May Brian rejoice! Michigan offers IU WR transfer Donaven McCulley

Linky.

Listeners of the MGoPodcast know that Brian has been eying this guy since mid-season.  A 6'5 athletic WR that can "go up and get it," as they say.

Well, as luck would have it, McCulley recently entered the portal, and Michigan has offered.

Go git 'im!

Brian also wants better play calls for DE, play action, more RPOs, less DL rotation and going for it on 4th downs as often as we can.

I am going to believe all of that are happening in playoff and we are going to roll tide.

I'd love to see all this too, but I have a hard time believing this will actually happen. This staff has shown great ability to identify and develop talent but very rarely have we seen them fully weaponize their offensive talent. And even when they do it's just once or twice.

I get that sometimes you just need to get out with the win and no injuries and can call a bland game plan (see PSU and Iowa) but I don't the "don't put anything on tape" philosophy this staff seems to have is ridiculous.

Fuck that, put it ALL on tape. Make teams prepare for everything then bust out counters, and counters to the counters, during the games.

Barner was a revelation. Wish we used him more and threw it up to him more often. Maybe a weapon to use against Bama.

But, loved his heart/effort. He bought into it all. Does he have a year left?

If this guy is cut from the same cloth, I'm not opposed to Indiana being our AA affiliate for future promotion

Absolute must get. WR room is going to be barren with Wilson and Johnson departing. Adding this guy, who thrived in an otherwise anemic IU offense, to Semaj and Loveland would make for a pretty solid receiving corps.

For any potential transfer, the first question is whether Harbaugh is coming back, which is a big one. If you’re a receiver, another big question would be who’s going to be the QB? I could see McCarthy possibly coming back and if he did, the offense becoming a bit more pass friendly, which would be a positive for a receiver looking for a school. If he’s not, then that becomes another big question. I don’t think that much uncertainty works in Michigan’s favor.

We really can be the Kings of the Portal if we have our admission stuff in order. Couple that with around a Top-10 class average we should be able to effectively fill in gaps to the point that when that "class" graduates from Michigan, we will have enough contributors that turns out to be around a Top-5 class.

Using the portal to fill some pieces especially on the lines is very important. I think we should be able to entice any solid Power-5 starter on either line (or a top-tier Group of 5 guy like Stewart) who is looking for a new home.

Ill keep saying this. Recruit Goergia's bottom half of their class. Last year they recruited 4 of the top ten linebackers in the country. Recruit the bottom half of those 4 hard and leave them with your business card. You want to be the first call a Georgia player makes when it isnt working out.

Georgia's 3rd and 4th linebackers in last years class wouldve been our best linebacker haul since they started recruiting rankings.

My kingdom for a summary piece about the portal entrants, targets, offers, and reasonable additions.  Even better if there's something about the talent of the players behind the departing (or likely departing) upperclassmen.

According to IU's new coach "Purdue sucks and so does Michigan and osu".

Wonder why any of their players would transfer to a 'sucks' school?

Go Blue.

PS - Michigan should "bury" IU next year over said comment.

Concordia University has a very good (NAIA all american)  WR DB KR that might be able to contribute next year.  Degayner or something like that.  Not sure he is on UM's radar but he is in the neighbourhood and might be worth a look.  Maybe a walk-on and/or good use of the portal if he would merit a scholly.  Jake Thaw type...maybe a little speedier.
