The first string of this…

The first string of this defense has the makings of a top 20 defense that’s especially dangerous if our Offense gets out to a lead. Hill and Ambry can play lock down coverage and at least one of Hawkins and Dax will be a good second safety. Then with a lead we can put Uche out there and could move Paye to DT to get some serious pass rush.

However, an injury at any position except for DE puts us in serious trouble. If Ambry isn’t ready for Big 10 play or if anyone else gets hurt I could see this defense really struggling.

That’s just gross climbing…

That’s just gross climbing. I’d much rather just go the one of the other 8000 meter peaks and get a much more rewarding experience.

But does he think Dylan McCaffrey should start over Shea?

Blind squirrel, he uses the first hint of any rumor (even if it’s from a random board poster) and pitches it as inisider info. Some rumors do have truth to them (Aubrey Solomon) but some are totally garbage and essentially libel.

You’re right that Brown…

You’re right that Brown needs to make some coverage adjustments. But the problem defensively yesterday was the running game.

Getting tired of people starting threads to share their snowflakes, but at least this one is correct.

Hoban isn’t D1 so they aren’t playing Ohio’s best regularly. However they did beat Ignatius and Wayne this year. Those are two traditional powers.

This would seem to be it…

This would seem to be it. Bama must have used some kind of “evidence” to make it seem like Harbaugh’s future at Michigan was up in the air. Michigan has just visited him and told him it’s fine so Dax feels misled by Michigan.

Then Harbaugh indicates he is clearly staying and now Dax feels misled by Alabama.

That said there are two weird things.

1. It’s one thing to decommit, it’s another to flip. He clearly has interest in Bama

2. The fact he wasn’t going to sign during the early period indicates he wasn’t 100% ready to pull the trigger on Michigan.

Saquan Barkley, Jonathan…

Saquan Barkley, Jonathan Taylor, and that pretty good IU freshman we’re all Rutgers admits. They may suck at keeping them but Rutgers has a pretty good track record with Rb recruits (at least the decommits ).

This. Find something your…

This. Find something your passionate/interested in and really develop that, no matter what it is. That will set your application apart and make you “one of a kind.”

Miami did lose to Rutgers

Miami did lose to Rutger

Its just like every year I assume. UM will send out acceptances to EA applicants by xmas. The rest of the kids will get deferred and some won't get a true decision until late spring, which will most likely be a rejection.

Obviously you want to…

Obviously you want to exploit matchups on a game by game basis, but I'm saying that generally Poole should be getting a few more looks than Matthew per game. Sample size is small and we'll see as the season goes on the stats will be more reliable. But usage is something that should totally be adjusted. A major turning point last season came when Beilein gave MAAR a greater share of the usage.

I also don't want it to seem like I am trashing Matthews, he's a great player. It just seems like (based on a small sample size) that he might be more effective at lower usage.

Looks like Brian made this…

Looks like Brian made this exact point in Basketbullets lol. Well here's some detail I guess.

Also: Yay I had a good take!

Don’t blame Dudek, the…

Don’t blame Dudek, the reason is we have had poor finishes the last 3 years. The reason we didn’t suffer the first two years was that we could still sell hope. Now we can’t.

I felt this way 100% after…

I felt this way 100% after the OSU game. But OSU has given us one last opportunity with Meyer’s retirement. If Harbaugh beats Day you get an “OSU isn’t the same without Urban” narrative. But if Day beats us at home next year, it’s over.

Doesn’t make sense and won’t…

Doesn’t make sense and won’t happen. What would be the incentive for either side? The Big 12 is certainly better than the B10 West and that switch would make it extremely difficult for any team to get a playoff bid, even if they expanded the format.

Edit: The only incentive is for Jim Delaney and the almighty dollar

Simpson's uber competitive,…

Simpson's uber competitive, and when a team disrespects like that he wants to prove them wrong, I get it. Beilein will fix it.

We needed this win. If we’d lost the Chris Collins all on fours gif wouldn’t be funny. I wouldn’t want to live in a world like that.

This was very good for us,…

This was very good for us, they exposed some weaknesses that we can work on.

1. Davis may not be as adequate as we thought he was if Teske gets in foul trouble.

2. Z is a liability if the defense decides not to show any respect to his shot (nor should they). Have to figure out a way around this.

Johns and DDJ are possible solutions to these. And most important we got the W!

Judging Pep off OSU in a…

Judging Pep off OSU in a vacuum is difficult and ignorant. The 39 points are a bit deceiving. But at the same time Gentry had three devastating drops, that’s not on Pep.

My complaint is that over the season I didn’t think we were maximizing our offensive potential, particularly in the passing game. I like Brian and everyone on the board figured that we were holding back to keep Shea healthy and that they had an “extra gear” they could turn on for OSU.

Turns out there was no extra gear. Pep isn’t bad, but there are definitely coordinators who could do more with that  offense.

Most of the people who hate…

Most of the people who hate Pep were probably the same ones who thought he was a great coach after watching the Amazon Doc. They just have dumb opinions for dumb reasons.

I’m imagining Teske taking…

I’m imagining Teske taking his son bird hunting and yelling at him to finish the animal off.

Very clear to me.

I would love to see data…

I would love to see data that correlated depth to tournament success, I can't imagine it is a major factor. Kansas had literally zero good bench players last year and made it to the final four. Villanova (who beat them) was the best team in the country and if I recall they only ran a 7 man rotation (granted it was STACKED).

Even Michigan last year only ran 7 guys during their tournament run. Maybe 7.5 if you include Simmons.

I do remember seeing one…

I do remember seeing one current player at Michigan driving a very nice car. I don't know enough about cars to know how much it was worth, but I know that its nicer than any car someone that age normally drives. I don't take it as definitive proof players get incentives, but it raised my eyebrow a bit, but I don't have a problem with it either.

I do agree that we probably don't go anywhere near the SEC in terms of incentives.

People don't support paying…

People don't support paying players because it might solve the bagmen problem. They support it since it is the right thing to do.

2. I love John Beilein, but…

2. I love John Beilein, but comparing basketball to football isn't quite accurate. In college basketball there is more reward in developing underrated talent. Look at Wisconsin, they've made final fours in basketball by developing underrated guys. They do a great job as well in football, but its been shown over the years those teams have a ceiling when they go up against the Ohio State's of the world.

The second reason for this is one and dones. If those guys stayed had to stay three years the top recruiting teams would be unstoppable (except MSU... see Bridges, Miles.)

3. I completely agree with this. I think there is a certain baseline that all players who play at major schools are incentivized. The real reason that Bama, OSU, and Clemson get the best players is that they have championship rings. However some schools (Ole Miss) go way to far above that baseline and get busted

With this team it will be…

With this team it will be whoever can defend at the level Yaklich expects from his players.

While we’re not a deep team I also don’t think our rotation has any holes so I don’t think it’s urgent to get any of them on the court.

I actually don’t blame Don…

I actually don’t blame Don Brown too much for what happens yesterday. What I do hope is that he learns from it and adapts his defense. Two things I blame him for:

1. Playing Gil over Ross

2. Not trying to blitz more when it was clear the game plan wasn’t working.

Things you can’t blame him for:

1. OSU turned what we thought was a strength (Brandon Watson) into a major liability. It’s extremely tough to adapt to that.

2. Our star ends got zero pressure. You have to expect Gary, Uche, and even Chase to get something, this is reason #1 why we lost.

3. The injuries to Chase, Bush, and Long didn’t change the outcome of the game. But they made it a lot worse.

4. OSU was just a flat out bad matchup for this defense, and they’re really good. They were always going to score some points.

To clarify to those confused…

To clarify to those confused, Chase retweeted this last night.

edit: beaten to it

To my best knowledge

To my best knowledge

Edwards: Outlook seems better than expected. Has feeling, probably a concussion

Chase: Upper body injury, X ray and CT scan negative so no bones broken. No status update for next week though.

Hudson: Returned, looked a little slow running after one guy but should be all good for next week.

Metellus: Came back and made a nice play.

Bush and Long: Both looked like cramps to me.

JBB: Came our early with prior injury. Harbaugh says he will be evaluated during the week. The fact he tried to give it a go today is a good sign imo.

edit: I’ve seen people saying Solomon got hurt. I didn’t see it but others might know how severe.

I feel terrible for Felton Davis, but MSU got what was coming to them for not putting a tarp on the field during the delay. Obviously it's impossible to know whether it would have made a difference but MSU made that field unnecessarily dangerous for the players when they didn't put a tarp down.

That’s definitely not good news for Gary. Luckily we have a bye next week but if he isn’t back by Penn St. I think we may have seen the last of him.

What a difference a week makes, last week I posted a thread on this and everyone was like “yeah!”, now you get negged.

Honestly though the short passing game was far better this week, including a great  slant by Perry to get a conversion on third and ten.
