It sure is looking like it.

What I'm really concerned with is Juwan's recruiting focus and roster management. You recruit Collins and then turn around and recruit a kid like Dug right away for PG. How stupid can you be?

Not recruiting a couple of shooters either is terrible, SMH.

San Diego Mick is going to recruit and coach the team in the tourney because he knows more than a person who played 20+ years at the highest level and he’s smarter than Martelli and all of the assistants.  Book it, N I T MICK

OSU and likely Indiana in BTT. Gotta win 1 of those 2 or they are out. Win @ OSU would be great. If They lose to OSU, beat Indiana, lose to Wisconsin, the wait on Sunday will feel long.
Sad the stakes were this high tonight and no energy first half. 2nd, played better/harder, just lots of mental mistakes. 5-6 passes are some of the dumbest I have seen in a long time. Lots of misses around hoop. Jones and Diabate were extra bad tonight.

It was always an NIT team

Next year will be worse

But hey....our head coach promises to never physically attack opposing coaches again so we're good

What's everyone's odds Diabate or Houston leave? I don't think either have shown enough to go but I could see Diabate getting drafted off raw potential. I don't see Houston being naturally athletic enough to go pro without a great season. I say 85/15 Houston stays and 60/40 Diabate stays.

Also, do we look for a PG who can score and a big 5 in the portal this off-season?

Beat OSU this weekend and they’ll be in. Lose and it will get tricky without a win or two in the conference tournament.
OSU hasn’t been playing well either, so they should have a good shot at winning.

It’s going to be a challenge for Michigan to get that NCAA bid, but judging by The Bracket Project’s Bracket Matrix as of March 3, the Wolverines were considered to be in the NCAA by 107 of the 112 bracketologists listed there, even though several of them had Michigan among the “Last Four In” and playing in a First Four game in Dayton.

The Wolverines' yo-yo results over the past eight games (alternating wins and losses) doesn't look great, but both Michigan State and Indiana have been worse during that stretch and Rutgers is only 6-6 in past 12 games, despite those four consecutive wins against ranked teams.

Thanks to a strong NET ranking in the 30s, beating Ohio State and winning their first Big Ten Tournament game should solidify Michigan’s NCAA bid. The Wolverines can finish no worse than 10-10 in the Big Ten regular season and 16-15 if they were to lose to Ohio State and Indiana in the tournament in what could be an NCAA First Four play-in game.

As disappointing as it would be to miss the NCAA Tournament, playing in the NIT (IF they decided to accept a bid) would give Michigan a chance to play as many as three more home games, depending on the NIT seed. Then, if Juwan Howard and Phil Martelli were to lead the Wolverines to an NIT championship at Madison Square Garden, that might be a nice way to end the season.

This was going to be a tough game either way, but the quick turn around from a rivalry game was not ideal.  Looked slow and tired from the jump.
Glad they get the Sunday game against OSU to get an extra days rest.

Let's hope whatever happens the balance of the year, the team can learn and grown from this unexpected year in which adversity reigned supreme. Good luck to them the rest of the way. Support the team whether it is in the NIT or the big dance!

It was always looking like a schedule loss (3rd game in 5 days). No biggie y'all

Let's see how OSU game goes as well as BTT. Still hopeful high NET avoids NIT

Wolverine who say NIT!

They came close, but barring a win over OSU and good showing in the conference tournament I fear the NIT will be their destination as well.

This team hasnt been consistent all year, which is frustrating.

If somebody cant hit a 3, HD gets boned. HD is the only constant on the team along with Eli (who is a great role player)

Moussa is going to be very good, but I dont think he sticks around. Houston is raw as hell, and struggles to make a layup. When he's on, hes money...but again he's super raw. I hope he comes back along with Moussa.

One of my biggest frustrations is the team just makes everything look hard. No open lanes, passes are all over the place? They just seem off a lot more often than not.

Ive said it all season though. Their bench does not have the presence it did last year. If they make any tournament they have to take pressure off of HD.

"Not recruiting a couple of shooters either is terrible, SMH."

I mean, wasn't Caleb Houstan supposed to be an elite shooter?  The only let-down there has been that he's been a bit of a freshman.  Even still, he's shooting 40% on 3s in conference and his full-season (37.3%) is basically on par with "elite shooter / NBA guy" Duncan Robinson's senior year (38.4%).  Sometimes freshmen just play like freshmen.  Even Zack Novak, who finished as a pretty good shooter, shot 32.5% in his FR/SO seasons.  Trey Burke was 34.8% in his FR season.  THJ was 36.7% in his.  Jordan Poole was 37.0%.  Caleb will probably be around next year and I'd expect him to make a major leap in year 2--coupled with some defense and slashing, he could break out as an elite player in the conference next year.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that an account that's accumulated just 55 points in 9 years is named after one of the 20th century's most notorious psychopaths.

Houstan's been a bit of a (HS) senior in a college freshman's body. Remember, he reclassified and skipped his senior year of high school, which should be right now, and came to Michigan a year early. That's the opposite of Hunter, who's a year older than the average sophomore.

Guess who has the #1 strength of schedule out of 358 teams (per Sagarin*)?

Yup

It's UM.

If the NCAA were rational, UM would be in.

*Other polls may differ (the NET rating is #6) but all of them will have UM near the top, especially after the OSU game and the BTT.

I have a nit with your lower-casing of NIT.    Consistent with your low hopes for the team, I suppose.

If they end up there, fine.  But competitors don't set goals downward.
