Heavy Ball Movement to Michigan for 5* PF Isaiah Todd

Submitted by Champeen on October 16th, 2019 at 9:10 AM

Frankly i don't give a shit if their is a thread every 2 minutes in regards to this kid, because his commitment impact to Michigan tomorrow would be gigantic.

Late last night 2 more crystal balls came in to Michigan (on the heels of KU visit).  Last night Evan Daniels, director of basketball recruiting for 247 put his in for Michigan at 9:17 pm (was on Kansas forever, then cloudy for a bit).

Then at 10:52 pm Josh Henschke of the MichiganInsider put his in.

This morning at 6:30 am, Sam Webb put his in to Michigan.

Michigan now has 79% of the crystal balls. Kansas has 7% and that was put in OVER 2 years ago!

and for both of the examples cited above, the dynamic was different.  there was some national momentum toward michigan for those guys, though not like this one, but what really separates it is the visit by the KU bagman followed by a whole new set of balls going blue.  i can only imagine that the kid told billy bag man that he wasn't going to KU and that was then figured out by those in the know.   could've been a family member sharing that he'd said 'no' or that billy was displeased with the visit.  could be another recruit who got a call from billy bag man and figured that todd must be out for him to get the call.  could be a FB post or some other thing that tips it off.

All the PBONERs can leave their shit next door. Michigan Basketball is in another world compared to Football right now and for the last decade.

It seems pretty reasonable to see what the brand new to college HC can do before we come to any sort of conclusion about the state of the BB team.

You'd think after all the "Gattis is going to be so amazing he leaves in a season" posts, people would know to pump the brakes.

Do more say less.

Zero chatter from the MBB players in the offseason. They prove it on the court. And Michigan Basketball is undisputedly in a better spot right now than their neighbor. Final Four just two years ago, Sweet Sixteen & 30 wins last year for the second straight year for the first time ever.

Although I agree that it is tougher to get to a point of huge success in football (Playoff only has 4 teams), IMO I think last year's BB team had a more successful year than most if not all of Harbaugh's years (2016 as the closest comparison to me). The hoops team was considered a true national title contender all the way up until their loss to TT. I don't know if we can say the same thing about any of Harbaugh's teams if we are being honest about it.

bla bla blah.

No one saw Belien leaving.  We have no clue how Howard will do.  Its not at all unreasonable to be concerned how the future will be for the basketball program.

Hoping for the best

That'd be a great pick up.  Stoked about Howard as a coach and a recruiter.  He's young enough that he could be Michigan's Bo Schembechler of basketball, but with national championships.

(random thought--years ago I had an apartment mate that was 6'8".  I'm a foot shorter.  We used to hang out with another guy who was 6'6".  I felt like their child.  They used to say that it was really nice hanging out with other tall people because you could actually have a conversation at a bar or somewhere without having to bend down.   I wonder if having a 6'9" coach will yield taller teams.)

I don't think our players were too short. Not so much a question of being serious as being curious.  It would just be interesting to see a statistical analysis.  Is there any kind of Malcom Gladwell-ism at work.   Is there any correlation between coach and player height.  For instance Matt Painter is 6'6" and Purdue has had a couple of really tall centers the last couple of years.

Man, if Howard can produce a decent 1st season (maybe win a game or two in the tounament) I think he'll get this thing rolling real quick.

Yeah I agree. There's a lot of hype simmering. Feels like some big wins like @MSU or winning a BTT or maybe a Sweet 16 run could vault us into some serious hype going forward which will help recruiting a ton. I'm glad we've got Z, Teske, and others around for the transition so Juwan has a solid foundation to start on

This would be a massive pickup and could do the same thing as juwans committment did back in the day and trigger a couple of other top kids to verbal.

a new Fab Five!

very exciting days

With Juwan recruiting Chicago hard, I'm kind of curious why no interest has been sparked with Adam Miller? Hes a top talent and has been showing out lately.

If Howard can get these types of players it should make up for the loss of coaching skill with the loss of Beilein. That’s assuming Howard isn’t a great xs and os coach. So many teams have made final 4s and won national championships with an idiot as a head coach but a great recruiter. Let’s get Isiah Todd!

I don't think people believe Howard doesn't know his stuff.....but as well as Beilein given the time he spent coaching? He's got 20 years experience on JH...that's a meaningful amount of time spent thinking of nothing but coaching basketball.

Now, if JH can recruit better than Beilein, I'm sure his very high basketball acumen will produce similar results. Better players + slightly lower experience for HC might = elusive NC's.
