Jake Long takes shot at Harbaugh
I love this. @JuwanHoward is everything you want in a leader and coach. Great job coach! Our football program should take some notes. https://t.co/Mji0EvCdXz

I get that Juwan is getting the new coach bump in recruiting but the dichotomy between the two programs couldn’t be more stark atm.
January 4th, 2020 at 7:29 PM ^
Yes, one team is 10-3 and the other is 9-4. Huge.
January 4th, 2020 at 8:19 PM ^
The bb team is in a rebuild year and was picked to finish middle of the pack of the B1G. The fb team was picked to win the B1G and make the playoff.
January 4th, 2020 at 9:04 PM ^
Hope the BB continues success but let’s wait u til the season is over before we compare them to football team
January 5th, 2020 at 5:39 PM ^
I still don’t understand why people were so sure we would beat Ohio State this year.
I also don’t get why the people who are rightly upset that we are clearly below the Ohio State/Bama/Clemson etc tier expect us to beat these teams. They are better than us yet we are surprised when we lose?
Criticize Harbaugh for not getting us there if you want but part of the problem has been assuming that we were on that level this year. We weren’t and I don’t know how people looked at this team in the summer and thought this was a playoff team.
January 4th, 2020 at 7:44 PM ^
Basketball is ranked 12 and football is ranked 14.
January 4th, 2020 at 8:13 PM ^
Not for long
January 4th, 2020 at 10:27 PM ^
Football likely doesn't fall far after a hard fought game against Bama. I'm guessing still in the teens.
The main difference between the football team and the basketball team is the expectation of the fanbase.
January 4th, 2020 at 8:24 PM ^
The football team won't be ranked 14 for long.
We will probably drop in the final AP and coaches polls
January 4th, 2020 at 7:49 PM ^
Maybe he’s just a good recruiter? I keep reading “new coach bump” but I think it’s too early to say, and perhaps unfair.
January 4th, 2020 at 8:06 PM ^
This is also true. In about 7 mos he’s pulling in kids that usually take years to form relationships with so this really could just be the new normal under Howard.
January 4th, 2020 at 8:10 PM ^
Come on, Cube. It’s year six with Harbaugh and he’s pulling in plenty of under the radar recruits from Massachusetts and from small towns in Michigan. The program is fine, just ask the posters here.

Both are top ten programs. I agree that the basketball program is in a better place but the dichotomy is not vast
January 4th, 2020 at 7:26 PM ^
Thanks Jake. Thanks for the help.
January 4th, 2020 at 7:27 PM ^
I don’t see how it’s that much of a shot?
January 4th, 2020 at 7:28 PM ^
Yeah I don’t see that being much of a shot either.
January 4th, 2020 at 7:32 PM ^
You guys don't think that is a shot? He is specifically praising BBall coach (Howard) and criticizing/rebuking the Football Coach (Harbaugh). I think it is a shot since he is specifically calling him out.
January 4th, 2020 at 7:33 PM ^
He’s not specifically calling him out. He says “the football program.” This is in response to a video in which Juwan speaks about staying humble.
January 4th, 2020 at 7:35 PM ^
Not trying to argue with you, but the football team is Harbaugh. The only thing he doesn't do is use his name, but I think it is obvious this is directed to Harbaugh.
January 4th, 2020 at 7:41 PM ^
No, the football program isn’t just Harbaugh. It’s 100+ guys who are going to begin offseason conditioning soon. They need to be dedicated. They can’t rest on their laurels. Think about what was said about our quarterback last offseason.
January 4th, 2020 at 8:36 PM ^
Um... which laurels could they rest upon?
January 4th, 2020 at 7:30 PM ^
Really? He says Juwan is a great leader and coach (I agree) and then says the football program could take notes. Who do you think the leader and coach of the football team is? Why add that unless making the point that the football team does NOT have a great coach and leader. How could you interpret this as anything but a direct shot at Harbaugh?
January 4th, 2020 at 7:45 PM ^
Are you Harbaugh’s lawyer or bitch?
January 4th, 2020 at 7:53 PM ^
Can you read? I didn't say one way or the other whether it was justified or not -- there are other threads for that. I was responding with disbelief that some didn't think it was a shot at Harbaugh.
January 4th, 2020 at 7:56 PM ^
Are you in 5th grade or 6th?
January 4th, 2020 at 7:58 PM ^
Are you in 5th grade or 6th?
January 4th, 2020 at 7:34 PM ^
Unquestionably a shot.
January 4th, 2020 at 7:35 PM ^
Seriously?
He says Juwan is a great leader and the football program should take notes. Directly implying that its leader (That’s Jim Harbaugh BTW) ISN’T a great one.
How much more direct does he need to be?
January 4th, 2020 at 7:47 PM ^
Scotchy Scotch Scotch. I love scotch.
January 4th, 2020 at 7:29 PM ^
Get off your retired ass and come work for Warinner!
January 4th, 2020 at 7:31 PM ^
If you look at the post he’s responding to, it’s really not a shot.
January 4th, 2020 at 8:40 PM ^
It's a Long shot.
January 4th, 2020 at 9:01 PM ^
Bravo. If MgoPoints mattered or actually worked, you deserve all of em.
January 4th, 2020 at 7:32 PM ^
It's sort of a shot. But neither as coach has a BIG championship so...
January 4th, 2020 at 7:53 PM ^
Just like Jakes career...
January 4th, 2020 at 8:22 PM ^
Jake won one in 2004
January 4th, 2020 at 8:41 PM ^
Shared with Iowa, finished 10-3 and ranked 14th and lost to OSU.
January 4th, 2020 at 8:00 PM ^
Uh, wait five years and see how many B1G championships Juwan has. I'm betting more than one, given how recruiting is going.
January 4th, 2020 at 8:18 PM ^
I hope you're right! All the Coach JH's are belong to us and I want them all/both to kick ass.
January 4th, 2020 at 7:34 PM ^
I think Juwan is great but he hasn't won anything yet. Kind of bizarre to make this statement right now.
January 4th, 2020 at 7:39 PM ^
What statement? Do you even understand the context?
He didn't say anything wrong.
January 4th, 2020 at 7:40 PM ^
Hmm....that's an interesting point. But you could, potentially argue that Howard's win over #1 Gonzaga, on a neutral court, is better than any win Harbaugh has. Not saying it for sure is (it's still early in the season) but Howard does have that tournament win at Atlantis and some pretty great wins under his belt. To say he hasn't won anything isn't really true IMHO.
January 4th, 2020 at 8:44 PM ^
You wouldn't think it was bizarre if you clicked through the link and watched the video of Juwan's comment that Long was referring to. Juwan is talking about an attitude and it's that attitude Long seems to be saying the football team needs to replicate.
January 4th, 2020 at 8:50 PM ^
Year Five for Harbaugh and what has the 7 million dollar man won?
January 4th, 2020 at 7:38 PM ^
Rather than throw shade at Harbaugh...I just love the quote. Especially with him talking about Izzo.
January 4th, 2020 at 7:38 PM ^
It seems like this is a Rorschach test for fans - if you’re mad at Harbaugh, it’s a shot and if you’re not, he’s telling the football guys to stay humble.
January 4th, 2020 at 7:51 PM ^
What does the football team need to stay humble about?
January 4th, 2020 at 8:15 PM ^
Revenge Tour, Higdon guaranteeing a win vs Ohio, Don Brown telling Ohio they better watch out, Harbaugh's "shining moment" quote, Kalis's "blood on the field" quote, Khaleke Hudson saying our talent is better than Ohio weeks after they waxed us.
Our players and some coaches have a REALLY bad habit of saying dumb shit that bites us in the ass. We should never say anything about Ohio unless it's about how much we respect them until we've at least beaten them once
