I really enjoy the silly season.

JJ going #2 overall?  Yeah, I'm not buying it.  I think he'll go top 20, probably even top 15.  I don't think he'll go top 5.

It's very interesting that there is so much online speculation about JJ and absolutely zero about Maye or Daniels. Part of that is Harbaugh pumping his tires every chance he gets, but I also wonder if there's something else going on. Historically teams have been wary of anybody coming out of college with a relatively small number of pass attempts, but now the thinking has turned 180 degrees.

Mike Tannenbaum floated the idea today that Arizona might be looking to trade Kyler to Minnesota and draft JJ at 4. That would be way out of left field. Now he had dinner with the Washington brain trust the other night and the new owner apparently fell in love with him. But I suspect Peters is trying to drum up interest for a desperate Trey Lance-like move.

.Will be fascinating to see how it plays out. I think Williams will be decent in Chicago but not the savior they're expecting. Maye will be a total bust. His footwork is atrocious, and he's going to be late or off with most of his throws. Daniels could be very good but not in New England with that line. I don't know where JJ will end up, but I think the team that drafts him will be very happy long-term. I'm hoping it's a team I can just quietly root for.

I’m sure you’re hearing the same chatter I am up here. I think a lot of the reason he’s getting talked about is because it’s just kind of assumed that the top three guys are going to fly off the board, but JJ is also a top-ten type guy and there’s a lot more intrigue with teams potentially moving around to get him. It’s just seemingly more obvious that Maye or Daniels are gone in the top five, and since there are other teams that need QBs, it’s a credit to JJ that he’s a guy worth moving up for.

As a Commanders fan, this is exciting and I’m hoping they don’t screw it up. Last year they basically didn’t have a first round pick because the guy they took in the first, may have been available in the second. The guy they took in the second would’ve probably been available in the third, and so on.

I hope he does not go to the Commanders.  They have been a tire fire of a franchise and could ruin any quarterback.  I hope he goes to anywhere with any semblance of a logical organization, and the Commanders are not that.

There's always intrigue and uncertainty around the draft, with teams having an incentive to be secretive and deceptive about their true intentions. Teams float rumors that they love some player when they really intend to draft someone else or prefer to trade out of a spot.

This year the rumors and speculation are already ramped up and will spin out of control because of the strong QB class, the assessment that there are 4 top tier QBs that could go in the top 5-10 picks, the fact that the top 3 teams need QBs and that a number of teams farther down might be motivated to trade up.

JJ is key to all this because of his late rising status and disagreement about where he ranks in the top QB group. So he's going to be the focus of more speculation and rumors than anyone. Teams with the top picks will want to give the impression that they are going to take him to increase the trade value of their pick.

Recent mocks have him going to Washington or New England, or have Minnesota, Denver, or the Giants trading up. I've even seen one where Arizona takes JJ at #4 and trades Kyler Murray.

The most interesting thing to me about recent mocks is Nix and Penix falling out of the first round in just about all of them.

I like McCarthy quite a bit but #2 would be a weird spot for him - I don't think he's shown a higher ceiling than Maye, and assuming Williams is taken first it would feel a bit like a reach.

McCarthy at #4 to Minnesota or even the Pats at #3 feels better - Drake Maye is a really good QB and, selfishly, I'd rather put McCarthy on a team with a brighter future than a mediocre Commanders team where he's going to get sacked a billion times.

We must have been watching different Drake Maye's because I can't see a higher ceiling from the Maye I watched.  In fact, I can't even see as high a floor from the Maye I watched.  In fact, I can't see the Maye I watched winning 13 games in 2023 as Michigan's QB, let alone all 15.  The Maye I watched would have lost the PSU and OSU games, and probably the Maryland game, as well.  Forget the playoff - wouldn't have been in it.

For the life of me, I can't see why Maye has been included in the top group of QB's for two years.  I just don't see it.

Remember JJ as a frosh? Raw talent noticeable immediately. My son said he should have been starter from day 1 a long time ago. Tom Brady was without a doubt our best passer. Denard was our best runner. JJ is the best combination of Brady & Denard we have ever had. It is known.

One thing  is certain JJ's stock has risen with the combine, pro day and interview and not just the hype. Mel Kiper jr. Had him at the 23rd best overall talent. He now has him at 15.

It seems a lot of teams are jostling for position to get McCarthy. If he doesn't go top 3, Atlanta, Denver, the Vikings, the Giants and maybe the Cardinals could go for JJ.

Scouts like him overall, but they don’t love him. NFL.com has JJ as an eventual starter. They don’t see him as an elite prospect. Based on that I think this is silly season.

I’m not buying this for JJ.  Bears will take Caleb Williams, Commanders will take Jayden Daniels, Pats take Drake Maye, Cardinals take MHJ and then the Vikings will take JJ at 5 (trade with Chargers).

This is what I believe is not only the most likely scenario, but is the best situation for JJ.  Fingers crossed! 🤞

Does everyone realize that Dan Snyder isn't running the Commanders anymore? I think the arrow is pointing up on the franchise. Also I'm not worried where JJ lands (I'd prefer not the Pats because that franchise is clearly on the downswing). I think he is the best QB prospect based on all factors: arm, mobility, accuracy, ability to read defenses, calm under pressure, and work ethic, and he doesn't have to be dropped into a perfect situation to succeed.

Dan Snyder was perhaps the worst combination of person/owner/GM (he called the shots on draft day) in sports history. The cheerleaders scandal, toxic workplace, coaching hires, etc. were a disaster.

JJ's best landing points are likely Denver or Minny - hoping the Vikes even though they are a division rival. JJ is also a great guy to build around in the locker room too.

I think that might be some smoke being put off by Washington to get Minny to offer a huge haul, and then use some of the picks to end up at 5 and take Maye anyway.

In the end, I think Minny trades up to 5 and drafts JJ as the 4th QB in the top 5. JH then has a lot of 1st and 2nd picks to draft guys like Odunze, Kris Jenkins, etc.
