Hunter Dickinson Appreciation Thread: Pt 6

I love this team so much, but without HD holding them together, we would most likely be 4-2. Let’s get some BANGS for the young man!!

I had no idea what to expect from him this year. I most certainly wouldn’t have predicted that he’d be carrying the team on his back before it’s even 2021.

I have been repeating someone’s line for years that you need to be patient with bigs because it takes them a year or two to adjust to this level. Hunter is wrecking that notion. So glad the young man chose Michigan. (Thank you, Juwan).

definitely playing a lot better than i thought this early in his career... he is a bit older than the TFr label would suggest, but that said he's would still be considered playing at a high level if he were a sophomore.

He's really been the steadying force for the team as guys like Livers and Franz seem to be a bit inconsistent so far...

In comparison Mark Williams (who not a few on this board preferred as a recruit, finished with 2 points in 7 minutes of the Duke vs. Illinois game.

We are quite fortunate to have gotten the better (at least in year one) of the two recruits.

I am always so used to the missed easy layup.  Hunter does not know what that means.  EASILY the best we've had for quite some time.  That's 100% Talent.

I believe he sticks around at least two years and works with improving his outside game. That said he is by far the most fundamentally sound and hardest worker on this team.Watch him when he's out there. He is always moving, always setting good screens, always blocking out, and always working for position on the block. He actually should be getting the ball more. We have a couple of players that clearly miss when he has worked to an advantage underneath the rim. So nice to see a young guy that has obviously been well coached and shows it through how he plays the game. Sure hope his strong play keeps up and wish we had more guys that were expending that much energy.

And he makes most of his free throws.  It's a huge plus for a big man that has low post moves and draws contact on the regular.

I truly hope HD sticks around at least one more year to complement the incoming freshman phenoms.  Next year's squad will be young but extremely talented.  We need HD's experience back to help the young guys along.

It was a bit of a surprise to see him pulled for defensive possessions within the last 90 seconds or so with Terrence Williams coming in at the 5.  It obviously worked out, and Williams brought energy and made an impact on D.  It just seemed curious that a guy who had only played a minute or so all game, at a wing position, and has not played the 5 all year, came in to defend the rim in a 2 pt game.

Dickinson had 4 fouls at this point and PSU was in the double bonus - so maybe Howard didnt want to risk going into OT without Dickinson?

Side note - I hope they can find a way to keep Williams involved as the rotation gets tightened during conference play.  Love his energy and he does an excellent job creating angles with his post feeds.  Have a feeling he'll be a major contributor over the next several years.

I think you are right--Howard was saving Dickinson for OT in case Penn State scored.  If Dickinson tries to block a shot and fouls, not only is he gone but the free throws tie the game.

And honestly, in that situation, the WORST outcome is an uncontested 3-pointer, and Williams is clearly better if he gets switched out onto the perimeter.

The crazy thing is, I think HD has a lot of room to get stronger.  He already plays very strong, but I bet with an offseason of Camp Sanderson he could be a monster.

HD is the MVP so far in this young season.  But the turnovers need to be addressed quickly.  Three HDs on our team will not save us from 15+ turnovers against better competition.
