Mike DeBord to be named OC at Kansas
That analyst gig last year sure paid off!

That should go well.

Being an OC of Kansas Football is the equivalent of being a firefighter in Hell....losing battle.

Especially when you don't know which end of the hose the water comes out of.

It's like an SAT equivalency problem that I would love to see MGoBoard get its hands around:
DeBord's Offense :: Big 12 as ___ :: ___

as $hit :: Show... works on many levels ;)

I forgot he was an analyst last year. Realizing why the offense sputtered now seems crystal clear.

Is this sarcasm?
February 2nd, 2021 at 7:55 PM ^
Not quite, but I enjoyed it.
February 2nd, 2021 at 5:04 PM ^
I hope they have a great left tackle and RB

Now we know who would be willing to jump on the Titanic AFTER it hits the iceberg

Getting the band back together!
Together, the two of them coached the O-line here in the early-mid 90's. Les was centers and guards while DeBord was tackles and tight ends.
February 2nd, 2021 at 5:10 PM ^
Lol Kansas.
Good for him though. One basketball school to another.
February 2nd, 2021 at 5:23 PM ^
Fullbacks and tight ends from the 90's will be glad to hear this.
February 2nd, 2021 at 5:27 PM ^
Sucks. The last time we had great recruits was when he was on staff. Hat tip to him and Carr.
February 2nd, 2021 at 5:55 PM ^
I thought something along the same lines. Carr-era coaches are routinely mocked here, and yet that's the last time we were a respectable program year in, year out, and had no problem hanging with Ohio State.
[Yes, I am aware "things are different now" and I'm aware there's a great divide in many people's minds between the first and second halves of Carr's reign. Either way, no matter how bad we looked sometimes, we were still a team to be feared. Just ask Urban Meyer's Heisman-led Florida team.]

Good times
February 2nd, 2021 at 8:00 PM ^
A team to be feared? Really? Not if the other team had an equal or greater amount of talent. Same as Harbaugh, come to think of it. That 2008 Florida game is an outlier in the years where John Cooper wasn't coaching OSU.
I think you and LEGIONS are spiritual cousins of the original cargo cultists.
I'll be sure to pour some Keystone Light out for you at the next opportunity.
February 2nd, 2021 at 9:41 PM ^
Don't ask Jim Tressel though.
February 2nd, 2021 at 6:16 PM ^
Meh. Hoke and Mattison recruited a wave of NFL players. This just OSU sucking in the 90s nostalgia
February 2nd, 2021 at 5:34 PM ^
Sorry, Seth.

How does this man keep getting a job?!
February 2nd, 2021 at 5:39 PM ^
Jane Coastan RT'd a dude who, I thought, had the perfect summary of the Debord OC era.
"Hey, he scraped together 5th year SR Tom Brady and only 9 other NFL players into a top 5 scoring offense in the B10"
I mean, credit where credit is due
February 2nd, 2021 at 6:02 PM ^
I'm not a DeBord hater. In the five years DeBord was our OC (1997-99 and 2006-07), we went 12-0, 10-3, 10-2, 11-2 and 9-4. Their scoring averages might not have been incredible, but what Carr-coached offense ever lit up the scoreboard? Lloyd just wasn't that kind of coach.
DeBord did what Lloyd asked of him and we won a lot of games. Also, he was a solid OL/TE coach.
February 2nd, 2021 at 7:07 PM ^
Feels like the classic question of comparing:
Carr without DeBord vs DeBord without Carr?
Carr got the absolute best out of DeBord and that was only good enough with Hall of Fame defenses and talent mismatches all over the field.
February 2nd, 2021 at 7:17 PM ^
you mean run, run, run, run, get a couple first downs until you end up 3rd and long at some point. then say hey tom or chad, make a clutch 3rd down pass here with a likely blitz coming. debord never heard of throwing to set up the run. but alas, carr probably didn't either.

“A dude” = the Jon Chait. Ought to be familiar to older M fans (and mgobloggers).
Chait is indeed a “dude,” in the pre-maligned Don Brown sense of the word. And I say that as someone who does not share Chait’s political views (his true area of expertise).

I wish him DeBest

It’s not what you know, it’s who you know that counts.

Every DC in the big 12 is shaking in their boots!!!!
Go get em Mike.
February 2nd, 2021 at 6:09 PM ^
Bring on the waggle.
(Well, I should probably check their roster first. As it says above, do they have a great LT and RB?)
February 2nd, 2021 at 6:11 PM ^
This is my standard DeBord comment:
Watch out! He has doubled his standard playbook since his days at Michigan.
Old DeBord playbook:
1. Hart left
2. Hart right
New DeBord playbook:
1. RB left
2. RB right
3. RB up the middle
4. The forward pass
February 2nd, 2021 at 7:48 PM ^
Welp, there goes the whole plan of DeBord being leaned on for offensive line coaching out of the analyst position to help a green first year OL coach.
February 3rd, 2021 at 12:18 AM ^
It will free up space to hire Ed back as an analyst.

Going to coach Kansas football, in any capacity, is just asking to end your career and be put out of your misery.
Has any coach there since Mark Mangino had a winning percentage better than 25%? Seems like everyone who coaches there can't get above a 1-11 to 3-9 record in any given year.

Jane Coaston had a twitter field day with this yesterday. Chait too.
