  Didn’t bet every other game but bet a couple after the evidence piled up.

The evidence here says take Ohio state and win the money.  If the game is played, I probably will.  They need the win and lots of points, their offense will roll, no reason to believe Michigan can score more than 20 on a good day.  It was like betting on Bama yesterday.  Follow the evidence.

Yeah, I get it.  Making money via gambling is important for some.  But I bet as a side hobby, not to make a living.  My heart and soul is with Michigan and I know they will not cover that 30 point spread.  It's easy money but I refuse to take OSU.  On game day I will probably end up putting $5 on M +30.  Eh whatever....

I assume part of this line is due to the fact Vegas has no idea who's going to be available for UM against OSU due to COVID-19, to say nothing of the fact UM has a bunch of injured QBs to choose from.

In case anyone is curious, the all time worst horsefucking in the history of The Game was 86-0 in 1902 (and I believe that game was called early).  That was one of Fielding Yost’s better teams (still had a few stars from the previous year’s Rose Bowl winning team in school), but if Day is still truly pissed about Harbaugh running his mouth during the preseason conference call -and has any kind of a sadistic streak in him at all- I think OSU could top that.  Especially if Day is aware that Michigan still has the record for margin of victory.

They’ll take anything from us that they can.

This game will not likely be played. COVID report from U of M due tomorrow. I have more important things to do with my time, nine months into a pandemic and six days into another California lock down. I will take my family for a walk, stand in line to buy toilet paper, or do something else productive. This feels exactly like 2014.
