Fluff is abundant, but the pre-draft articles had the Pats "all over" him, since they hired Bielema, and Fat B has been on record multiple times calling him the best lineman he's coached. Still, fluff. Time will tell.

his measurables look pretty good - 6'5", 300+ lbs, and allegedly no sacks given up in the SEC.  as a former OL guy myself, i am biased but i think with a good OL  you can make so many other mistakes/chances/fill-ins and be fine.  i also am of a mind that i think centers usually  are the smartest guys on any football field.  so add a brain to the brawn and you might have a pretty good pick.

Ill admit it isnt the most glamorous pick, but I am happy with it. I am all for protecting Stafford and maybe this will help our run game down the road. To anyone that is complaining about this pick... I think this is an improvement over the years and years of first round busts we are used to in Detroit.

Of course Detroit takes a center...

can't let Stafford get hurt right?

Meanwhile the horrendous defense is again ignored. In a division with Aaron Rodgers and Kurt Cousins this does nothing to defeat them. Bob Quinn is a buffoon. Hires his chum as HC, signs no one of note in FA, and wastes a first on a center. Millen-level incompetence.

Every position can be found in later rounds. I’d bet a lemon that first round centers tend to be better than most first round position groups, on average. Partly because of your bias — if a team drafts a center that high, they’re pretty sure he’s going to be good. I get the market value arguments about the draft, but this wholesale disregard of certain positions in certain rounds is crazy. Maybe you don’t take a center in the top 10, because you can trade down in the 20s and get the center you want. But taking the arbitrary destination between 32-33 as some important marker is illogical. Plus, if the kid is the next Mawae or Mangold, anyone who complains about his draft spot is wrong. What matters is if he’s good.
