Joy At Sparty's Comeuppance, But ...

Submitted by SF Wolverine on

Holy cow does the B10 have an officiating problem.  I don't remember seeing so many blown calls on such big plays in such proximity to one another.  Replay guys are completely whiffing as often as not as well.  And, I think Sparty got "Sparty Bob'd" by the timekeeper on the last play.

I love me some Sparty tears, but the B10 needs to get this fixed, and promptly.  And, I'd be happy for them to start Sunday by saying publicly "yeah, Sparty, you got f'd -- deal with it."

as per the Final Drive

The question of was there contact between the DB and the WR at all.

So long as there was *any* contact, the officials' judgment that it was contact sufficient to warrant the call stands.

If they reviewed and saw there was no contact at all, the call could have been overturned because you can't judge the contact to be sufficient to make that call if there is no contact in the first place.

Slight segue while we're on this topic. Did anyone see the targeting call in the game day game last week? Basically a player made a tackle and the hit itself caused a helmet to helmet contact. Upon review it was deemed targeting even though it seemed really benign. However the thing was that ESPN's rules expert claimed they could only review whether there was helmet to helmet contact (even though I swear I have seen instances where this is not the case). This seems like the reason why Bolden's targeting was not overturned.

If what you say is true, that makes perfect sense. From what you are saying, a real-time bad call could eject a player and the replay official cannot review if he was pushed or tripped? Wow. That right there needs to be corrected. You are not talking about 15 yard penalty. You are talking about kicking a player out. That is a terrible rule.

That's the first explanation I've heard of targeting reviews that would make sense of the terrible Bolden call -- it'd be a stupid rule, but it would make sense of that play anyway. But I'm not sure it'd make sense of all the no-targeting replay decisions on Rudock this year (and I'm not thinking here of the no-calls, just the couple of calls that were made on the field then reversed).

Pretty bad sign that I'd need to make that clarification...

I think the whole programs vibe eminates from Dantonio at the top. The sniveling, "I'm always disrespected", not showing respect for anyone else, not acting like a program that's been there, etc. Mork does all that stuff and so do their players and their fans. It's woven into their program by the guy leading it

you aren't watching any other football than michigan games.

I said this during the game thread, you see this kind of crap in every conference, every week.  It's not a B10 problem, it's an NCAA problem.

Obviously a Buckeye fan here, but you guys should look at Plaxico Burress' twitter meltdown after that game lol.  Hilarious.  As was Jemele Hills.  God I hate her.

I'm going to guess that they're ignoring the fact that they got torched by Nebraska (Nebraska!). That there was no particular reason to believe that Sparty could have stopped them on the next play if the referees had correclty called the illegal touching penalty on the Huskers?  And that their quarterback managed to run the last couple of seconds off of the clock by heaving the ball into the stands instead of throwing it at some dude's feet.

Instead, I'd wager they're whining about officiating.

Am I close? ;-)

You are endearing yourself to us. Please, do not do that. I hate visualizing Buckeye fans as anything other than face-painted, mouth-breathing fools. Comments like this help to shatter such a mental image. Again, please do not do that to me.

Taunting Halloween costumes and memes of crying Michigan fans etc there is no high ground high enough.

They are a dumb and shallow fan base. They barely beatbus and 2 Crap teams I'd like to see them whine about this for a while.

It wouldn't be a surprise if they were, but you can bet Sparty Nation (Sparty County?) will feel the disrespekt if it happens.

If Michigan's not ahead of MSU this week, they certainly will be after MSU gets pantsed by the Buckeyes*.

Go Blue!

* Should Michigan hold serve, mind you; certainly there are no guarantees.

It was a terrible call, and the B1G does need to fix this shit. However, fuck Sparty and it's about god damned time a bad call bit them in the ass. No sympathy. None.

By giving up two long pass plays, they put themselves in the position to be at the mercy of the refs in an iffy, non-reviewable judgment call. It might've been tough, but was entirely avoidable over the course of the previous 59 minutes against a 3-6 team. Shit happens. Luck runs out. Drink your medicine.
