What confuses me is- all of a sudden every Lions fan seems to be so happy for Stafford. What happened to all the Couch GMs, with their pitchforks, that wanted Stafford out of town on the first bus, plane, or riding mower? Where are those thousands of geniuses at today?

??

I don’t remember that being the case. Our fan base had criticized him, and a lot of those critiques were justified (for instance, he made a terrible throw in this game that should’ve been picked in the 4th)…but most of the base understood that while has never Rodgers/Brady level great, has always been really good and never the problem.

I wanted him traded, but only b/c the org needed a reboot. I wanted to see him in a structured environment, and it worked out well. I’m very happy for him.

Those "geniuses" were few but really loud and at least one was still trashing him on the radio a few weeks back.

I for one, agree with the posts just above.  I love it when loud mouths are proved wrong.  What kind of person is so evil or ignorant as to put the outcome of a football game on the back of one person?

Brad Johnson and Trent Dilfer were out of the league the year after winning a Super Bowl so I fail to understand why the concern falls so heavily on the QB.

Both those guys were journeymen at best, but they were in the league for another half dozen years after they won the Super Bowl. Johnson in particular started for Tampa the year after before losing his job to Brian Griese, and started for the Vikings for about a season and a half. Dilfer was mostly a backup in Seattle, but wound up playing extensively on bad Cleveland and San Francisco teams.

I live about 2 miles north of Detroit city limits and half the people I know or have talked to in recent years, blamed Stafford. Their memories might be hazy on Stafford, but mine is clear. I remember a shit ton of fans blaming Stafford in public, on the radio, and all over social media.

There were easily thousands of fans trashing him, probably tens of thousands!

Imagine if Stanford didn’t have to piss his career away in Detroit.   What he could have done.  Goes to show how dysfunctional the Lions organization is at football.

It is times like these that I wish the NFL had relegation like soccer. The Lions are a hot horse piss organization and should be playing alongside the equivalent of non-league teams that consist of full time dentists and clown college teachers.

Congrats Matt for getting out of Detroit to play for an actual NFL team and making it to the big time.

One of our fearless users actually called Stafford “soft“ tonight during the game. Stafford took more tough hits with the Lions and even to get through the season than just about any quarterback you’ll ever know. The guy is a stud and a great guy. I will definitely be rooting for the Rams in two weeks.

So happy for Stafford!  He proved all the haters wrong although many won’t admit it.

I’m also feeling some disgust at the Ford family for wasting that talent.

Eminent Domain. They should be forced to sell the team for the greater good of the people.

Stafford is a monster & did a ton for Detroit in his time here. I will never understand how people are actively rooting against him, it's been a blast rooting him on these past couple weeks.

So, Stafford wasn’t the problem?  Go figure!

I wonder if we can have the Browns option?  Have the franchise move but leave the name.  We go a couple years without NFL and then new owners come in and we start all over.  I would bite your arm off for that.

But no to muppets. Sorry.  That’s just for Michigan IMHO.

No, no, no. Last I checked, this is a University of Michigan sports site, not a site to cheer Former Detroit NFL Players.

The Muppets are special.  Let's keep it that way, not cheapen them by throwing them around all over the place.

We have muppets.

They are called the Fords. They have special guests each season, they are called shitty coaches.

We are relegated to being the old guys in the balcony making jokes about how horrid the show is.

Change resistance - there's no such thing. Use this approach instead

I'm kind of late in my career. Can I get traded to another fan base and some poor schlub from, let's say the Chiefs, has to become a lions fan?

Maybe throw in a half eaten hot dog and a piss warm beer.
