How not to behave on Twitter

Submitted by snarling wolverine on January 20th, 2023 at 7:13 AM

After yesterday's game, this man of genius - who apparently is employed by the university - thought it was cool to tweet at Dug McDaniel, telling him "please transfer."

Do not be this guy.

Disappointed about the game?  Guess what, the players are 100 times more disappointed than you are.

Although I’m old enough to remember when the NIT was a 14-team tournament played in Madison Square Garden in New York City and Southern Illinois with future NBA Hall of Famer Walt Frazier as the MVP beat Saint Peter’s, Duke, Rutgers and Marquette to win the 1967 NIT, I haven’t really cared much about the NIT in many years.

My lack of interest in the NIT even made me overlook the fact that teams no longer have to have a record of .500 or above to qualify for the 32-team NIT, but of the teams that played in the 2022 NIT, only one team had a record that wasn’t above .500 (Alcorn State was 15-15).

It doesn’t look like this Michigan team will have an easy chance to finish at or above .500 this season, but if they finish with a .500 or better record, yet don't qualify for the NCAA Tournament and they want to play in the NIT, then I’ll most likely watch their NIT games.

That's a really good point. I can imagine it would be pretty demoralizing to make getting to the NBA your life's goal, tear up the competition as a freshman in college, but then realize that's basically your ceiling as NBA teams don't see you as draft pick. How do you mentally recover from that, especially with Hunter's personality? I could see it taking a few years to come to terms with it, and by that time you're out of college.

Anyone else find it a bit ironic that in a post calling out someone for shitting on a Michigan basketball player after a poor performance the board immediately shits on a different Michigan basketball player for poor performance?

Your point is well taken and I would never call out a player on twitter myself, (I have criticized players on this board). One by-product of openly paying players, is that the  the "grown people shouldn't be calling out college athletes" as opposed to pro athletes, loses much of its force.

Agreed.  People complaining about Hunter's defensive effort last night?  He was the best player on the floor for Michigan, both offensively and defensively.  19 points, 10 rebounds, 3 blocks.  If you think someone else was better, please enlighten me.  Sure, Hunter can and should defend better against guys driving the lane.  But to be fair he doesn't get much help from the other four guys on the floor with him.

Team rebounding is abysmal.  We are giving up way too many offensive rebounds and second chance points.  It's been a problem all season and is primarily the reason we lost last night, IMO.

Yeah seems like competition has caught up to Hunter.

Idk how people can be mad at Dug. He's literally doing what freshmen PGs do which is be inconsistent. But when he's on, it's usually a Michigan dub.

Unfortunately Howard is a bit snake bitten when it comes to guard recruiting and retention similar to Harbaugh w/ QBs (outside of JJ).

I feel like Hunter doesnt even try half the time because hes trying to avoid getting a foul called on him. Its frustrating but in the end if the offense could consistently score from the 3...or even drive to the basket, it would probably open hunter up.

Did he complain about it recently?  I vaguely remember him saying something over the summer.

When people complain about regression, what exactly are they talking about?

Dickinson - Fr: 14.1 ppg / 7.4 rbds / 0.9 asts / 1.4 blcks.  59.8 FG% / 0.0 3Pt%

Dickinson - Soph.: 18.6 ppg / 8.6 rbds / 2.3 asts / 1.5 blcks.  56.3 FG% / 32.8 3Pt%

Dickinson - Jr: 17.8 ppg / 8.9 rbds / 1.1 asts / 1.8 blcks.  57.5 FG% / 41.7 3Pt%

It's fair to say he hasn't improved from last year, but he also has not regressed.  He is still playing at an all Big Ten level.  IMO, going from two seniors in the back court (Jones / Eli) to a Fr and Soph (Dug / Kobe) has had an impact on our ability to get him good looks in the post.  Not to mention Jett, who is not a great entry passer.

As someone who's pretty annoyed by Hunter Dickinson's antics at this point, this is a dumb comment, especially after yesterday where he clearly wasn't the problem.

He's been outspoken about NIL (rightfully).  He's also at worst Michigan's second best player.  As the OP said, I guarantee the players care more than you do.

Thank you, Camren (if that is your real name) for proving something I've long believed.

No matter where you look, in whatever gender, age group, ethnicity, occupation, geographic location, or whatever sub-section of society, there is one thing that will always be true:

You can always find a dick.

Makes me sick.

And these guys read that stuff and truly take it to heart. They grew up in a social media age where it's their prime vehicle for communication, community, and gathering news and info. They're not just going to "get off social media."

...and they shouldn't have to.

It's idiots like this who should have to "get off social media." Fuck that guy.
