No Pep on Oakland’s Staff

Submitted by DCGrad on
The Raiders just announced their new staff under Gruden and Pep wasn’t on it. I’m not sure if he had other offers but it’s safe to say that Oakland is not in play.

...an NFL OC/AHC and coached under Harbaugh at Stanford.  Drevno coached with Harbaugh both at Stanford and SF.  He isn't going to put those guys in the street, because he doesn't want to leave it lingering.

There are plenty of NFL opportunities still out there and Harbaugh will give them every opportunity to find one, before simply letting them go.

It's a matter of respect, for guys that he has coached with, at multiple locations.  If homelessness is what you took from my comment, that's not the way it was intended.  Some of these coaches are still recruiting kids that they have relationships with, why the rush?  If they leave, more than likely, it'll be to the NFL.  There are a lot of NFL positions that are in limbo, pending the completion of the playoffs and Super Bowl.

I guess I don't understand the instant gratification mindset of some of the fanbase.  If Harbaugh wants to wait and allow those guys to pick up with other NFL teams, instead of "firing" them, I don't see anything wrong with that.

first off hes not even eligible yet, and tom fricken brady wouldnt help either pep's pass game concepts, hey its 3rd and 3 every body run fly routes and 2 out 4 of u have option routes to turn around at 15 yards let the qb read coverage...what a joke

As a diehard Raiders fan I am SO happy that Gruden passed. As a Diehard Michigan fan I am still REALLY hoping that some nfl or college team hire Pep for something. Can’t deal with play action on 3rd and 13 anymore.

blah...

not surprised...not really sure what Pep has accomplished without Luck (literally and figuratively)...

Stuck with him I am afraid...just hoping Year 2 will have improvement simply based on repetition of the same nomenclature and playbook.

If Pep indeed stays I won’t get mad now. I’ll trust Harbaugh, but I reserve the right to get really angry if things in the passing game don’t improve.

Mild improvement from QBs, WRs, OL, coaching and chemistry would result in one decent step forward, which could step safeties back 2 yards and free up the running game, which could free up the PA pass, and so on and so forth.

Remember that 2016 offense was a top 10 scoring offense in the college football. It easily fell apart, and putting it back together isn't impossible.

Houston got more out of O'Korn as a freshman than Michigan did despite him being in the system for 3 years. When you have the #105 total offense in the country with the type of talent Michigan brings in on a yearly basis compared to most schools, sorry, that's coaching.

I really have no opinion yet on Drevno or Pep.  I trust that Jim can hire the right people, and I also am not sure what either of them could possibly have done with what they had last year which was sub par for Michigan standards with the O-line, wide receiver and QB play well basically the whole offense.

I really would like to see what they can do with an actual quarterback that is not a backup (O'korn and Peters), and a healthy Tariq and 2nd year DPJ.

I don't blame them exclusively for last year's results, but I think the playcalling was boring, predictable, not tailored to the personnel at hand, and not innovative in any way.  This was not a one year outlier, so in my opinion, the team would benefit from replacing at least Drevno, and hopefully Hamilton, too.

Does this make for the,”I️ hate Pep, why is Drevno still here meme? This is such a tired thread! You’ll get the same people, plus some other intelligent posters that say that they can’t wait til they leave based on someone else’s take on our coaches! Oh well, not only does the whole Big Ten referees committee hate us! We hate us, too! Great post and I’m sure I️t was meant to be loving in nature.
