Josh Henschke: "Jim Harbaugh and #Michigan is near the finish line"

Josh Henschke thinks it's a deal Jim Harbaugh will sign. But it's not a "done deal".

"Don't mean nothin' till you sign it on the dotted line."

But  Josh Henschke is a pretty good source. So maybe the wait is over, and for the last time.

Of course, it could all be true:
- Jim Harbaugh really, really, really wants to win a Super Bowl.
- Jim Harbaugh really, really wants to win a championship at Michigan.
- Jim Harbaugh really wants assistant salaries, NIL, and other institutional support.
- Jim Harbaugh wants the fiscal recognition for the job he's done here.

I have little doubt that all of those are true.  My gut feeling is that the emphasis is in where I've placed the "reallys" above; YMMV.  (One counter-indicator, FWIW, is that last year he was up front with recruits about "Yes, I'm interested in NFL jobs"; this year, recruits have reported he believed he would be coaching Michigan next year.)

Assuming that winning a Super Bowl is the high point on his list, we will have to deal with this every year, because right now, Michigan needs Harbaugh more than Harbaugh needs Michigan.

We are probably fortunate that Jacksonville started their coaching search early last year, because otherwise that would like a decent shot:  a franchise mis-managed into oblivion but with a franchise QB, good draft capital, and desperate to move one.  Plus he would have the chance to show up Urban Meyer in the best possible way - "takin' his'uns and winning".

To those saying “Harbaugh/UM need to stop this talk with a big buyout…”, what are you drinking?

What $ figure would be high enough to ward (lol) off any talk of an NFL job?

$20M? Anything else would be peanuts to an NFL team that really wanted him.

And why would JH sign if it meant he’s potentially ”stuck” in the future working in a job (or for a boss) he doesn’t like?

We’ll be fine with recruiting. And I love what UM is doing in the portal.

I know Jim interviewing NFL frustrates the recruiting but there is a need to keep assistants and get  a solid contract. Harbaugh getting an agent means you listen to his advice. I’m confident the buyout will be big and hopeful the money is the best in the Big. Accomplishing those things will make this the last year we see this.

The only thing that concerns me is the possibility that the NCAA goes over the deep end on Michigan. I think we all want to see the damage sooner than later.

I believe alot of this is about the assistant pool. Im not sure how much Sherrone or Minter get paid but Rutger just gave 1.4 mil to their new OC.

Well no, not for the last time. But it is what it is. He's a top-5 ish coach, and I'm glad to have him.

He has made some great self-improvements that have put me on his side. I hope he continues to self-evaluate and realizes that he can improve some things. Then he'll be a top-3 coach, perhaps second only to Saban.

This just in. According to Santa Ono, JH is coming back. Warde Manual appears to be a bystander in this entire thing. Maybe Ono should do both jobs snd save the university some money.
