Interesting / Weird Harbaugh tidbit - Re: Isaiah Wilson

Submitted by I Just Blue Myself on August 4th, 2020 at 4:16 PM

Isaiah Wilson (former George OL many thought would be Blue) was on Taylor Lewan's podcast, and mentioned why he decommitted from Alabama and ultimately committed to Georgia rather than UM.

He said after committing to Alabama, Nick Saban, instead of giving him a hug, offered a handshake, and Wilson essentially made his decision to decommit from Bama on the spot. In regards to Harbaugh, he decided against committing to Michigan because Harbaugh wore cleats while in Wilson's house.

Isaiah Wilson in his own words - "Remember when they first got the deal with Jordan? He (Harbaugh) just wouldn't take off his cleats. He came to my in-home visit with cleats on his feet. And I have hardwood floors. And he's just walking around with cleats bro. After that, it was over."

Chalk it up to a funny story.

His sister got an admin job somewhere at the University of Georgia.   That said,  if someone wore cleats on my hardwood floors I would not be happy.   Everyone who has played football (or any cleated sport) knows you don't wear cleats inside.  They scuff up floors and/or drag in turf all over the place.

I checked the moderator action sticky and apparently Barstool has also been banned on this site?

I get Chatsports completely, I get Rainer Sabin sort of - he's a troll but let's laugh about him being one is my view.  Barstool I'm tangentially familiar with as they enter my worldview with clips/links/stories and what not through other things I read.  I know they have a rough reputation, some really dislike them, some love them; I know they say Fuck a lot.  But are they Banned worthy?  It doesn't seem so.  I could have missed something, though.

I've heard that, I know who he is and some of the stories.  I've never looked into it in detail because I don't care that much, and won't ask you why you believe so for the same reason.

But if that's the metric, a lot sites need to be banned.  There is a tremendous number of pricks running a countless number of things.

Yeah. I don’t care that much either. I don’t read all that many sports sites anyway. Just saying, based on the stories I’ve read, he’s a grade A asshole, and that’s probably why the deletion. I wouldn’t want to give that site clicks either.

I can see why that might annoy a person, but that is not the reason he never committed to Michigan. That is a weak-ass reason.

Frankly, I don’t care what his reasons were. If they offered you money, fine. If you thought Georgia would legitimately give you a better shot to win titles and make it to the league, that’s perfectly fine, too. Hell, if you just hate the cut of Harbaugh’s jib and think he rubs you the wrong way, then that’s fine too. Not everyone is going to like him. But you’re not in college anymore. The NCAA can’t touch you, whatever your reasons are. Just don’t offer up some soft ass excuse.

Honest question, why don't they just report it as earned income to the IRS? As far as I know its not against federal law to accept money from people for services. Just sign a picture and say it was an autograph fee. It might violate a specific contract with the NCAA or the school you attend, but the IRS don't care. The NCAA has no business looking at my tax returns, how would they ever find out?

Well first of all they'd have to pay taxes on it, don't want to do that (I know you know that).  Second of all it probably comes from the bagmen with a stipulation that you don't talk about it with anyone, and to the extent these guys just gave them money, they probably are fine with that type of "honor" agreement.  Related to that, they know if they write it down somewhere the bagman can get caught on it (assuming he's not putting it on his taxes/records), and they don't want to get the guy that paid them in trouble.  Finally they know the school can get busted, and they don't want to have any penalty come down on what's going to be a place that they love.

Players may not talk about it now because of the issues it could create for the bagman. At best it could be a gift tax issue, it could also be money an entrepreneur kept off the books as part of a cash-based business. At worst, the money was laundered from organized crime and the player may be in deeper than he wants to know.

some of you may have seen the Netflix show about the Mafia running NYC. The main Mafia guy they interview with the suit is Michael Franzese. He used to come speak to all the athletes to show us how he used to get athletes on his payroll back in the day. As early as high school/college he was giving them cars and cash and it all seemed cool until the players realized they were in too deep and had to fix games or be in serious trouble with dangerous people.

The most common scam was to give the athlete a car. Unbeknownst to the athlete the car was in his name and getting refinanced over and over again until the athlete’s credit was ruined and the car was about to be repossessed. Then they would come to him and ask for money, or favors, including point shaving, to make the problem go away.

People shouldn't neg this post - the other thread was removed, so no way for this OP to know it was already posted.

In any case, I'll repeat what I said there: follow the wonderful Asian example and take off your shoes when you enter someone's home, and ask guests to remove them as they enter yours.  There are things outside that piss and shit on the ground, along with gas/oil/dirt/chemicals - there's no reason to bring that in your house.

Here's proof with links to two studies: https://www.insider.com/why-you-shouldnt-wear-shoes-in-the-house

I mean sure, if they asked Harbaugh to remove his shoes and he didn’t I can see why that would rub them the wrong way. But if they didn’t ask, that’s on them. Not everyone is bothered by shoes being on in the house. It certainly doesn’t bother me with my house. I don’t care if someone wears shoes in my house as long as they didn’t obviously just walk through a huge puddle of mud or dogs shit. Yes, it is very common with Asian families to make the request, but not everyone here is Asian.

So if the Wilson family didn’t like it that he had his shoes on, fine. And sure, Harbaugh could’ve asked if they’d like him to. But it was their responsibility to ask so if they didn’t, it’s on them.

And I keep my floors clean too, pal. I’ve got two shedding dogs who dirty it all up anyway, so we sweep and swiffer several times a week. It’s a personal preference, and I don’t care if people keep their shoes on. If you do care about it your own house, that’s fine. But I don’t. If you don’t like it, I’ll make sure to not invite you over.

You're missing the point... the onus for taking shoes off is on the guest, not an awkward request from the home owner for the guests to take their shoes off. Unless instructed otherwise, always assume people don't want your shoes on their flooring.. it's pretty simple.

Harbaugh wore fucking CLEATS in the kid's house... that's insane. If Ryan Day lost a recruit because he wore cleats in a recruits house, you'd have a field day with it.. not defend it. It's hilarious to anyone who isn't a Harbaugh devotee.

Let’s just agree to disagree and leave it at that. I’m not going to convince you and you’re not going to convince me. My last point was completely independent of Harbaugh. I don’t care if people wear shoes inside my house. It’s my house, and if you don’t like it, then that is your problem. I won’t invite you over if it bothers you that much.

If a guest wants to take them off, that’s perfectly fine. I won’t stop them. If they don’t take them off, then they don’t. They’re my guest and that’s their prerogative. Again, I’ve got two dogs running all over the house shedding and dragging dirt in anyway, so I’m not going to get anal about someone maybe bringing in dirt on their shoes.

You make the rules for your house and I’ll make the rules for mine. Sound good?

I've mentioned this before, but I talked with some people at Poly Prep after Isaiah committed. It wasn't a football thing, I'm not an insider, I'm terrible at CounterStrike, caveats apply, etc. but as we were talking the subject came up. They gave me the strong impression that it was $$$. They did not say so directly. But that was my strong impression.
