Since financial services are…

Since financial services are deemed "essential services" I'm still going to the office everyday. Albeit a much quieter one. So I'm still in a dress shirt and khakis, although today I threw a sweater on due to the cold rain moving in.

Part of me envies all of you people who get to stay home and lounge around, but then I remember it's not that easy for some so I'm pretty thankful that being deemed essential services means my paycheck doesn't stop.

He was a safety recruit of…

He was a safety recruit of similar size/athleticism to Paige, granted he weighed about 30 pounds more, but last year he was converted to a hybrid nickel/SAM linebacker. It's a similar role to the Viper in our defense, but has a little bit of what Uche does to it as well.

His 2019 stats are: 91 tackles, 7 sacks, 14 TFLs, 1 fumble forced, 1 fumble recovered, 2 INTs

He just won the Butkus Award as the Nations Top Linebacker.

I would love to see Makari…

I would love to see Makari Paige used similarly to how Clemson utilizes Isaiah Simmons. I don't think it's going to happen but with the success Simmons has had the last couple years I would love to see Michigan utilize Paige similarly.

Lots of speculation out…

Lots of speculation out there that the PSU game will be a Noon game on FOX. FOX is pushing the best B1G matchup of the week to their Noon time slot each week and there's lots of speculation the PSU game will get that treatment.

Might be good news too so as to avoid a night game White Out.

That's already scheduled for…

That's already scheduled for a Noon game

Make sure you hit up Bodo's…

Make sure you hit up Bodo's Bagels. There's one right across the street from campus on the main drag called "The Corner" or there are a couple other locations throughout town, but it's a must stop for me anytime I'm in town.

I had some great tacos once at The Bebedero which is located in the Downtown Mall. Not that kind of mall though. More along the lines of the National Mall in DC than a shopping mall.

I know you said "No Bars" but I've also had some good meals at South Street Brewery which is right next to the Mall. Some good burgers and pulled pork sandwiches. There's a nice seating area inside where you don't have to be at the bar per se.

Just an FYI, Velazquez…

Just an FYI, Velazquez should be +8, not +12.

Lorenz at 247 saying this is…

Lorenz at 247 saying this is going to be a medical scholarship situation and that he's likely never going to play. They expect Harbaugh to address at his presser.

Winston-Salem, NC

Pros:

3…

Winston-Salem, NC

Pros:

  • 3 hour drive from the beach and a 1 hour drive from the mountains
  • Great weather, especially spring and fall
  • Can play golf year-round
  • People are extremely friendly (southern hospitality is real)
  • Feels a lot like a slightly smaller version of GR. Downtown area is evolving and lots of young(er) people are moving to the area.
  • Housing prices are much more affordable
  • Lots of jobs, especially in the medical and engineering fields

Cons:

  • People have no idea how to handle snow (could also be a pro since everything closes)
  • Long ways away from our family, which as we have kids becomes more of a con
  • Closest airport is Charlotte or Raleigh which is an hour and a half drive (Greensboro's airport sucks and is super expensive)
  • Quite a few Buckeye fans....and Clemson fans are becoming more annoying too
I agree that your internet…

I agree that your internet options are ridiculously expensive. The cost of internet must've gone up considerably in the last 5 years since I lived in GR.

I switched to YouTubeTV about 2 months ago and love it. I live in NC but I set it up through my in laws address in Monroe, so my local channels are all the Detroit stations. Also means that I get Fox Sports Detroit for all the Detroit sports I want. I get BTN, FS1, Golf Channel, all the ESPNs, etc. so I won't miss any games either. I'm looking forward to the fall and having the option to watch the Lions games. I'm not an NFL guy, but it nice to have the option. It's perfect for the sports fan, in my opinion.

We pay $40/mo for internet and $40/mo for YouTubeTV, which is less than we were paying for just our DirecTV service. With a baby on the way, we were looking at ways to cut our costs and this was the perfect option to cut costs and not really lose anything. My wife misses watching HGTV, DIY, and Food Network, but that's about it.

As a NC resident, their…

As a NC resident, their ranking is laughable. They should be a lock for top 5 worst.

If I had a dollar for every time I've seen someone stopped at the end of an on ramp to the expressway because they don't know how to merge, or turning right from the left lane, or left from the right lane, or come to a complete stop in the middle of the road so someone can pull out of a parking lot I could probably retire by now...and I've only lived here 5 years. It's embarrassing how bad people are at driving.

Yes, the Steve Lorenz this…

Yes, the Steve Lorenz this very site often references on recruiting info and has as a guest on their podcast knows nothing.

That makes so much sense.

*dismissive hand wank*

Dude is going to clean up…

Dude is going to clean up....and I don't just mean on the field.

Yeah I have no idea why'd…

Yeah I have no idea why'd they would turn him away. I tried to venture over to the Irish247 board to find the source of the rumor but after reading ridiculous recruiting takes re: Michigan's class I bailed quickly.

You are correct, however, that Stanford is the bigger threat. Lorenz has said as much himself and the Crystal Ball indicates as much also. Given Michigan's need for outside receivers, here's hoping it's a successful visit that turns the tide.

There are some rumors…

There are some rumors floating around on 247 that he's no longer a take for ND. Not sure at this point how truthful those rumors are, but the ND mods are saying it so I'd give it some credence.

Alright, I feel compelled to…

Alright, I feel compelled to give some context on just how bad a loss this is for the supposed 14th ranked team.

I live in Winston-Salem. I live less than 10 minutes from Wake's campus. I've been to 2 Wake games this year and consider myself a quasi Wake fan. When I moved here 4+ years ago, I adopted them as my second team. I follow numerous Wake football beat writers and keep a peripheral view on their recruiting. That said, I feel particularly qualified to give some context here.

To preface this, I'll say that NC State/Wake is a rivalry game so rivalry game quirks apply.

Wake has sustained MSU levels of injuries this year without the luxury of having MSU talent. They're operating on a talent level more like that of Indiana and even that might be a small stretch. They've had 10 players sustain season ending injuries. All but 1 of Wake's scholarship linebackers have been lost for the year due to injury. To compensate, they were taking walk-ons and guys who've never played LB before and playing them. The last 3 games they've been playing an undersized safety at both LB and safety. This is a big reason why Clemson gashed them for 63 points. In the secondary, Wake had to move a backup WR to safety at the beginning of the year. He's been abysmal. Wake is ranked 93rd in total defense on S&P+ with their run defense coming in at 94th and their pass defense at 91st. Long story short, their bad.

Offensively, Wake lost their SR starting LT for the season in game 1. They were without their #2 & #3 WRs for the better part of the year (they both played sparingly last night). At QB they've been starting a True Freshman who's played very well all things considered, but he went out for the year last weekend against Syracuse. They turned their backup QB into a WR when they gave the Freshman the starting job and to compensate for injuries, so last night they won with a guy who at the beginning of the year was their #3 QB, Jamie Newman.

Long story short, Wake Forest is not just a mediocre team, they're a mediocre team without enough scholarship bodies to field all 22 starting positions. For the #14 ranked team in the CFP to lose to them, AT HOME no less, is just embarrassingly bad. This is exactly why Klatt has been railing against these ACC rankings for 2 weeks now. The ACC is bad and these rankings are fraudulent.

I am strongly considering…

I am strongly considering heading over to Durham and watching my alma mater and reigning DII National Champion Ferris State Bulldogs play at Cameron Indoor. Just not sure I want to pay $60+. Although going to Cameron Indoor is a bucket list thing for me, so maybe.

I also thought about going to the Lexington BBQ Festival in Lexington, NC. It's a short drive and the weather is supposed to be decent. Problem is the wife doesn't like BBQ, so it'll be a tough sell.

Ditto. I’m in Rural Hall and this was not the news I wanted to wake up to this morning. Damn you ACC and your terrible football!

I was waiting for ticket…

I was waiting for ticket watch also. Ended up just buying tix to the Maryland game anyway. Didn't want to risk the price going up. Got 2 tix in Section 11, row 13 for ~$80/each.

Congrats my man! I'll be a first time Dad next spring. Just found out a few weeks ago. Looking like late April, early May for us. Can't wait!

Couple Thoughts

1) The other institutions in this article come off as whiny and jealous.

2) Biff Poggi should be commended for helping underprivileged youth in his area and maximizing their talents to assist them to a better life through higher education. If he does that via football, so what.

Congressional

The National is no longer at Congressional. The membership didn't like having the tournament and giving up the better of their two courses so the pros could destroy it for a week. It has moved to TPC Potomac at Avenel Farms (literally across the street) where they held it last year.

Move to Memphis...

The WGC event is definitely moving to Memphis. That's official. Will now be called the WGC-FedEx St Jude Invitational. FedEx money is the reason, since they're the main sponsor of the Tour. I know Firestone gets a bad rap from, well just about everyone, but moving to Memphis in August, on a course few would say is better than Firestone, isn't exactly a coup for the Tour.

Word is the reason Gilbert pulled out of Tiger's event in DC, is that he wanted to sponsor an event in Detroit, but that he wanted it within the city. Lots of speculation that Detroit Golf Club is going to be the host for that reason. I'm not familiar with the course enough to comment, but I do know they have the real estate to host an event. Parking appears to be the bigger concern.

Michigan deserves a Tour event. The Buick Open was always extremely well supported and attended, as were the PGA Championships and Ryder Cup at Oakland Hills. This would be a great marriage.

Scouting Report

As someone who lives in Winston-Salem and been to a couple dozen Wake games in the last two years here’s a brief rundown of his game.

He’s really struggled with injuries for the past couple seasons, especially this past year. Woods is not a PG. He’s a 2. His ball skills aren’t great. He’s more of a “just a shooter” 2 than someone who’s going to take you off the bounce to the hoop. When healthy, he’s a solid catch-and-shoot guy. Certainly someone to close out on. He’s a solid passer but not really someone you’re going to run the offense through. Defensively he’s a liability (as was everyone on Wake sans Doral Moore tbh). He doesn’t have great lateral quickness and is susceptible to a blow by.

Overall, this is a solid pickup for OSU. He’s going to provide quality depth at a position of need. He’s a quality shooter who can score in bunches if left open, but he’s not a guy who can take over a game, or score multiple ways. He’s too jump shot reliant.

Charleston, SC

Anybody have an updated bar for Charleston, SC? I see on the map that the bar listed may be in question. Wife and I will be there this weekend. Looking for a spot to watch the Final Four game.

Triad Alumni Association

The Triad Alumni Association meets at Fisher's Grille downtown.

Smokey

Smokey, this is not Nam. This is bowling. There are rules.

Henry

Henry lives just a few miles from my brother -in-law in Clemmons, NC. From everything I've heard down here, the kid is a Clemson lock and has been for quite some time. There have been rumors he has been a silent commit to them for months.

WGHP

Fox 8 WGHP is our local station out of Greensboro but I would imagine this covers more than just the Triad.

Afraid so

My DIRECTV guide is currently showing the ACC Game of the Week in that time slot, so I'm afraid so.

WS

Winston-Salem

In Ann Arbor, yes

In Ann Arbor, and throughout the rest of the country, yes. But down here it won't be. My brother-in-law said Fox Sports Go is the only way he could watch MSU/OSU last weekend too.

Just hoping The Game isn't bumped

Also going

I'll be making the drive up with my wife and best friend from North Carolina. We're meeting a group of friends/family in the DC/Baltimore area. 8 of us total. Sitting in section 28.

I don't think we have our parking passes yet, but are still trying to lock that down.

fight between two siblings

This didn't feel like a "duel" at all. It felt more like a fight between two siblings, where the older sibling does his best, while the little brother pretends not to care and thus, not participate, so they don't lose again....on second thought, this makes perfect sense now.

ACC country

As someone living in ACC country, I need these. Love the first one!

Fantastic

As someone who's 2-year old niece is currently battling leukemia in the Children's Hospital at Wake Forest, I cannot commend Iowa enough for this. This incredible and really, really cool. She would absolutely LOVE this if she were able to see a football game from her hospital window, let alone have the entire crowd waving up at her.

Oh, and fuck cancer.

Seconded

I will second this list. Especially as someone who lives 10 min from Wake's campus.

Disappointing

Well that's disappointing. I was hoping the person who was dumb enough to write the letter in the first place, was also dumb enough to put their actual return address on the envelope.

Despicable

First off, this is despicable behavior. Absolutely deplorable.

Secondly, I really hope that the return address on the envelope is legit and they find this POS. Not sure they'll ever be able to prove it, but I hope they do and the person is held accountable. Surely there's a law broken somewhere here.

$200k

Actually his original goal was just $200k. It exploded on social media so quickly that he had his goal within a day (may have been quicker) and he just kept raising the goal incrementally.

Love seeing athletes use their position to help their communities. This is great! Major props to him.

Worst

These are the worst alternates yet. Worse than anything Adidas put us in.

West Virginia Wolverines. Michigan Mountaineers.

But it won't matter if they win the damn game.

Selfish reasons

For purely selfish reasons, I'll say Wake Forest. I live 10 minutes from campus and would love to play them. Plus they're a middling P5 team, so it wouldn't be as awful as scheduling a G5 team (or some of the dumpster fires the SEC schedules), but should still be an easy win.

Incredible

I read this story yesterday after I saw Angelique RT it.

What an incredible story. The first paragraph was nauseating in it's graphic detail, but the story itself and all the moving parts is unbelievably fascinating. I can't help but agree with Kollias though. If the coaches had actually done something about the actions of their star player from the get go, this all could've been avoided.

Resident

As a NC resident, I'm really happy to see Michigan playing in this state; however, I'd have been even happier if they were playing Wake Forest which is 10 minutes from my house.

Nashville

Wife and I are going to Nashville for a long weekend the 17-20. We've never been and we've heard so many good things about the city, plus it was a super cheap flight from Charlotte. Really looking forward to it, especially if the Preds win the Cup. That'll make the city even more fun.

Other than that, I plan on playing a ton of golf. As much as my wife (and wallet) will allow.

I was following along

I was following along on GolfStat and Michigan was tied with Colorado with just Van Dievot on the course playing the last hole. Needing a par or better on the last hole to make the top six and qualify for Nationals, she came through with a clutch birdie to get the team in outright. Just great stuff!! Go Blue!
