Moore Nominated for Broyles Award
I saw that Moore was nominated for the Broyles Award as the top assistant coach in college football. Am I the only one who suspects that our Big 10 Commissioner will intercede to remove Moore from consideration because he served too many games as a head coach?

No assistant coach in America shouldered a heavier load this year...or just about any year.
We Want MOORE!
November 27th, 2023 at 2:57 PM ^
He should win both Broyles and Bear Bryant award - best assistant AND best head coach in the country.
November 27th, 2023 at 5:46 PM ^
Won't matter. According to Paul Finebaum no one outside of Ann Arbor knows who he is anyway...
November 27th, 2023 at 4:22 PM ^
The DC at Iowa, Phil Parker, is also on the list.
He has a solid claim as well.
November 27th, 2023 at 5:40 PM ^
Moore wasn't merely nominated for the Broyles award. He is one of the five finalists.
November 27th, 2023 at 2:35 PM ^
Slam dunk.
Back to back Joe Moore awards and now this year.
November 27th, 2023 at 2:39 PM ^
He’ll win this award no problem
November 27th, 2023 at 2:39 PM ^
It shouldn't even be close.
November 27th, 2023 at 3:00 PM ^
I keep searching that list for Knowles...
November 28th, 2023 at 2:20 AM ^
Knowlewhere to be found.

How many assistants went 4-0 as acting head coach?
November 27th, 2023 at 2:41 PM ^
with two of those wins vs. top-10 teams?
November 27th, 2023 at 3:21 PM ^
Mr. Beeks beat me to it.
November 27th, 2023 at 2:42 PM ^
Moore's record vs top 10 teams this year: 2-0
All other assistant coaches in FBS vs top 10 teams: 0-0
This is a no brainer
November 27th, 2023 at 3:02 PM ^
Is another HEAD coach 2-0 against top ten teams this year?
November 27th, 2023 at 5:06 PM ^
Technically, Jim Harbaugh. I believe the wins are going on his win/loss record.
November 28th, 2023 at 2:22 AM ^
Any other school have 4 head coaches go undefeated in one season before? Too tired to google.
November 27th, 2023 at 2:42 PM ^
Moore absolutely 100% deserves that award, Gattis in 2021 did not
November 27th, 2023 at 3:21 PM ^
Gattis should have immediately handed his award to Mike MacDonald. That was the real assistant of the year on that staff
November 27th, 2023 at 4:06 PM ^
Shine sweet freedom!
November 27th, 2023 at 2:44 PM ^
Usually, I’m a big fan of due process, let everyone have their say. In this case, it’s over. Just give it to Moore now. He should win assistant and head coach of the year. And the Joe Moore award. Hell, give him a Grammy/Emmy for his PSU post game. He deserves all good.
November 27th, 2023 at 2:48 PM ^
Phil Parker having to call defensive plays KNOWING that Iowa's offense will NEVER bail him out, pick up his slack, or win a shootout... I don't know guys. That's impressive.
Here's the definitive list of leads that Iowa's defense gave up:
- 1 point lead vs MSU -> 6 point deficit (then held MSU scoreless for the rest of the game)
- 1 point lead vs Minn -> 3 point deficit
- 2 point lead vs Ill -> 1 point deficit
- 6 point lead vs Ill - > 4 point deficit
- 10 point lead vs Neb -> tie
That's IT. 5 blown leads in 4 games led to exactly 1 (undeserved) loss
November 27th, 2023 at 3:05 PM ^
Was about to post the same sentiment. Sherrone Moore is my favorite here but damn Phil Parker has done a tremendous job coaching that defense.
November 27th, 2023 at 4:35 PM ^
Those are very impressive. But none of those include wins against two top 10 teams. If they would have done better against PSU, he should get it. I know Iowa D did pretty well against PSU until they couldn't. It is not their fault. But, win is a win.
November 27th, 2023 at 6:47 PM ^
Top 10? None of those are against Top 40.
November 28th, 2023 at 2:24 AM ^
If this is the case wouldnt Minter be a MUCH better candidate? How many leads did he give up?
November 27th, 2023 at 2:52 PM ^
Parker should win, winning ten games with < 250 yards offense/game is comically unprecedented. The previous high this century was four.
November 27th, 2023 at 3:28 PM ^
He's going to have another L after this weekend though.
November 28th, 2023 at 2:37 AM ^
Against the same opponents Minter gave up 52 to Parkers 83. Maybe we are nominating the wrong defensive coordinator here?
November 27th, 2023 at 2:57 PM ^
It's hard to see how anything any other assistant coach has done this year tops Moore's achievement.
For the games he worked as head coach: does he get extra points for working so smoothly with his assistant offensive coordinator?
November 27th, 2023 at 2:57 PM ^
I think that Moore could make a case for B1G Coach Of The Year (if that's even possible). It can't be Day or Franklin. Ferentz put an absolutely awful product on the field this year. That basically leaves it Braun at Northwestern who was 5-4 in the conference (7-5 overall). Moore's two Top 10 wins are way better than what anybody else did in the conference.
November 28th, 2023 at 7:35 AM ^
So. Broyles Award as assistant AND B1G Coach of the Year as head coach? Sure. Why not?
(Still, what Braun did at Northwestern is impressive.)
November 27th, 2023 at 2:58 PM ^
so the Big 10 Championship Game should also determine the Broyles Award
November 28th, 2023 at 2:25 AM ^
Minter or Moore?
The Minty Moore Award? Where everyone gets to eat?
November 28th, 2023 at 7:33 AM ^
Minty Moore with rice!
November 27th, 2023 at 3:00 PM ^
Screw that, they should just name it the Sherrone Moore Award after what he did this year
November 27th, 2023 at 3:07 PM ^
Good test of the electors' ethics; can't be a serious argument that anyone but Moore wins it on the merits.
November 27th, 2023 at 3:37 PM ^
OSU win may be the biggest win ever for an assistant coach.
Second biggest: on the road at PSU.
November 27th, 2023 at 3:45 PM ^
How can this possibly be a contest?
November 27th, 2023 at 4:21 PM ^
Phil Parker, DC from Iowa.
That man has done something special as well.
November 27th, 2023 at 4:31 PM ^
Phil Parker is an old hack.
November 28th, 2023 at 2:26 AM ^
Minters defense is better.
November 27th, 2023 at 3:52 PM ^
The Broyles Award is the Head Coach of the Year, correct?
And he did it in just 4 games.
November 27th, 2023 at 10:21 PM ^
Best coordinater either OC or DC
November 27th, 2023 at 3:53 PM ^
Fuck it, give him head coach of the year honors, then.
November 27th, 2023 at 4:09 PM ^
Moore 100% deserves this. The offense was one of the best in the country and the team didn't miss a beat when he had to step in as HC.
November 27th, 2023 at 4:30 PM ^
gene smith is on the phone to the petit as we speak
November 27th, 2023 at 5:20 PM ^
If Moore doesn’t win this award this year the award is meaningless
November 27th, 2023 at 5:34 PM ^
He absolutely deserves this award. I hope he wins it.
