Bacon once again saying absolutely nothing of substance.  I could say Brad Stevens might consider the job if asked but nobody knows if he’ll be asked or if he’d really consider it.

Ah yes, JUB with yet another "I don't know shit but pay attention to me" posts.

Michigan is not going to be served trying to get a coach who fled college basketball 6 years ago because he didn't like the direction it was going and expecting him to step in and work in a system that's even less like the one that turned him off.

Michigan needs to find a coach for the future, not chase the past.

That would be a terrible idea hut would tell me the type of program Michigan wants. Also, why don't most of you get this dude left college basketball when he did because he didn't want to deal with the shift that was coming with transfer portal and 1 and done players? He knew he wasn't an NBA coach but knew he could get a job in the league because he was successful in college.

This is ridiculous, and pure speculation.  Beilein turns 72 this year. Beilein left college basketball bc he was fed up with the constant, shady tactics of recruiting. Beilein is not coming back.

I think UM will grab a coach certainly better than Howard.  It wont be Beilein though.

Where are all of the "Fire Warde Manual" posts?  From what I've heard, every decision (or non decision) that he makes is evidence of his incompetence.  Ergo, firing Juwan must be the wrong move.

Right?

No?

Fire Warde anyway, I guess.

Absolutely not. Many won’t remember his late departure caused us to have not many options in the coaching cycle. I loved Juwan as a player and was excited the first couple years, but it was evident that he was not prepared for this job. And Maybe the overall best take is that he might be better suited for the NBA.

But back to the point, let’s not forget JB leaving us high and dry.

I assumed that Beilein left because he didn't want to coach today's college athlete in this world of NIL and transfer portal. It's worse now than it was then.

I will gladly accept the head coaching job of the University of Michigan basketball team and I'll do it for a measly $1.5 million.  Take it or leave it.  I'll get shit canned, probably mid-season or earlier, but I would save the AD a heap of money.  And probably set the program back a little.  But the money saved would be (might be but probably not) worth it.

The reasons why Beilin left in the first place have only gotten worse.  If this was 2015, then I would be solid in believing Beilin would want to come back and excel, but unfortunately the portal and NIL would make it difficult for excellent coaches in recruiting and development to succeed now.

Hold up. I think we need to clearly determine why Beilein actually left Michigan in the first place. While he was never enthused with the future state of recruiting, it’s also claimed he had thought about taking an NBA job for a couple years prior to his departure. He also was upset that players on his last roster at Michigan chose to move on to the NBA instead of staying in school.

All this is to say that recruiting and shady recruiting tactics (which are now legal for the most part) might have played a factor in him leaving but weren’t the sole, or overarching, factors for him leaving Michigan.

Hire JB to coach and nothing else. He doesn't want to deal with the portal and recruiting so hire an entire recruiting/portal team. Let JB find some smart, young coaches in hopes to find a successor in 3 years.

I regard John Beilein highly.   And, if this was a sport - or timing - where an "interim" head coach was needed - then, I'd be 100% supportive of bringing in Beilein until the "new" head coach could be hired.

It's March - The Dance is still a week away - and, the moving chairs of college basketball coaching has barely started.   Let's let the dust settle and see what happends.

Perhaps Coach Beilein is "ok" with a short - two or three year - return to Michigan's sideline.  I wouldn't have an issue with that - but, it would seem that identifying and grooming his successor would be at, or near, the top of his to-do list, with a smooth transition at the conclusion of the term.   This might be an approach - hiring the "coach to be" along with Beilein - and, have them work together for a couple seasons.   This MIGHT work for a younger coach with no P5 experience.

JUB: says shit, knows nothing.

In just one tweet ...

  • "might" consider
  • "if" asked
  • "I don't know"
  • "Nobody knows anything"
  • "Anything could happen"

I mean seriously. He seems like an ok guy and all, but why even tweet shit like this (other than pumping social media interactions)?
