This will be the thread for snowflakes about the overall coaching performance.

By biggest complaint was going for the 2-point conversion up by 12 in the 3rd quarter. I never support going for two until end-of-game situations. That's when you know whether you actually need the second point, or not. Until then, take the easy ones.

When a team fails to convert, more often than not, that lost point comes back to bite them, as it almost did here.

Putting JJ out there was highly questionable. I'm not against putting him in with a set of plays in general, but what makes him successful is teams have to account for everyone from the receivers to the QB because he can make every throw and also run. In that situational, there's no threat of pass so they can just tee off on the QB keeper.

A lot of kickers prefer one hashmark or the other.  Moody tends to put a slight draw on his kicks.  As a righty, it's not hard to see him being more comfortable from the left hashmark.  But the kid is really good and he was going to make that kick wherever it was snapped from.

They were good. I'm not quick to say "there's something different," but this is the kind of game that could easily have been lost, and the team was ready.

Not a huge fan of how seldom they attacked the edges and some other call issues, but the staff made the choice to throw a lot and it paid off.

The critiques and finer observations can wait until I sober up.... right now shoot the Harbaugh-Hutchinson postgame yell straight into my veins! The passion is definitely back to 2015-16 levels!!

If Cade can't run the zone read and the coaches are dead set on running it, they have to go to JJ. I like Cade and think he's played pretty well, but wtf are we doing!?

It went a hell of a lot better than our last trip to Nebraska did.

They came back from Cade's interception and the touchdown that came on the next play. It was definitely closer than I would have liked, but they took advantage of a break at the end and pulled it out. I'll take it, and I hope they fix some of the issues we saw for Northwestern and Michigan State.

I am also really fucking certain that Nebraska would like to replay the Illinois game again.

I'll admit, I wanted UofM to pass on that 3rd and 6, thinking that a 1st down means we run the clock down for an easy field goal.  Also if we didn't pick it up, Nebraska had a lot of time so 1 time out isn't a huge deal.

Glad to be wrong.

This was my only complaint. Nebraska clearly had that play snuffed out if you look at how their ends and linebackers played it. Both the give and the keep were dead. Perfect opportunity for a RPO. That being said, I don’t mind the conservative call that much. Just hope they add some more wrinkles into the game plan for JJ in the future.

Mostly agree - a serious attempt at a 1st down and sealing the game is probably worth more than the last TO in that situation. OTOH the lack of a timeout is probably the reason they run a desperation fade on 4th and 10 that Dax breaks up, rather than a play that might actually have a chance of working.

Nope. No pass. I honestly would have preferred a run between the tackles, which Nebraska throws everything at but has at least a small chance of going further than the line and in the meantime is completely safe.

You do. not. risk. turning the ball over there. And, further, you do not stop the clock. Don't leave Nebraska any room to keep the ball on the ground, keep them out of time outs.

Remember, on fourth down going the other way, Nebraska needed a long play to convert, and they were rushing to get the play off because the clock was draining fast. They've got either an extra 30 seconds or a time out to talk it over if we throw an incompletion there.

I think there are times our staff does not go for the throat the way they should, but this was not one of those times. They kept the ball on the ground, and that was the right move. I didn't like the precise call, but they did what they had to, and it had a positive effect on the outcome.

Generally speaking you are making a good point, but that specific isn't true.  Go back and watch the video.  The clock was stopped at exactly 1:00 and Nebraska snapped the ball with 23 seconds on the play clock.  Nebraska didn't rush that 4th down play in.

Here is a link to this exact moment.

It was Scott Frost that was hurrying up, apparently to try and catch UofM off guard on defense not because there was a concern about time.  A full minute at the 50 yard line down by 3 is very doable in terms of time.  Clock stopped at 1:00, ball snapped with 23 seconds on the play clock, 4th and 10.

My question...

WHY WAS THE CLOCK STOPPED??  -- If you watch the replay it was counting down to like 0:54 and then went up to 1:00 and paused until the snap.  The previous play was in-bounds and Nebraska had no timeouts.  I think we would have been dealing with some "Spartan Bob" level clock conspiracy if UNL had somehow completed that 4th down.

It looks like the ref ruled that the Nebraska player did just enough to fall with the ball touching out of bounds as the ref didn't signal to keep the clock running.  Not sure on the exact rule of what the player has to do to be out of bounds and it is unclear if the player did in fact get the ball out of bounds.

They reset the clock back to 1:00, but if he was ruled out of bounds it should have been reset to 1:03.

Had the player not gotten the ball out of bounds and the clocked kept running it looks like 4th down would have been snapped at ~0:45.

P.S. After Spartan Bob didn't they make a BigTen official in charge of the clock for all BigTen games?

I think we played a very good team today. Much better than their record indicates.  Another road win against (in my opinion) a well coached team.  This was a BIG win for us tonight and I know there were some struggles on both sides of the ball at times but we won. Period!  I of course wish our offense was a bit more explosive to get out to bigger leads and sustain drives at times (so our D is not out on the field too often) but all in all I thought it was well coached on both sides of the ball.  Two of those scores by Nebraska were just really well designed plays that fooled our D.  Again I think Nebraska is a solid team and we beat just that, a solid team on the road.  Couldn't be happier to walk out of that stadium with a tough fought win.

Also ..... Jake Moody ..... thank you!

The last play by JJ wasn’t a good call when you know you need a fg to win and the first half where we were three inches from the end zone, it should have been a no brained qb sneak. The no timeout where we did a late defensive sub wasn’t good either. I’ll take those when we win.

Was it just me or did it look like every time they showed Scott Frost, he was waiting for an anvil to hit him in the head, or stroke out, or have a heart attack?
