Josh Henschke: "Jim Harbaugh and #Michigan is near the finish line"

Josh Henschke thinks it's a deal Jim Harbaugh will sign. But it's not a "done deal".

"Don't mean nothin' till you sign it on the dotted line."

But  Josh Henschke is a pretty good source. So maybe the wait is over, and for the last time.

Yes.  I think he wants to win wherever he goes, and for him it’s a pretty clear calculation:  If it’s the NFL he doesn’t want more impediments to winning the Super Bowl than he has now with winning the college football Championship (to say nothing of the B1G).  So likely he’d be selective about NFL offers, too.  Not just any one would do.

I think, unfortunately, this means we’re in for years of this.  But if it’s this, or a coach no one wants, seems ok.

Well….if this was all Harbaughs way of making sure  his assistants get paid well and Michigan pull its head of its ass around NIL…then fine. It was worth it. Getting NIL right and building stability in the program is important to winning the next decade of college football.

If this was mostly about getting Harbaugh his money and agreeing to a reasonable buyout….then fine. It’s annoying, but fine. It was worth it. Still really annoying and likely harmed our recruiting and  coulda shoulda been handled sooner and quieter but still fine.

If this was about Jim really wanting to try out the NFL again, then for god sakes can we be done with this shit for a while? Can we just get him to commit to a 3–5 year plan with a named coach in waiting and a buyout to prevent it from getting shortcutted?

Agreed. I've felt like last year was getting his contract corrected after the previous 'adjustment' by Warde. I felt like this go-round is more about being competitive for CFP and chasing titles, vis a vis well paid assistants and NIL. I feel like a side to this is the power play against Warde. I'm probably wrong, but I think Warde will take a different job and Santa will hire a new AD that will be more supportive of the current landscape.

Anson said about 6 hours ago that it “sounded” like there was a ”handshake deal.” But I wasn’t going to create a thread on one thing that may or may not be true. But now that it’s coming from other sources it sounds like it is coming together.

Good, but I just wonder what the staff is telling recruits. 2 straight yrs of NFL flirtation has to be a hard sell. This is apart of the game, but it’s slowly killing my love for cfb.

I get too worked about things during a game and find it hard too control my emotions when we aren’t playing well. But with so much else going wrong with CFB - although I must admit the game itself is probably better than ever - I can’t get too worked up about click-generating online drama surrounding Harbaugh’s negotiation of a new contract. Any coach can leave any time - think Lincoln Riley - and players are now essentially free agents every year. I went out coach to stay, and I would prefer that this not happen again and again, but what can you do about it? An emotional blowout game last 4 hours or so - and the hangover maybe a day or two after that. I can’t let myself get drawn into worrying day after day about something I can’t control and about which I know absolutely nothing.

Don’t you ever, ever quote a Richard Marx song in here again, even if it applies. Do you understand me? I need you to say that you understand me.

This tweet is exactly the kind that makes people mistrust reporters. If you read it multiple times, it really says nothing and hedges both ways.

When Anison came out Friday at 5:30 with “news upcoming” I knew damn well nothing happens on weekends or at night. It’ll be Monday at the earliest and if they are still “close” and Monday is a holiday, my guess is Wednesday or Thursday at the earliest. If it gets to Friday afternoon, fast forward to the next week. Essentially it’s not done and nobody knows jack crap

If/when this gets done I wonder if Warde will harbor any ill feelings because Santa got involved. In Bo’s first book he said Canham was pissed after other people got involved to boost his pay to keep him from going to A&M.If I remember Canham low balled him and was gonna let him walk.
