Is it worth taking a shot on Moore? Sure. But more proven QBs will likely be available to replace JJ.

That said, JJ definitely feels like the sort of guy who wouldn’t leave the team hanging about his future. I bet he’s already told them whether he plans to stay or go.

Well, of course I think Michigan makes contact to see if there is mutual interest. That's basically doing due diligence. Once a guy has passed on a school, it's a little hard to think he's coming later. Would be great if he's interested.

Here's a question: given what he brings to the table, what kind of offensive scheme changes might be needed to best utilize the talent?  Or would he slot in as a straight-up J.J. replacement?

(I know almost nothing about what Dante Moore brings to the table ...)

A straight up replacement, maybe with a little less running but a better raw arm.  But he needs a LOT of work.  Kelly did nothing to help him learn how to read defenses, understand coverages, or put the ball in places.  Basically, Dante was taught to run Chip's offense.  Okay great, he learned that but failed at being a QB in the process.  I'd say he's behind freshman JJ right now.

Edit:  Behind frosh JJ, but probably still ahead of anyone else but Tuttle.

Davis gives you a high floor. I agree wholeheartedly with the “more talented Cade” comparison. He has a good enough arm, accurate, and can read a defense well. He’ll be a great game-managing QB. But he lacks the arm strength and the athleticism (good enough to extend plays in the pocket, but isn’t a threat on the ground. A bit less mobile than JJ) to be a true game changing QB in my opinion.

Maybe I’m just taking things the way i want to take them, but I took Dante’s emphasis on “development” as meaning he’s interested in M. After all, we’re kind of known for second tier recruiting and first tier development.

I can’t believe there are people who are so salty he didn’t come here initially that they now claim they don’t want Moore. He was a higher ranked recruit than McCarthy and was extremely refined coming out of high school. Of course a true freshman QB is going to look mediocre especially when he was given no chance to succeed at UCLA. If Moore comes to Michigan, it tells me all I need to know about his thought process and desire to develop given his other suitors. If JJ comes back and he has the chance to sit and grow under Harbaugh, Campbell, and JJ, then I have zero doubt he will start in 2025

Some kids like Caleb Williams or Drake Maye come in and play well right away. Other kids like Jayden Daniels or Bo Nix need time and a change of scenery.

Player development isn't linear, and Dante didn't struggle any more or less at UCLA than fellow 5-star Jaden Rashada.

If I'm a highly recruited QB today I am going to the school I like best, that offers the most in total. If I prove myself the world is my oyster. If I'm a bust I'm where I wanted to be with the best deal I could make at the time.

Unless a recruit has a tie to a school or that school has recently had someone on the staff convicted of being an axe murderer a school is a school.

Would much rather have a 1 or 2-year rental QB who is already mostly developed and can game manage than a super-raw Sophomore who might not be any more ready than Jadyn Davis to start next year.  I trust the coaches, though, especially with the portal.

The experienced QB sounds good but in most cases you at best get a somewhat good journeyman type QB like Sam Hartman with a pretty low ceiling.

Hell we had Shea who was a 5 star but IMHO performed like a low 4 star -   I looked back at the 2020 team and he had 2 future pro receivers, Ronnie Bell, good tight ends 2 future pro running backs and still looked mediocre.

I'd rather take a higher ceiling QB and let him develop -    by end of year he'd be really good at Michigan.

We have that option on the roster with Tuttle as JJ's potential veteran replacement with supposedly a medical redshirt year of eligibility possibly available. Of course, all the qb room decisions pivot on JJ's choice to stay or go. That impacts how the staff treats team development goals with whomever is settled upon as the next signal caller. The Rose Bowl is more than a playoff game in that regard.

I'm not sure why people are so hell bent on how he performed this year.  Yeah, his numbers weren't good.  But he was also a true freshman on a bad team, with a bad roster, in what was the best conference top to bottom in the country this year.  He wasn't ready to start and he shouldn't have been put in that situation.  I'll take his talent in the QB room 100% of the time, especially when we aren't necessarily relying on him to be a savior.

Best case scenario, JJ comes back and Moore and Davis can develop and battle it out to see who earns it for the 2025 season and the other can transfer if they feel it necessary.  Hell, if Underwood wants to come in too then even better.  We should never turn down high level talent for the QB room under any circumstance.  Take the best we can get and let the chips fall.

Recency bias is crazy on this. Freshman year JJ, backing up Cade... Y'all forgetting some of the absolutely bananas throws he attempted?? This year, for the most part, he's been pretty flawless. But even last year there was chatter about him needing to step up in his decision making for M to be successful.

Talking about a freshman at UCLA having issues... Like, yeah, of course he did.
