New Head Coach Please
New head coach please. Thank you for trying Mr. Howard. This is the only route and it needs to happen now. Interim is fine to finish out but start the official search tomorrow morning. If not, I got nothing.
It's time. JUWAN NEEDS TO GO!
I agree with the statement, BUT I do not trust Warde to make the hire. If another year of Juwan leads to Warde being let go sign me up. If Warde fires Juwan and fumbles the hire were fucked another 4 years.
Every hire Warde has made the team is worse. I trust Warde to make another horrible hire.
I literally don't know what you're talking about. He hired Naruto. He kept Harbaugh. He hired Sherrone Moore.
As far as I can tell, the only hire Warde has made that hasn't worked out is Juwan, and ... let's be honest, there was pretty much massive approval for the hire when it was made.
Damn, man. I know people on this board, for some reason, don't like Warde, but it's silly how people here refuse to acknowledge the things he has done well.
(Also, it cracks me up that Ono, the regents, etc. — you know, all the people who actually work with Warde and know the behind-the-scenes things that go into his decisions — clearly approve of him. But we, the fans, who literally know nothing about what's going on behind the scenes, are incredibly confident that we know how badly he's doing ... and no number of national championships or Frozen Fours are going to convince us otherwise!).
Naruto isn’t a good hire his teams play terrible structure wise. Baseball worse, softball worse, hockey worse, and basketball worse. He sucks at hiring.
Harbaugh stayed because Harbaugh wanted to. Had zero to do with Warde.
Warde is a clown and shouldn’t be in charge of a Lego build.
I’ve see numerous BOD’s, presidents, and CEO’s make terrible decisions. Just because you’re in a role doesn’t mean you’re good at it.
All his "good hires" are internal. I hope you're not suggesting promoting from within?
Warde is the only AD in recent history with a natty. Just sayin…
I can see the argument, but my view is never fire someone unless you are confident you have someone better lined up. I’m not sure Warde can be confident of that.
I share this sentiment. We may not get another Beilein, but we have to take some kind of action and attempt to improve from this mess. Love Juwan forever regardless, it's just not working, he's not a college coach.
Amen.
Love Juwan and all his passion/commitment to Michigan. But I actually think he may be to “caring” of a coach. His players know that Juwan loves the university and loves to win. But they also know he won’t, in my opinion, bench a kid who is struggling. I wish for an easy answer but there is none. 🤷♂️👨🍳
Juwan won’t be coach next year. It’s just a matter of when it happens.
What makes you feel so confident? As long as Warde is the decision maker, obviously the obvious isn't so obvious otherwise, it would be obvious, which it obviously isn't.
Sorry not down on Warde like you are. I think with football Jim had more to do with lack of certain stuff than Warde did. I understand the hockey situation was pretty dumb.
Warde basically ignored an attempt by Juwan to fight his S&C coach while supposedly under a "no tolerance" policy. This situation is pretty dumb.
You know he "basically ignored" it, do you? Because he didn't issue a public statement condemning the head coach of his own basketball program? Because so many university athletic directors go public with their criticisms of their own coaches?
Just because Warde didn't fire Juwan on the spot doesn't mean he "basically ignored" it. You have no idea.
I do know, because Juwan is still our coach. You do know how a no/zero tolerance policy works, right?
The last two years have gone from bad to worse. Sometimes things just don't work out and this is one of those times. There is no justification for Manuel to give Juwan another year. The program has reached embarrassment stage.
Between the results, Juwan's temper issues and now Sanderson leaving after a long, successful stint working with the program maintaining a status quo would be hard to justify.
I say this with no malice of any kind towards Juwan. His tears of joy when he got the coaching job were very real, the tears of someone who loves his alma mater. I am sure the pain he feels is deeper than ours. Having said that, change is necessary.
57 years since they finished last in the conference and perhaps the worst team in my lifetime. Move now before the program becomes a perpetual embarrassment.

Shocking no Ellerbe team was worse
What team was the one that went to Duke and was down 140-2 in the first 12 minutes?
God. Ugh. Wasn't it 38-2? That's what my memory is telling me. THANKS
Keeping Howard as coach is immensely more damaging to the program than removing him immediately and having and interim.
I think this is an important point. Like how do you justify it to anyone? Who would sign up to play for him at this point?
That's a fan's take. I personally like cheering for a school that doesn't fire coaches in the middle of the season, especially when doing so might piss off some of the players we'd like to stick around for next year. Waiting another week or two is not "immensely" more damaging than doing it now. Let things run their course, and let's see what happens when the season ends.
For what it's worth, I meant keeping him after the season is way worse. I don't think there's any point in firing him now with 10 days to go.
It's really hurt Ohio State to fire their coach in the middle of the season. /s
Juwan used Michigan perfect for his family. Take your money and go now.
Cmon. He tried. Didn't work out. But he did favor his kids. Things went south when he wouldn't bench Jett.
Yeah he tried alright. Created a culture of dysfunction based around his kids but didn’t have any real upper class leaders anymore to even it out. Literally made his awful son a captain. That’s hilarious
I’d like to go further on the he tired stuff. He really didn’t. He made summer work optional with Sanderson. Thats where it all started with Sanderson. Kids weren’t working with him like they have in the past instead they went on their own.
This is common knowledge with high school coaches in this state.
BTW it gets worse next year with recruits. Kid from GR isn’t worth two nickels rubbed together and Christian Anderson won’t help a thing at his size
Its become as bad as Amaker taking Jerret Smith and K’len Morris
Sounds as if you're plugged in to Michigan high school ball. Are the vibes around the Michigan program, in the eyes of D-1 hopeful in-state players, really that bad, beyond the obvious "Michigan sucks this year"? I'm curious to know... I'm not plugged in at all.
What?
It saddens me to agree but the time has come. It’s not going to work. This is very different than the Harbaugh Covid season. The team is bad in many areas that go way beyond anything to do with talent.
Howard also doesn’t have Harbaugh’s track record of success as a Head Coach.
This was never the same as Harbaugh. I swear fans can make up some crazy false equivalencies
Wait, I thought Warde was the one who was floating that comparison?
There's a reluctance to etch this in stone as a failure by some. Understandable since I guess we would all rather have untarnished memories of Juwan as Fab Five captain. However, it is a failure and we'd do best to move on. I doubt Warde will be proactive here. I am expecting another year.
I’m not down on Warde like everyone else is. If he doesn’t get rid of Juwan I probably will get to that point with the rest.
This is more a fear that fans have because it was leaked by members at the roundtable or through an article on here that Juwan would get reset year like Harbaugh.
Not sure where you're getting this as a fan pushed narrative.
My fear is the $3 mill he's owed and how cheap Warde is but I know nothing.
Yeah, it’s more like Amaker. We were hoping it would work out but it didn’t. We hired Beilein and he fixed the mess prior to Juwan tearing it back down.
I remember when Amaker got fired. I was in Chicago for St Patty’s day Saturday. Our large crew was ecstatic
FWIW Amaker was brought in to run a program cleanly and buff out the tarnish of NCAA sanctions.
He did that and, frankly, got screwed out of at least one tourney selection (went on to win the NIT that year, if I recall).
Amaker wasn't a resounding success, but he also didn't torpedo the program like Howard has.
Amaker's program was also under sanctions, or the threat of sanctions, for most of his tenure.
Yep.
I still remember going to the Michigan State game in 2003 - the program was under sanction and wouldn't go to a post-season tournament, yet the team 1) beat Sparty for the first time in years and 2) rattled of a 13-game win streak.
That takes a coach with a ton of belief and heart and a team who believes in greater things. We had it in spades in this program for over a decade; now it's entirely absent.
Or ADs...
Fire the ringmaster of this clown show. We're always so fucking slow at everything.
it's fine.
really. it's fine. next year, that'll be the year.
Yep, the year they win less than 5?
next season (2024-2025) will be the year they finally catch up to the football team for victories in january of this year. see? it's fine.
Going to be amazing when Northwestern and Nebraska have 80% of home game tickets and Warde says next February "I haven't even thought about it...." as he smiles about his 7 year extension.
Should’ve fired him after the Sanderson incident.
