Getting things done at 5am. I like the hire. The team needs someone with his experience add I think the Don Brown stuff is bullshit. Looks like Sam Webb is the only insider that knew what was going on.

The main critique of Wink seems to be that he couldn't figure out how to design a defense with the NYG that could carry an offense led by Tommy DeVito, Tyrod Taylor and Daniel Jones. Not sure many other DC's would have wanted to be in that position.

It’s also not the defense’s job to bail out the offense all the time. Situationally, sure. Your offense is going to put the defense in a bad spot and need a big stop 2-3x per game, maybe more if you’re playing a home run offense in the NFL.

But the Giants offense, led by a guy named Tommy “Cutlets”, was not exactly playing complimentary football for most of the year.

The familiarity with the Ravens defensive concepts along with his penchant for creating turnovers should at least be enough for the defense to sustain momentum while the offense figures out its own identity.

Solid B/B+ hire considering the timing and availability of potential hires.

I’ll admit I’m not up on the giants but was there defense even that talented.  Always thought thibodeaux was bluster sans substance.  I couldn’t even name one other guy, is Leonard Williams  still on that team?, speaking of hype machine s that haven’t nearly reached the requisite level of production.

The end of the world happened for me yesterday. While transporting 5 quarts of used oil to advance auto. I can’t even type what happened. 4 hours of scrubbing and 4 rolls of Costco paper towels later and my car still smells like the pit of a jiffy lube. May have to trade it in.

Not so much the carpet on the trunk floor itself as I have a Nissan plastic insert. It’s the other pieces that cover the wheel wells. I’m gonna spray the hell out of it with brake cleaner in a bit. I just had to sop up the BP level of oil spill it caused. I love this car and literally spent 1k on tires the day before, painted my calipers and installed new Ebc rotors and brake pads. Then this happened. I spent high school working in a custom shop that rebuilt engines, trannies and tricked out just about everything else, so I’m extremely anal with my cars. No mechanic will ever touch it. I literally sat in a chair yesterday drinking beer with a tear in my eye. Ultimately it was my own dam fault and knew better. I didn’t double check the cap!

The plastic didn’t absorb any oil so that was easy. It was the oil that sloshed over the lipped edge of the trunk liner and absorbed into all the other carpet around it. 4 quarts in total poured out and 3 were on the plastic liner which I was able to dump back in the jug. 1quart soaked into the surrounding carpet which is 1 hell of a lot of stink. used oil at that, not that new oil would have smelled much better.

I think before judgment is passed too quickly and what people should understand about the hire is an important key here:

"Both Minter and former Michigan DC Mike Macdonald, ran a version of Martindale's defense, with similar concepts and terminology. So the adjustment for the players might not be quite as dramatic as if another NFL coach took over."

Continuity is crucial for our defense here and the fact they won't be starting at square one is a huge, huge boon to their continued growth

The concern is that much of what made the MacDonald/Minter defense so effective against the likes of OSU and Washington is essentially the exact opposite of how Wink likes to run his defense. Complex zones and disguised pressure vs man coverage and heavy blitzing.

That alignment, personnel, and terminology will be very similar is cool and all, but it sounds like he’ll have to adapt his concepts a bit to have similar results as we have had over the last three years.

great resume for the job:

Martindale has hosted numerous game shows, including What's This Song?, Gambit, Headline Chasers, High Rollers, The Last Word, Great Getaway Game, Trivial Pursuit, Shuffle, Boggle, Jumble, Instant Recall, Debt, and most famously Tic-Tac-Dough. In addition, he was the creator of Bumper Stumpers.
