Ohio State's Tony Alford to Michigan as new RBs coach
Rumored all morning, confirmed by (sorry) Pete Thamel: https://twitter.com/PeteThamel/status/1767940264398582174
No, Benedict Arnold was like a traitor in training compared to Mattison!

Gotta love the Bo vs Woody vibes with this bluesy coconut balls hiring!!!

Someones gonna have to tell me if this guys any good at his job
Naturally Pete would have the scoop on this one given his extensive sources in Columbus

I mean he recruited TreVeyon Henderson who was a 5-star and got 3-star Miyan Williams most likely either a late round draft or UDFA onto an NFL roster. We could do worse.
I could recruit a 5 star rb if you gave me a blank checkbook too.
He got him to come back for one more year despite being horribly underutilized by his OC. THAT's a solid job of recruiting!

Alford being a good RB coach is important but I'll trust Sherrone's judgment on it, at least for now. More importantly, the ohio people are unhappy and angry! Big win!!!

Actually they are full of rationalizations that conclude this is OK. Kelly doesn't get along with him so it's OK. Kelly wants his own guy so it's OK. He underperformed on recruiting trail. Henderson is just OK. On and on it goes. Hope we run for 300 yards on their sorry asses in Columbus. Then let's see how the rationalizations sound.
I think they are right on Henderson just being ok but didn't OSU get a great RB in the portal this year? RB coach has to get some credit for that I think.
Hard to say with that pillow soft mentality Ryan's been instilling. He's a good recruiter (who isn't at OSU though?) and their backs are usually very good, as in at least performing at expected rates. Their O-Line has been lackluster for a few years now in the run game so it's hard to evaluate, but he's been there a very long time and produced a lot of NFL draft picks so...
I’m sure that yesterday he was considered a good coach. I’m also sure that today those same OSU experts consider him a has been who was probably breaking all the NCAA rules.

I was expecting a lot of "he sucks, we didn't want him anyway" at Eleven Warriors, but they're actually melting down a little.
And there's a lot of this:

They are taking it better than usual, quite honestly, if that's all they are wishing upon him.

Go on the cesspool X of Buckeye nation. Most are in meltdown. Others calling for Eddie George but sounds like he’s staying currently

There was a time when 'filthy f'ing program' might have caused me some angst. Today I embrace it.
They not only think they are going to kick our ass, but they think our team is going to suck. Just imagine if we bounce Texas and they lose to Oregon.
March 13th, 2024 at 12:13 PM ^
Welp, I guess it's time for Day to change signals again before Buckeye Scoop claims Stalionesque cheating deal. Nope, too late for that. Karma!
They had better start learning the news signs now. You know it takes Buckeyes a good 2-3 seasons to learn something new. And it will take a while to convert the new plays into crayon drawings that their players can understand.
They don't go there to play school.

A college football Twitter account just yesterday post a question if it's unreasonable to say the OSU running back room this is year is the best in history. OUch
March 13th, 2024 at 12:24 PM ^
Something seems up. I wonder if it’s a chip Kelly thing? Or maybe the Judkins and the rumor of him being a prime Donna was too much? I’m sure more is to come.

Regardless of this announcement, it's a stupid click-bait question. I'm 46 so my memory is limited to a certain time frame, but Barry Sanders and Thurman Thomas were in the same Oklahoma State RB room at one point. I also know due to my Browns fandom that Jim Brown and Ernie Davis were together at Syracuse though obviously Davis wasn't able to have NFL success due to his untimely passing.
They didn't know what it would mean at the time, but as freshmen Alabama had BOTH Derrick Henry and Alvin Kamara in their RB room (Kamara left after that season, went JUCO and then to Tennessee). Some others just off the top of my head:
Reggie Bush and LenDale White (USC)
Cadillac Williams and Ronnie Brown (Auburn)
Darren McFadden/Felix Jones/Peyton Hillis (Arkansas)
Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson (Alabama)

Corum, Edwards, Mullings
March 13th, 2024 at 12:58 PM ^
Wheatley, Legette, Johnson, Powers, Davis
Just as an FYI, Brown graduated from Syracuse in 1956, and Davis matriculated in 1958. They didn't play together.
I stand corrected, thank you. As a kid growing up, I always heard about the two of them both going to Syracuse but never bothered to look at the years.
They would have played together on the Cleveland Browns after Davis was drafted by them, but he was diagnosed with leukemia and never played.
Brandon Jacob’s needs to be with the Auburn backs

According to 11W, this is further evidence that the NCAA is about to do unholy things to Michigan including giving Moore a Show Cause which would instantly put Alford in the HC role that he can't get at OSU because Day is great and Michigan cheats.

Avatar checks out.
March 13th, 2024 at 12:17 PM ^
He must have gotten tired of recruiting and coaching good RB units just to see them completely underutilized in crunch time.
March 13th, 2024 at 12:25 PM ^
+1, Insightful
Maybe he got tired of watching the team punt on 4th down and when they did go for it, ran a jet-sweep.
March 13th, 2024 at 12:18 PM ^
I am enjoying 11Ws right now. "Why would he leave the best RBs room in America?" to go to...<checks notes> the best running game in America for the past 3 years. With 2 dynamite backs.
March 13th, 2024 at 12:24 PM ^
I took a peak myself, it's hilarious. They are melting down
March 13th, 2024 at 12:37 PM ^
Would be absolutely stellar if some of those backs decide to transfer to Michigan after Spring practice.
March 13th, 2024 at 12:25 PM ^
I heard he's like Fred Jackson, but younger!
March 13th, 2024 at 12:26 PM ^
Not to be the Debbie Downer, but didn't OSU's running game underperform over the past couple seasons?
March 13th, 2024 at 12:31 PM ^
Part of it may be they became more and more basketball on grass versus under Urban they would smash more. (Much like our talented Wrs but we just don't throw them the ball much)
More like passing gas offense
March 13th, 2024 at 12:32 PM ^
i think some of that had to do with line play and them being a pass first offense
March 13th, 2024 at 12:35 PM ^
WallyWallace and MaizeGVBlue said what I was about to say. A lot of factors outside the RB room have contributed to the lack of production... a lack of production compared to Michigan anyway, which may not be a fair comparison.
Also Henderson would be a first round pick ten years ago.
March 13th, 2024 at 12:28 PM ^
Took a peek at 11 Warriors and apparently he he was one of a few Assistants who was NOT offered an extension at the end of the year, so there may be some spite here, which is fine with me.
Reputation as an excellent recruiter, poached Mike Weber from Detroit and of course Elliott, Henderson and most recently Judkins from the portal. Spices up the rivalry for sure.
Tony Alford: "Fuck Ohio "
March 13th, 2024 at 10:07 PM ^
Ezekiel Elliott was recruited by current Temple HC Stan Drayton.
There were some post-bowl game rumors that Alford, who was in a contract year, was unlikely to be retained. Unclear why, but he was a little bit of an inconsistent recruiter where he came up empty-handed for a few seasons (i.e. Bijan Robinson to ironically Stan Drayton at Texas).
March 13th, 2024 at 12:29 PM ^
Sam confirmed it:
OSU already started spring practice, LOL.

Pete is sorry
March 13th, 2024 at 12:32 PM ^
Will Day try to hire Hart in a reciprocal move?
March 13th, 2024 at 12:39 PM ^
i cant see hart ever going there. even if he felt scorned, which by all indications, this has nothing to do with it
I suspect that the Hart departure had more to do with health issues than coaching issues.
