Good, this deserves noon game slotting. I know there were some brief rumors that this was considered for a night game.

Relatedly OSU @ Nebraska is going to be the 7:30 ABC game. That would have been interesting except OSU looks great and Nebraska...doesn't.

Start him off right - with a lot of success for happy times!  In fishing, you go to that can't miss place for something easy, like sunfish (drop a worm, hook a fish).  For baseball, you start with T-ball, where everyone has success.  Everyone plays for a reason!  In football, you start with your favorite team against Rutger.

He'll be a fan for life because he started with success and a lot of fun!!

Maybe they will have as many 2:35 media timeouts in this game as they had in the Army game, People were booing in the 4th quarter.  Media timeouts were almost 4 minutes between quarters.

Brian was bitching about this last year and if anything, it has only gotten worse.

I'm all for noon starts, for most games. However . . . what's the latest on PSU and ND? I'm guessing network TV guys are waiting to see how each team does the next 2 - 3 weeks.

  • If Michigan beats Wisconsin (dubious, but that's my hope,) and PSU beats Maryland and Purdue, I think that will be a night game in Happy Valley.
  • ND faces Georgia this Saturday. If ND should win, could that mean another UTL game with ND before they go off the schedule?

I was under the impression that was already scheduled for a night white out game. I am begging the football gods for a noon kick for that one. The only time I prefer noon games is in hostile environments like that. I am very thankful the game this week is an 11AM local time kick.

I don't mind noon games for a few games per year but for god sake, I can only stay in the bubble for so many Saturdays of the year.  It's hard work.  It is seriously an impossibility for me to watch a noon game live in the fall.

3:30 is the best time-slot in college football and Michigan never plays in that slot anymore.    Frustrating.

Several of the players are on record as preferring noon games.  They think they play better.  So while I'd love to see ND at night, if the players think a noon kick gives us a better chance at winning, I'll just have to start drinking at 9am.

Also I really don't want the PSU game to be at night.  That stadium sucks to play in during the day.

It'll be either a 12-day or 6-day selection, but I doubt M vs. ND will be in prime time. Fox has game 4 of the World Series that night. Not sure ESPN or ABC would want to potentially lose a ton of viewers if the World Series happens to feature, say, the American League's team from New York against the National League's team from Los Angeles.

BTN DOES have a night football game slotted for 10-19.  The same day as U-M/PSU.

BTN does NOT have a night game slotted for 10-26.  The same day as U-M/ND.

As to why that is relevant?  BTN typically does not have a night game slotted on Saturday's where ABC plans to show the B1G in their prime-time slot.

Take that FWIW.

I find it near impossible for U-M/PSU to fall to BTN.  FOX would pick it up and show at Noon.  Indiana/Maryland would then be the choice for the BTN night spot.

I also find it near impossible that ABC would pass on U-M/ND.  The game is already slotted for a Disney network, and ABC LOVES Notre Dame.  They have historically shown stuff like ND vs. Wake Forest in the prime-time slot.

I wasn't suggesting that ESPN or ABC would pass on the game; I assume it'll be on ABC. I was just suggesting that with potentially stiff competition on Fox that night with the World Series that ABC/ESPN may choose to show the game during the day, either at 12 or 3:30 PM. A lot of that also depends on how the teams fare. A 1-loss ND team against a 2-loss Michigan team is a lot different than both teams being ranked in the top 10 and undefeated.

The new FOX contract changed everything. Most of the big conference matchups are on FOX now as they get the first priority most weeks. ESPN/ABC gets the first picks some weeks, but when and how this is decided I don't know. FOX gets 9 primetime games, and ESPN/ABC gets 6 primetime games.

I would assume the Notre Dame game will be primetime because the schedule lists that ESPN/ABC has already picked up the game. The schedule also has Michigan @ Illinois listed as an ESPN/ABC game.

I am all for 1 pm games.  They give you a chance to tailgate on an empty stomach, and enjoy a more leisurely drive to the Stadium.  But since they went the way of the dodo bird years ago, night games should be reserved for real prime time prime games, such as Notre Dame (before November, of course).  I hate to see all the hoopla and fallderall of night games lost on opponents like Rutgers, et al.  One of my favorite games of my 56 years somewhere in the Stadium was the Shoelaces-Roundtree-UDL game; seems like yesterday but I know it wasn't.

Sure took the B1G a long time to announce this game time.  Difficult to make plans for the rest of the day.

Thank God.  Taking my 8 year old to his first game that weekend and a night game would not have been good.  The Maize and Blue kickoff at Noon, as Bo intended.

Uuuuggghhh... bummer. Really cuts into tailgating time. Was hoping for a 3:30 game. Oh well. Grandkids will have to be up a little earlier. ?
