this team is a fucking embarrassment.
February 8th, 2022 at 9:41 PM ^
This has to be the worst Michigan bench so the early Beilein years. They consistently give you absolutely nothing. Scary to think that next year we'll be relying on another group of freshmen coming off the bench who mostly can't shoot either.
Also can Houstan stop disappearing for multiple games in a row? It's crazy to be borderline useless in most games still.
February 8th, 2022 at 9:41 PM ^
A lot of issues with this team but the number one issue is Juwan Howard, his coaching, recruiting, roster management has been horrendous for this year.
His PG recruiting is very questionable, WTF is he doing?
February 8th, 2022 at 9:51 PM ^
His roster management is really bad with the lack of wings, but a lot of 4s. The PG thing will be an issue too. I'm not sure why you would recruit 2 PGs in back to back classes that can't do anything outside of 5ft from the basket, but one is tiny so he won't even be good in the paint. They're better for playing in transition which we never do, so I don't see them doing very well.
His recruiting has obviously been pretty good with highly rated players, but their fit seems very odd. Next year looks rough if Hunter leaves.
February 8th, 2022 at 9:42 PM ^
I appreciate those who remain committed to believing in Juwan. I am not there. This team is poorly coached, plays dumb and the coaches keep with terrible rotations.
February 8th, 2022 at 9:43 PM ^
When your star 3 point shooter repeatedly misses the rim and throws up numerous bricks and your defense is awful and you have no other shooters, you are just simply a poor bball team. They show signs every once in a while and then they look so bad.
February 8th, 2022 at 9:43 PM ^
I dunno about you guys but I'd rather not be ranked or highly regarded preseason and prove it on the court that we're good, instead of all the hype of being good and shitting the bed.
Just my 2 cents.

I guess I’ll continue watching The Book of Boba Fett.
February 8th, 2022 at 9:45 PM ^
Episodes 5 and 6 are amazing.
February 8th, 2022 at 10:30 PM ^
The Mandalorian!
February 8th, 2022 at 9:44 PM ^
I guess "Covid year" cuts both ways
February 8th, 2022 at 9:44 PM ^
Brooks’s regression this season has been sad to see.
February 8th, 2022 at 9:44 PM ^
Eli Brooks regression this year is a serious head scratcher as well.
February 8th, 2022 at 9:48 PM ^
Don’t think it’s a regression. This is what he is when asked to be the 2nd or 3rd option. He’s best as a 4th where he can focus on defense
February 8th, 2022 at 10:34 PM ^
This exactly. He is a good player. Not one of your best. He can’t be scorer #2.
February 8th, 2022 at 9:55 PM ^
He's being asked to score a lot, play the best perimeter player/guard, and coach everyone up to make sure they're in the right spots. That's a lot to do, but you would hope the rest of the team would catch up by now.
Besides Jones, and somewhat Moussa (on offense at least, still bad on defense) no one else has really improved enough to take the weight off his shoulders. If it wasn't for Jones, they'd be asking him to be the primary ball handler again too. They should be running actions to get him 3s and easy looks like they do for Houstan, but they rely on him to create for others more.
February 8th, 2022 at 9:46 PM ^
Got back into this game. Should have gone zone sooner.
February 8th, 2022 at 9:46 PM ^
THAT is how you close the half on the road!!!
February 8th, 2022 at 9:46 PM ^
Nice Johns! Still rooting for him - hope he can close out his senior year on a positive note
February 8th, 2022 at 9:49 PM ^
The analyst said he was "hit or miss" which is an improvement over "miss and miss".
February 8th, 2022 at 9:46 PM ^
As bad as we’ve looked, to only be down three with 20 seconds ago and a half is pretty amazing.
February 8th, 2022 at 9:46 PM ^
Shooting is beginning to even out.
let’s go!
February 8th, 2022 at 9:46 PM ^
Because Penn State is also bad at basketball, we've gone on an 8-point run and now trail only 34-31
February 8th, 2022 at 9:47 PM ^
Defensive switch up very late but very necessary
February 8th, 2022 at 9:48 PM ^
Hey, we are a basketball school…….a women’s basketball school.
February 8th, 2022 at 9:48 PM ^
Could be tied if the Houstan shoot is ruled a 3.
February 8th, 2022 at 9:59 PM ^
And it was ruled a 3! We're tied at the half!
February 8th, 2022 at 9:48 PM ^
To be down by one at the half is a shock. For a while it looked like we'd be down by 20.
February 8th, 2022 at 9:48 PM ^
I feel really bad for Hunter, because he's quietly elevated his play on basically every level. Man is really let down by the rest of his squad. They struggle to get him the ball and can't seem to make things happen when they double him. He came back to school to be a contender, and the rest of the team isn't fulfilling their share.
That being said, this game is still very do-able. Since taking Bufkin off, Penn St haven't been able to pick on one guy for free points every possession. I like Bufkin offensively, but that was a brutal stretch.
February 8th, 2022 at 9:48 PM ^
How the hell is this a one point game.
February 8th, 2022 at 9:49 PM ^
Great way to close out the half.
LFG
February 8th, 2022 at 9:49 PM ^
10-0 run to end the half. Signs of life.
February 8th, 2022 at 9:49 PM ^
We closed out the first half really well but boy our play leaves a lot to be desired
February 8th, 2022 at 9:49 PM ^
Juwan needs to clean up his lineups. I wouldn’t want to see Kobe at all the rest of this game. John’s has shown he may be having one of those Johns games / he should get some more playing time. And I still want to see Jace - curious why he doesn’t play a lot.
February 8th, 2022 at 9:53 PM ^
Kobe and Frankie need to play some minutes this half. We are playing a lot of games in a short amount of time. Play zone where their defensive lapses are minimized some. Penn St doesn’t seem to have the team to beat a zone for an entire half.
February 8th, 2022 at 9:50 PM ^
Glad we clawed back into the game but thoroughly disappointed by our defense and lack of being able to keep dudes in front of us.
February 8th, 2022 at 9:51 PM ^
This team right now can’t compete without Jones/Brooks in backcourt. Not sure how Zeb didn’t work with this team, but not having another guard option that isn’t a true freshman really hurts. Frankie and Kobe really struggling. Still not sure how Jace doesn’t get minutes with the edge he brings with toughness and D.
February 8th, 2022 at 9:51 PM ^
Missed the rest of half after the under 4 timeout (I was not sad to have to walk away)...and...what the fuck happened?! A tease?
I don't know what the staff can do but the defense has to start defending at least something. Shut the interior down or shut the 3balls down.
February 8th, 2022 at 9:55 PM ^
Switched to zone, PSU didn't handle it well at all, made a couple shots is the short version.
February 8th, 2022 at 9:53 PM ^
Nice finish to the half. Shoot a bit better second half, play some defense, win the game.
February 8th, 2022 at 9:55 PM ^
If you don’t see how this can be a one point game, I don’t know. PSU had a run of 5-7 consecutive challenged shots go in. UM missed a number of wide open shots. Water found its level.
February 8th, 2022 at 9:56 PM ^
Looks like they ruled Houstan's shot was a three...game is tied at the half!
Second half is a whole new ballgame.
Let's Go Blue!
February 8th, 2022 at 9:59 PM ^
Houstan needs to shoot set shots, he’s been trying to shoot off the curl the last three games and it’s not went well.
February 8th, 2022 at 10:00 PM ^
Spot on - he's a set shooter, hasn't shown the accuracy to hit one off the screen ala NBA Duncan Robinson.
February 8th, 2022 at 9:58 PM ^
Are they going to review Houstan’s 3?!? Clearly behind the line.
Also, 2 big hacks by Harrar on that last one. Should have been an and-1 for the lead
February 8th, 2022 at 9:59 PM ^
ESPN has the score tied at 34. Is that a mistake or did that long 2 get turned into a 3?
February 8th, 2022 at 10:03 PM ^
The 2 was ruled a 3 - We should get points during halftime more often.
February 8th, 2022 at 10:00 PM ^
Jones is an awful PG, he dribbles too much without having the necessary handle. He plays alright sometimes but man, he's just not good enough. Our backup PG.....is Collins, SMH.
Eli has definitely regressed for some odd reason.
Houstan pretty much sucks, sorry if that hurts anyone's feelings.
Diabate is raw, plain and simple.
Jace needs to play way more. He hustles.
Kobe needs to get in the weight room, he's just too skinny and gets pushed around.
I'm of the mind that Juwan gets one more year but if this shit continues, he needs to go, last year is looking like a fluke at this point.
I'd rather have a coach like Beilein any day, I don't care for overrated "#1" recruiting classes.
February 8th, 2022 at 10:05 PM ^
There was times when people wanted Beilein gone as well. He had his clunker years. I think Juwan and the staff deserve some criticism for this year so far but it’s far too early in Juwan’s coaching career to put any remarks about one more year out there.
February 8th, 2022 at 10:03 PM ^
This Purdue Illinois game is a burn burner too. Tied at 34 with a minute left to go on the first half, definitely worth watching.
