SQ embodies the “Interdimensional Cable 2” episode of Rick and Morty.
“ ‘Jerry, remember that time you left a comment underneath that YouTube video and someone replied and called you a dumbass, so you replied and told them, "it takes one to know one," and you stayed up all night hitting "refresh" on your browser waiting for them to reply and then you fell asleep crying? This is like that. You can't make people like you. You just have to wait for hating you to bore them.’

You know the board has lost direction when literally 50% of all posts are directed at shaming posters for the format or grammatical composition of their post (this is far from the first or only). Think about it, hundreds of posts dedicated to slamming a poster for not posting to the highest of standards set by the elitists on this board. Pretty sad and pathetic.

When I read this post, my first inclination was to copy and paste the name of the individual he mentioned. I then refined it by adding Michigan. I was able to locate more info on the guy than I could ever consume. It never crossed my mind that he somehow failed me by not elaborating or providing me with a link because forcing me to do so was such an arduous process.

Take a step back.

Think about it, hundreds of posts dedicated to slamming a poster for not posting to the highest of standards set by the elitists on this board. Pretty sad and pathetic.

Look, this board is a community. And, like any community, there are rules of participation. One of those rules is to not post unsubstantiated rumors. Post your source! This isn't people being a bunch a grammar police. This is to keep the board for being flooded with baseless rumors by people who are simply looking to call attention to themselves with false and inflammatory information. So with this post half the people are slamming Sal, but the other half are kvetching over Hurtt as if he's the hire, when if you follow the link Sal eventually (and grudgingly) gave up, it would seem that Hurtt is one of five names being looked at, but the only two Webb seems to know of are Hurtt and Jim Leonhart. That's a very different scenario than the one Sal implied.

If a newby had done this, there would've been a gentle correction. But Sal has been around long enough, and is here often enough, to know these rules. He also has a rep for inflammatory posts anyway. If he'd simply copped to the mistake and posted the source right away instead of needlessly playing coy, it would've been a different story. Instead, he choose the path of Jihad. There are also well-established penalties for breaking established rules, and negs and snark are two. Another rule is that if you post something that gets a bunch of negs--and we all have--accept it and move on. Lashing out only gets you more negs and more snark, and Sal knows this as well.

We like sources. Even if you can’t reveal what was said or by whom, at least let us know where your “information” or more likely, rumor, is coming from. Then we can weight the plausibility of it appropriately.

BTW, this thread is typical third grade behavior from SQ. Whenever he is criticized, he turns it around and criticizes the person criticizing him. A little self-reflection can go a long way. (Now just watch him reply to me with a “self-reflect yourself booger-head” comment.)

HA. I get it and I can see pretty clearly that SQ takes a bit too much pride in defending himself but I'm not only referring to this thread, it's never ending on this board. I'll probably just go dark for another year or five until I can stomach the bullshit that comes with the good of this board again for a few months.

Let's not forget that SQ would not feel compelled to defend himself if he had not been dog-piled by the elitists on this board whose mission in life seems to be to do exactly this. Blaming SQ for his reaction kind of makes my point. Like I said, my first reaction to his post was to copy and paste the persons name and find whatever info I needed. It took .005 seconds. The resources used to complain about him not including supporting info dont seem worth the effort.

It might be good if he’s coming in as linebackers coach. Supposedly he was a good recruiter when he was a college position coach a decade ago, and he’s coached linebackers before. But his short time as a defensive coordinator in the NFL does not seem to have gone well. Moore could probably have his pick of candidates who would love to coordinate this defense, and this would seem like an uninspired choice.

Let’s be fair here. That was Minters first and only year there, and it was with BY FAR the least talented team in the SEC conference. Expecting him to take a talent deficient roster in the most talented conference and teach them a brand new system without the desired personnel and have it work out from Day 1 is insane.

I don’t think it’s a fair comparison between an NFL DC, where there is much more parity between teams, and a guy who had one year at Vanderbilt. Minter was hired exclusively because of his experience running the Ravens style defense which we had already tailored our scheme/personnel around. This guy doesn’t exactly fit that and wasn’t very successful as a DC.

Yeah but see, we have no idea what Sam said because the OP doesn't link to Sam, mention Sam, summarize Sam, nor is there any mention of the Edge because reasons and I didn't save the link from the other day and I had the feeling I wasn't invited to their super secret publicly available message board.

So, as far as I can tell at this point, it's a guy Moore knows and called and is considering as an option for a role on the staff.

Maybe that means he's his leading candidate for DC or maybe it means something else.

Edit: Well, links have been provided. Now we have this from Sam to chew on:

I KNOW that former Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Clint Hurtt is among the names to watch for Michigan’s next defensive coordinator.

Among the names. Okay.

Well, that's entirely true. Doesn't mean that he is about to be named the sole DC bringing his own system in.

It seems like there's *something* there, it's not just a name made up from thin air. But we don't know what the plan is. Is it at sole DC, using his own system? Is it, as I just saw somewhere, to come in and learn the bones and vocab of the Minter system and run that? Maybe as a Co-DC with Elston, combining experience with the system and youth?

The particulars matter quite a bit, as we can recall from previous coaching hires. And, of course, this could just turn out to be nothing.

He was supposedly a good recruiter.  Having him be the front end with recruits and Elston on the back end with keeping the scheme and development would be optimal.  Elston was at the presser today if I recall, but Clink was not.

Listened to Sam Webb's recap of the presser.  It looks like we're going to get what we want with renewed resources and emphasis on recruiting.  But you can't have it both ways, most recruiters are not good at Xs and Os and vice versa.  Was Minter a good recruiter, I have heard that.

I don't think that's true at all. There's really no way for us to know. The guy was basically a position coach in the NFL and his first chance as a DC did not go great and his head coach just got fired. The Seahawks still haven't made a new hire. He's probably not getting a ton of DC opportunities right now in the NFL. The nature of the co-DC relationship and money could entice him, depending on what he wants to do with his career.
